He promoted Mika heavily before Mika had a hit, Jenny Owens Young, he was one of the first on the Amy Winehouse bandwagon, and I'm sure there are more, but those three come to mind right away. Oh, Rihanna, he got really into Rihanna early on too.

Not a huge Perez fan, but he does have decent taste in music and he does help people who aren't getting much exposure get noticed.

Kanye's blog broke it the day before, though, and before that it was only a minor success on hip-hop forums. And before that, Munroe was just known as some unknown Canadian producer guy.

Perez doesn't know shiat about music, though, he just happens to be well-connected and people send him youtube videos all the time. Sometimes he posts them, and they automatically get blown the fark up.

So, I was listening to NPR today and they were talking about the 25th anniversary of Thriller. Thinking about it, Michael Jackson was the last really talented mega-star out there. He had musical talent, could dance, and could sing. Not to say that some singers out there now don't have authentically great voices, but he was the real deal with everything included. (Regardless of his personal life and legal troubles.)

Now a days, anyone can have a singing career with the right electronic equipment, mixers, and a decent personal trainer. Dancing is wiggling around in skimpy outfits with airbrushed tans or jumping around on stage.

It's sad because music today is crap (seriously everyone knows it's true), it made me defend and think fondly of the days of the pre-chomo Michael, AND I'm only 26 and shouldn't feel this farking old.

I'll agree with some of the others that he does find musical talent fairly well. I don't like him nor his desperate grabs at fame, but this is something he's proven to be good at.

For the record companies, this could really pay off. In terms of product promotion, Perez is the Oprah of the myspace/facebook generation. If he recommends something, it usually explodes. Excellent move on their part to partner with him and release music through him. Generation-Farkbag loves this guy and he's a massive gateway to getting at that audience.

He says he'll stay objective but I have my doubts on that. We'll have to see.
