Awesome. It was one of the few times I saw a concert where it was 80% new stuff, and I didn't mind a bit.

I didn't know Limbaugh did music.

Got my tickets to the showing in Concord and I may just be picking this up. Last time around was pure awesome.

I'll probably see them this time around. Although Maiden is coming in May. Reperforming the Somewhere in Time tour. Nothing but 80's Maiden. \m/

What about the voice of Geddy Lee?

Probably "does" music the same way he "does" a Big Mac and fries. Maybe he wears the condom, maybe not.

I would love to see them, but sadly I do not think it is meant to be.

He discovered testoterone therapy. All the songs will be sung an octave lower.

Did they return to form after Roll The Bones? I felt they kinda took too much of a left turn after that one.

S&A is very much the same as the last 2 studio albums (Vapor Trails, Test for Echo). If you don't like them, you won't like this either.

S&A in particular suffers from bad lyrics -- and it's been a long time since we last got that (1970's, perhaps). Peart has explored all of these themes in previous albums, to better effect. Some lyrics just don't make sense or contradict themselves -- unusual for Peart.

The playing and singing are top-notch, though, and the live show I saw on this tour was the best Rush show I've ever seen (out of 6 or 7, spanning 25+ years).

The S&A material is excellent live, no question.

The Glass Dragon 2008-02-26 07:59:31 AM
S&A is probably my favorite Rush album since... god, I don't know... Permanent Waves, maybe? It's just a really solid disk in my opinion. I'm into just about everything Rush does, but I admit S&A took me by surprise on the first listen. I didn't think I would like it - it was a more mellow approach than, say, Vapor Trails or even T4E. But after listening to it several more times, it grew on me in a big way. It's great.

The Main Monkey Business is their best instrumental since YYZ.

And yes, the songs are excellent live.

/seeing them in Atlanta on July 22nd
//haven't bought tix yet because the ones on Ticketmaster suck

Radiohead on May 11, Rush on July 19, Mark Knopfler on July 26. It's going to be a good summer.

jonathan_L 2008-02-26 09:54:21 AM
I'm hoping the setlist for this leg of the tour is lighter on the S&A material. I like S&A just fine (I think it's their best since Roll the Bones, fwiw), but the older material got the shaft in favor of the new stuff on the first leg. But this series mid-way through the set blew me away:

Subdivisions
Natural Science
Witch Hunt

Wow.

theFword 2008-02-26 10:00:01 AM
I want more older stuff played on this tour (75% at least), i saw them on the first leg and was bored out of my mind with their S&A songs.

Like anyone is going to get out of heir basement and leave their D and D game to go see this craptastic old band. Pert = overrated. The rest of the band and their discography is just slightly less overrated. I would rather listen to the sound of my head bashing into my desk for six hours then listen to a rush album.

Geddy gets routinely kicked in the nuts before every concert and before doing vocals in the studio.

I ask: what is the only good song on HYF? Cuz I like Mission a lot. But I like many others from HYF as well.

I think Mission was in their setlist for this tour just to shake things up a bit.

Another live album? How many does this make? I guess if your fanbase is a bunch of 30- and 40-somethings with lots of disposable income, may as well release as many live albums as you can.

Yes, I'm a 30-something fan, but no, I won't be buying this set.

If you include the R30 DVD as an "album", then this will be 7. They used to only put out a live album every 4 studio ones... I really do think it's overkill to have a live show every single tour.

Having said that, I'll probably still get it because I'm a Rush fanatic.

I'm a big fan of Force Ten. I don't like anything else on the album.

I'm not a Rush fan in general, though, so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.

I think they're doing this to meet their contractual obligations with Atlantic Records. I'm guessing they might go independent from here on (so they can make more live records and pocket more of that money themselves).

But honestly, Distant Early Warning brought down the house at Madison Square Garden last year, which was surprising to me, but AWESOME.

Fair enough. But I do like HYF, which I see as an extension of Power Windows, which was the soundtrack of my freshman year of HS. So I'm a bit biased. I think Mission is the best song on HYF followed closely by F10. So I was really pleased to hear it on tour this year.

My first ever canon reference on fark, what a proud day for me. You like me you really like me... or at least remember what I typed at some previous point. Either way it is still my ego trip for the day.

I was so freaking bored I clicked on the music tab and thought to myself, "I bet there's another Rush thread, if not Rush it will be Zappa or Zeppelin".

Well now that I'm here. I would rather have the entire U.S. Patriot Act tattooed onto my scrotum two-thousand-one-hundred-and-twelve times than listen to Rush.

Next time guys ...

Rush fans - if you haven't read Ghost Rider, I recommend it. It was a really interesting peek into Neil Peart's life.
