Late at night several times a week, Terrill powers up the 4-foot-tall, 300 pound device

Reminds me of my ex-wife.

Atlanta police officials said they haven't received any complaints about the robot. But police spokeswoman Lisa Keyes said Terrill would be committing an assault if he intentionally sprays water on someone when in control of the robot.

WTF? It's freakin' water! Can you sue the sky for raining?

Would like to speak to local vagrants.

"I tell them they are trespassing, it's private property, and they have to leave," he said. "They throw bottles and cans at it. That's when I shoot the water cannon. They just scatter like roaches."

Classic!

Less clean up if they can hobble off the property.

I built a "bimbot" strictly to smoke old meat.

Because they're totally safe and only make the target "uncomfortable".

:)

Much like car salesmen who use the word "honest" in their advertising anyone who has to tell you he is "not a kook" is probably mistaken.

Gotta love how the woman who runs the homeless shelter swears that the shelter does not attract crime, even though she knows the people are not "angels". Hooray for politics of doubletalk!

calschemin 2008-02-25 02:25:29 PM
The Task Force's director, Anita Beatty, said the area's crime can be traced to drug dealers who prey on the homeless, many of whom suffer from drug addiction.

"I'm not saying everybody who lives here is an angel," said Beatty. "But it's simply not true that this place attracts crime to the neighborhood."

Ummmmmmm.....WTF?

It's not like we're able to get Rhodes Scholars to run homeless shelters.

danlpoon 2008-02-25 02:28:53 PM
Homeless people are a scourge on a city. A city can spend millions renovating a city park and a single, fifty-cent bum can deter everyone from enjoying it.

whodigsben 2008-02-25 02:29:22 PM
I used to go to O'Terrill's all the time and when I saw (and submitted!) this article, I lMAO. He's a former GA Tech engineer, so I can totally see him doing it. More power to him, trying to keep the riff-raff away.

She's right, you know. The area doesn't attract crime. The crime was already there.

I would go to this bar just to see it in action...and to be shot at.

I live about five blocks from the Peachtree Pine shelter. It is truly a blight. Other shelters do a reasonable job of keeping their clients from turning the two-block radius around it into a panhandling gauntlet; why Ms. Beatty doesn't seem to care about this is beyond me.

The result is a blocks-long "no man's land" between Midtown and Downtown along Peachtree, Juniper and Piedmont that will never get developed, as no one wants to build or live next to such a shelter.

...often to a daycare center where it accosts what Terrill says are drug dealers, vagrants and others who shouldn't be there.

Wow - what the hell kind of daycare center is THAT?

Spraying someone with High pressure waterhose/water cannon = assault.

His bot is set to low pressure annoying but not dangerous. The cops don't like their "monopoly" treaded upon. It's also a subtle safety message, drug dealers and gangs will FARK your day up if you don't stop the best we (the cops) can do is clean up the mess after the gangs and drug dealers get through with you.

Other than that an awsome idea ;o)

nickerj1 2008-02-25 02:36:43 PM
O'Terrill's regulars, who cheer on the robot from the safety of the bar's porch, have coined a much less politically correct moniker: the bum-bot.

Bum is politically incorrect nowadays?

Oh world. What would I do without you and your political correctness?

i hate to be a kill joy, but this guy is asking for trouble.
1. i am not sure you are allowed to shoot people with water cannons, (lawyers would love to sue him)
2. it is a matter of time before they realize the old guy down the street is effing with them and they kill him.

/great idea. just need armored get away car and secret identity.

sombreradoraloca 2008-02-25 02:37:47 PM
Hahahaha, that's awesome. I'd love to see the water cannon in action.

And what are those drug dealers going to do, sue him for hosing them down? Sure, and then get to court and have their asses raked over the coals for dragging this up when they're the ones dealing drugs.

Nah, the bar itself is all right. It's pretty safe and the bums rarely bother you if they know you "belong" to Rufus. The food's good; I especially like the fish and chips.

I just don't have any reason to go there any more ever since they canceled karaoke.

The Guy is asking for trouble, Drug dealers and gangs aren't very forgiving of those that FARK up their business.

Or even worse, I could tape myself "singing" Happy Birthday to You. It scares children when I do this.
