It seems like just yesterday St Louis won this honor.

What were the other entries? It's probably better than tap water in Tijuana, Athens, Mogadishu, or Pripyat.

Software2 2008-02-24 07:13:37 PM
That's because it's laced with the highest concentration of crack.

Molavian 2008-02-24 07:14:10 PM
I'm sure it was "most flavorful", but I prefer my water without the nasties, thanks.

ragingchihuahua 2008-02-24 07:14:29 PM
I don't actually disagree with this. I live downtown and I drink the tap water.

Alunan 2008-02-24 07:15:29 PM
Los Angeles actually has some of the purest water in the world due to their city's obessive actions in locking up all the water rights in the states of California and Nevada. They are like a damn sponge.

Gyrfalcon [TotalFark] 2008-02-24 07:15:32 PM
It's certainly the easiest to slice.

obijuan1 2008-02-24 07:15:39 PM
shouldn't this be under the ironic tag considering that all the morons who live here in LA drink Fuji?

Danger Avoid Death 2008-02-24 07:15:55 PM
Hexavalent chromium is mighty tasty!

/I'll pass just the same.

I know. Doesn't it seem like there's a new "best tap water EVAR" story on the main page every couple of weeks or so?

writingstatic 2008-02-24 07:17:02 PM
what.

Smeggy Smurf 2008-02-24 07:17:11 PM
isn't LA the city where they still drink the most bottled water?

ricodued 2008-02-24 07:17:35 PM
I read that as "Los Angeles tap water Judge [is] tastiest in [the] world."

I was really excited for an amazing article but was then immediately and sorely disappointed.

ubertwit 2008-02-24 07:17:50 PM
in other words, the panelists were paid off.

washington ftw.

AiryAnne 2008-02-24 07:19:16 PM
I was in LA (Silverlake Area) once and was drinking the tap water. My friend freaked out and told me I shouldn't drink it and only drink the water from the cooler they had in the house. This was after 3 days of drinking it and my piss was nearly orange.

Don't know if it was really from the water, but it did clear up after I stopped drinking from the tap.

/couldn't taste any difference

Sorry, no. The LA Aqueduct goes through farmlands and oilfields whose flood control channel is ... the LA Aqueduct. All the runoff from those fields straight to your tap. Yummy.

And it came in second-place for the "Chewiest Waster" award.

Well duh. Movie star piss.

Hexavalent chromium adds just the right kick to accent lead and arsenic, I've found.

To quote one of my heroes: "Filtering Los Angeles water deprives it of many essential nutrients, not the least of which is Chow Mein."

Never mind the water, talk about the 'air'.

digitdean 2008-02-24 07:21:14 PM
There have been nights where I've woken up, gone to the kitchen, bypassed the filtered fridge water and filled up from the tap. I don't know, there is something about it. I don't think it's crack, though, because I'm able to go back to sleep afterwards. I think some of the ego leaks into the water supply. Delicious, delicious ego.

rabidarmadillo24 2008-02-24 07:21:30 PM
In other news, gang blood soon to become a popular water additive.

I live in LA. The water is horrible. I drink bottled (Not Fiji, but free no-name water I steal from work). With that said, I have never had tap water anywhere else, so, I have no frame of reference.

And I feel like I am always reading articles saying LA water is The Gross...maybe just the beaches.

You know what, I haven't tried tap in years. I am going to...right now.

//yup, like caca.

WolfzOfTheSea 2008-02-24 07:25:20 PM
Thats suprising as hell about Clearbrook's water, my kids live there and they say it tastes like shait. But then again they have alot of meth houses in the Clearbrook/Abbotsford area,so it must be the chemicals.

Akuinnen 2008-02-24 07:25:33 PM
I didn't think people drank tap water in LA. When I was a kid visiting relatives, it was something I was warned not to do.

Then again this contest was held in W. Virginia. MMMM.. coal mine run off.

Best sparkling-water honors went to Slavus Salvus Mineralwasser Medium of Emsdetten, Germany.

FTFTFA.

/must be a regional brand, never seen it anywhere

I'm a fan of Rhode Island ~ East Greenwich water, myself.

Sampling from the toilet bowl probably wasn't such a good idea.

The last time I was in Orange County I broke out in itchy skin (I hesitate to say "dermatitis" because I didn't see a doctor) after showering. Now this was fifteen years ago so it's certainly feasible that they have improved the water there but Bull Run water here in Portland is pretty damned good water and has been for a long time.

From the article:
The title of best municipal water was shared by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, which serves Los Angeles, and the town of Clearbrook, British Columbia.

#1.5! #1.5! #1.5!

This and this.

I went to college in So Cal, and I didn't like the tap water at all. Also, I grew up/live in the Seattle area, and our tap water is teh awesome.

/Worst tap water = Las Vegas

ragingchihuahua: I don't actually disagree with this. I live downtown and I drink the tap water.

1. MWD doesn't give you your water, the City of Los Angeles DWP does. MWD serves the suburban regiona and any city that does not have their own water utility service.

2. The water in Los Angeles may very well be the best in the world, but what comes out of your tap might be undrinkable crap due to the age and condition of your home or apartment's piping system. They only rate what comes out of the water plant.

It's because the water is ultra-hard down here.

did you make the mistake of using bar soap?

/I drink the tap water here in San Diego, but I think it's only because I was born here, and don't notice it.
//Boston water tastes sweet, probably from all the lead in their ancient piping systems.

Sulfus 2008-02-24 07:35:41 PM
Nothing like good, ol' Long Island tap water.

Mmmmmmmm... Breast cancer.

LouTheNightGuy 2008-02-24 07:36:04 PM
this is definatly bs. i can think of tons of places where the mountains lead directly to the water table and have the best tasting water. LA? seriously......no really, seriously? what a farking crock.

KrustAsian 2008-02-24 07:36:30 PM
ColdenHaufield: I live in LA. The water is horrible. I drink bottled (Not Fiji, but free no-name water I steal from work). With that said, I have never had tap water anywhere else, so, I have no frame of reference.

Here comes the science: Your tap water quality is only as good as your home or apartment's piping system. If you got old, nasty, rotting pipes, you're gonna have bad quality water, no matter how good the municipal water supply may be.

wax_on 2008-02-24 07:36:40 PM
I live in Sans Francisco and I've never felt the need to drink anything other than tap water. It tastes fine, comes directly from the sierra nevada snow melt.

A few years ago I went down to LA to visit a friend. We went to a restaurant and I asked for a glass of water. The waiter asked what kind and I said 'just tap'. He looked at me funny, but went and got a glass of water. When I drank it I almost spit it back into the glass. It was DISGUSTING. I quickly called him back to the table and ordered bottled water.

Makes me wonder who else was in the competition.

domenad: Hexavalent chromium adds just the right kick to accent lead and arsenic, I've found.

Don't forget to put a good solid rime of selenium chloride on the edge of the glass, yum.

DrMcNinja 2008-02-24 07:37:56 PM
Isn't this dependent on what kind of pipes are in the building dispensing said water?

I'd like to drink this tasty water, but am afraid of the stuff hanging out in my 50 year old pipes.

APE992 2008-02-24 07:38:14 PM
I've had Santa Barbara tap and it's horrible, even just about freezing the stuff tastes terrible.

/and I've consumed about a gallon of hot spring water for the fun of it

theoutlaw 2008-02-24 07:38:47 PM
Nicest water I've ever tasted was in Manchester, England.

/they do have a lot of rain. might be that.

//might not.

7473r4 2008-02-24 07:38:59 PM
ARE THEY F*KCING KIDDING?

That shiat is the worst in California, possibly US (except, perhaps some backwater in Mississippi with rusty pipes). It tastes slightly like chemical runoff sometimes, metallic aftertaste other times.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Hawaiian tap. It's just like the best bottled water.

Stormneedle [TotalFark] 2008-02-24 07:39:14 PM
I'll drink water from the tap, after adding something like lemonade mix to it. But straight? No.

I thought if it was pure, water didn't have a taste. Silly me.

Eckyhade 2008-02-24 07:40:25 PM
It's all those good agricultural chemicals sprayed into the California aqueduct by Bakersfield. (mmm...hints of ammonia with subtle afternotes of paraquat.)

drucee 2008-02-24 07:42:08 PM
Here in Chicago, we drink good old Lake Michigan... cleanest tap water in the country, as judged by the NRDC.

Best tasting, however, goes to Memphis. The only way Memphis water could be better is if it were actually beer.
