Well the race was getting pretty dull. Hel-lo President McCain.

What a colossal douchebag. F*ck.

GaryPDX: And Barack is screwed...buhahahahahahaha!

I wouldn't bank on it. Barack seems to have the ability to get the youth behind him, quite possibly enough to keep them away from Nader this time around.

How many times does this guy want to perot the presidency??

He's not superman...lol. Now we have the battle of the old hippies and new liberals quazi hippy socialists. Ya know, I would have never guessed this whole chain of events in the last two months. Reality truly is stranger than fiction and we have a whopping 9 months to go.

cheshirecatsmileyface 2008-02-24 09:39:09 AM
I don't see what the point is. Why do people run when they know they have no hope of winning? Just to be attention whores? Give it up Ralph.

vincentpriceisdead 2008-02-24 09:39:55 AM
He doesn't have nearly the grassroots support he did in 2000. Back then he got about 2 million votes, and in 04 about 400,000. I seriously doubt he'll be able to siphon enough away to make a difference, especially considering we just don't know what kind of support Obama's gonna have when he finally gets the nomination- it's a safe bet it will be way more solid than Gore 1.0 or Kerry's.

vincentpriceisdead 2008-02-24 09:40:41 AM
cheshirecatsmileyface: Just to be attention whores?

Yeah, Nader's ego has its own gravitational pull. It's quite pathetic.

clancifer: How many times does this guy want to perot the presidency??

He got .3% of the vote last time around. Let him have his say - it may be something that needs to be said, just not voted for.

Coolhaus [TotalFark] 2008-02-24 09:46:37 AM
Ah, Nader, trying desperately not to slip further into the margins of American politics. It would be comical if it weren't so pathetic and divisive.

vincentpriceisdead 2008-02-24 09:50:55 AM
Wait, he can't just "say" he's running. The Greens won't take him- does anyone think he'll get enough signatures to even get on the ballot anywhere?

/No

arkansas [TotalFark] 2008-02-24 09:54:01 AM
As a Republican, I would normally be thrilled by this turn of events. But of course this time it means I would end up with McCainiac as President.

Looks like I am still gonna hold my nose and vote Obama. At least if McCain squeezes into the Presidency sideways I won't have to take any blame for it.

Unshavenhelga 2008-02-24 09:54:29 AM
This shill won't hurt Obama. He'll hurt Clinton.

He's a non-entity, and his candidacy hurts the country.

ArbitraryConstant 2008-02-24 09:58:09 AM
GaryPDX: And Barack is screwed...buhahahahahahaha!

Nah. If Obama gets the Democratic nomination, the election won't be nearly as close as the last two.

His candidacy in no way hurts the country. He has every right to run, and people have every right to vote for him. I think people learned in 2000, where clearly Gore would have taken Florida had Nader not been on the ballot. Hey, them's the breaks. I think his supporters learned a valuable lesson in 2000 about how this works.

I'll probably write in Bugs Bunny out of spite.

You're right he has every right to run. I disagree, though, with his reasons. I find it amazing that the only time this guy wants to get involved is when there's a presidency up for grabs. If he wants to institute a change, why not become a senator? A congressman? Neither of these satisfies his ego. He knows he's a spoiler, nothing more. If he really wanted to change the world through the system, he'd get involved more than he does.

Of course, the Greens seem to understand this because they probably won't endorse him.

Unshavenhelga: I disagree, though, with his reasons.

Oh I agree he's just an attention whoring asshole, but it's still perfectly within the laws of the system for him to be. My point is that people realize it this time around, and he's not likely to have any potential for a spoiler. Especially since McCain is just not a very strong candidate.

He could be a spoiler between Clinton and McCain. But then, if he is, I won't care.

I hadn't really though about that chilling prospect, but you're right, if they pull a Kerry and nominate Clinton, they just may be able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again, and Nader could be a factor if it comes that close. If Obama gets the nod though, I forsee him blowing McCain out of the water with ease.

molineskytown [TotalFark] 2008-02-24 10:29:33 AM
If the race does in fact come down to Obama vs. McCain, for the first time in recent memory we'll have a race between TWO candidates that are attractive to independent voters. For that reason, it's very conceivable that Nader might be stealing votes from both McCain and Obama here. I don't think this will be any redux of 2000.

A Bill & Opus write in would be better. At least they announced they were running at one point (granted it was 20 years ago but still...).

Go HOME, Ralph.

adamgreeney 2008-02-24 10:52:45 AM
I really hate Ralph Nader.

He used to stand for a lot of good things, he raised good points and helped to change a lot in this country at one time.

sadly, that time was 30 years ago. He is now a joke. Nothing he says he wants to do makes any real sense or has any chance of happening even if he did win. If he really cared about the country at all, he would support and advise Obama (Clinton would never listen to him) instead of trying to tank his vote. Nader has to know he'll never win, so why bother?

If Clinton steals the democratic nomination, I'll probably vote for Ralph Nader.

I doubt I will vote for him, but I hope they let him talk. He has some points that deserve to be debated.

It is a democracy. Let the man run. If you don't like him being in the race, don't vote for him - problem solved.

Ralph Nader is a living joke.

Uh, no. Not at all. If Clinton were the nominee, I think she would be far more affected by Nader. Obama? Not at all. Obama has already captured Nader's base.

Get used to saying it now.. President McCain.

The asshole that elected George Bush just put McCain in office. Suck it America.

On Meet the Press, he said basically, why can only Repubs and Dems run, why can't the Presidential election support multiple parties running like they do in Europe.

I wonder how much "soft money" the RNC has already committed to the Nader camp. May as well burn what's left of Constitution now and save President McCain the trouble.
