(NW Florida Daily News) Florida Mother of the year to 3 year old daughter at Valentine's Day party: "If you don't stop doing what you were doing I'm going to throw you in the trash can. No, seriously, I'm going to throw you in the trash can."   (nwfdailynews.com) divider line 122

FTA: "After (Longwood principal Marcus) Chambers mentioned to (the woman) she shouldn't do that, (she) collapsed to the floor and sobbed."

Reads like the mother has way too much stress in her life. Sounds more like she needs real help than a legal ass-kicking.

Poor kid has to grow up with a biatch like this as her "mother". Sad.

I'm all for beating sense and discipline in to spoiled children. But that is excessive for a three year old girl. If it was a five year old boy who wouldn't stop screaming then I would say a slap or two would be justified as well. As long as it's not hard enough to leave a bruise, but loud enough to show the kid who's in charge.

However if the kid has a gameboy or a toy he really likes, I would break that in front of him before smacking him. I think smacking the kid should be a last resort solution.

BearToy [TotalFark] 2008-02-24 01:46:02 AM
See I totally thought the little girl was doing something else.

When I walked into the living room one day and found my 6 year old daughter watching TV with her hand down the front of her panties and her eyes sort of glossed over I instantly internally channeled my mother and was about to yell at the top of my lungs something about hellfire and damnation....and maybe throwing her in the trashcan. At the last minute my rational mind took control and the words "Honey why don't you wait and enjoy that when you're by yourself rather than in the living room, okay?" left my mouth without me really thinking about it. "Ok", she grinned and went back to watching cartoons with both hands free to re-create the scenes on the TV with her dolls. The subject never came up again.

Ground_Hog 2008-02-24 05:44:32 AM
The mother just needs a vacation. Some of these pick-up rules with kids, while understandable, are ridiculous. Twice my friend hasn't been allowed to pick up his daughter because he wasn't scheduled for the day. I understand protecting the kids, but there has to be some flexibility involved.

Lady, you have my respect-you are cool under fire. Not sure I would have had the control, or the good sense to say what you said. You're going to have a good relationship with this child when you need it-in about 10 years. That's not an insult-that's just as most teens are-pushing boundaries is their job.

That's WRONG! By: thumper410 - 11:26:09 pm on February 23, 2008. I'm glad that I wasn't there to see this happening. Oh man! This mother would have gotten her butt tore up for doing that to this poor child. That must had been frightening for a 3 year old to hear that from her very own mother. What a horrible mother! HRS to the rescue! Some people should be sterilized from the very start!
I guess 'Ms. Bubba' will have fun with this winch in the hell-hole. Serves her right for hurting that poor child.  wtf! By: always amazed! - 01:03:00 am on February 24, 2008. I agree with you thumper, she would of had a mud hole stomped in her.... well you know. There are a few things you don't abuse in my book and a child is one of them. There is nothing wrong with giving a child a good ole' attitude adjustment but what she did is out of line.

"

What's with all the butt-tearing and mudhole stomping talk in Florida?

Rule 1 of parenting: Never make threats you don't intend to carry out. Kids pick up on that really fast.

It's scary how well my kids can parody me. They know me better than I know myself.

Does this apply to threatening selling them to the gypsies as well?

My kids will get punished to the letter of every few threats they try to call me out on.

This way, they will be conditioned to think that calling bluffs can be good but daddy doesn't bluff as much as other people.

The_Pole_Of_Justice 2008-02-24 07:10:32 AM
Y'know, the headline made this sound like some kind of whiny overreacting. "Throwing them in the trash can," even when literally carried out, is not a big deal (presuming it's full of dry stuff, not things like coffee grounds and rancid tuna.) For little kids, it's just slightly more nasty then sending them to their room.

Then I read this:

The principal and a secretary then saw the woman drag the girl about 10 feet in the bookkeeper's office, then push her to the floor by her neck.

fark this woman. fark her with a Buick, while smacking her with a ball bat. I get as annoyed at little kids as anyone, but the day I get worked up enough to do this is the day I beg someone to put a bullet in my head.

Read to me like the mother (age 21) had a baby because she thought it would be wonderful and cute and oh what a surprise it makes messes and cries and functions in that oh-so-annoying fashion of requiring things on its own schedule.

Is it just me, or has the number of books on parenting, community courses, etc etc, diminished in the last decade or so? Maybe it's lack of demand, this generation is being brought up with the internet - you can learn anything by reading about it on the internet! Even how to be a good parent! (Ha!)

Not that I condone what this woman did, but until you've had a kid drive you to the point where you put your hand through the wall rather than let the anger loose at her try not to judge too harshly. I think some sort of family councelling is in order.

Oh, and according to his profile, Beartoy is a dude.

In second grade I had one of the old-battleaxe-ruler-slapping nuns for a teacher, and she dumped a kid head first into the garbage in the middle of class. She was still teaching kids the next year, so, hooray for 1987 right?

/she also stuck a kid under her desk as punishment. While she was sitting at it.
//All that ever happened to me was getting ruler slapped for drawing sunglasses and a smile on the sun. Easter Bunny with a cigarette and a gun in the same picture was totally not a problem though.

My son is 4. Putting him in the corner always works, since he's an only child.

He's a silly kid, so he talks a bunch of weird stuff. Him talking about putting anyone, even one of his plastic babies, or himself, in the trash, results in us being totally mortified and giving him a long talking to.

Reads to me like a mother who is teaching her daughter to be a coont, then punishing her for it.

My sister's got 3 kids, 3 jobs and no husband. She doesn't do that. It's avoidable.

It's not just you. I'm a new mom, and belong to an online forum for moms where I encounter the most asinine questions from some ladies. Online forums are great for social networking, but some people seem to use the forum in place of seeing their pediatrician or researching the answers from a reliable source (such as the AAP). Drives me nuts! Why put your child's well-being in the hands of some stranger on the internet??
