No, no you can't. Especially if you RTFA.

There's an old saying about DUIs. There's the Caught, and there's the Uncaught.

Enough of us have driven when we shouldn't have. As for this lady, looks like she needs some help with Demon Alcohol herself. Hopefully, this arrest may make her realize she needs that help.

/Been there, done that.
//Busted for DUI in 2000.

It's a setup. She was nowhere near that party at Jose Canseco's house.

Might be a trend. Here in Pensacola, the big news is the Escambia County School Superintendent, Jim Paul, being arrested for DUI during a conference over near the dangly part of Florida. At 3 AM. He claims to have had two glasses of wine at 8 PM.

Is not our educators learning?

Jim Paul busted

FTA: "Out of character for her," NOT BLOODY LIKELY. It goes something like this: if you're caught driving drunk (and I don't mean that little .11 BS, but this lady was genuinely drunk,) it's incredibly unlikely that it's the first time it's happened. It's just the first time you get caught. The vast majority of people who operate a vehicle over .08 never get busted.

Right now, there are a whole bunch of drivers on the road who are over the limit. Only a tiny fraction of them will get busted.

A lot of these court ordered are shams. I cannot speak for this one. One guy I know said his counselor tried to sell him coke.

Holy shiat! .336 is quite impressive. I've seen higher, but that still gets 4 out of 5 stars.

You have to be pretty nutty to achieve that level of drunkeness in the first place, and then to try to drive home is just the cherry on top of the cake of insanity.

"I feel bad for Peggy because this is very out of character for her," said State Attorney Bruce Colton, the president of CORE's board of directors. "It's bad for her and it's bad for the public perception of the program."

Very out of character? Fark you. At a level of .336 you have to be a pretty hardcore driver, a casual driver would not even know what a car is, let alone drive one

It is kind of scary. I mean what's next? The Dept. of Homeland Security to be headed by some jihadist nut case named Barack Hussein Obamma?

More info in the .pdf file 'Read the arrest report for Margot "Peggy" Cioffi' under her pic.

Dui, rear end crash, air bag deployed, other driver arrives to see if she's ok,
she pushes bag out of the way and drives off, other car follows her as she drives around her neighborhood several times before finding her garage and pulling in,
cops arrive, find her still inside her car, she claims the reason she left the "scene" is because the others were White Trash,
many attempts and finally blows .338,
screaming at the cops and pulling away from cops, refusing cuffs, refusing to get in cop car. On and on it goes like this.

I wonder why this lady was treated as every citizen should be. Anyone else and we'd be seeing a beat down video and/or a tasering.

.338 most folks are not moving, hard core drinker methinks.

She must have missed one of her steps

Texmandie 2008-02-24 07:46:00 AM
I weigh about 140 (dammit), and a bottle of wine consumed within two hours would put me around 0.15-0.20, depending on alcohol content. I usually drink a small (4 oz) glass with dinner, except during Lent (gotta hit the reset button occasionally).

Last time I drank a whole bottle of wine in one sitting, I barely sussed out how to unlock the door and pretty much passed out in bed (alone, fortunately). And was in agony the next morning. I couldn't have operated a car even if I'd thought it was a remotely good idea.

I'll hazard a guess that she weighs at least what I do, so she must have had the equivalent of two bottles of wine (at least), then stumbled over to her car.

Before 5:30pm.

She's a pro.

Busted with .336, legal limit is .08, carry the one...move the decimal...

Dammit, I was told there'd be no math!

Two things to consider here:

1) Many people who are working for any concern against addiction have battled addiction themselves. Hence it's ridiculous for anyone to say that this is "out of character" for the person. Luckily those who have been treated for addiction know better than those who haven't, and those who haven't need to reevaluate.

2) Stereotypes suck. Women, even those who are hot, battle addiction too. If I reproduce, I'm going to reprimand my kids for following stereotypes.

/got a DUI once, and battle addiction. I'm a thoroughly educated female.

bigKW 2008-02-24 08:34:42 AM
I read one of the comments from the paper, someone wrote, "Her autopsy photo looks terrible, they could have done her makeup before posting the photo." I laughed my friggin' ass off!!!!

NOVanHelsing [TotalFark] 2008-02-24 08:38:55 AM
DulceEtDecorumEst: Personally don't think the legal limit should be .08. It should be .03 at most, or more preferably ZERO.

Hide the booze. The Fark MADD representative has arrived.

OrelupM 2008-02-24 08:43:29 AM
DulceEtDecorumEst: It is possible that someone in the oncoming lane swerves, and the 1/10th of a second reaction time difference makes the difference between you getting home and you spending decades in a wheelchair.

Sadly it's not the dumb ass who can't accept that he "isn't fine" that usually gets hurt, it's the people who are able to follow the rules. I lose alot of respect for people when I find out they drink and drive (whether they got busted or not). Sure, they probably will never kill anyone, but essentially they make the decision that "them having a little fun, and then sleeping in their own bed is more important than the well being of every random person they drive past"

/has a drinking problem
//never drank and drove (but came close one time)
///would never touch booze again if he had

"I feel bad for Peggy because this is very out of character for her," said State Attorney Bruce Colton

Since she's got friends like bruce, she'll get away with it. At most they'll have 'er plea down to an unsafe operating or one of them special offenses they keep on the books just for politicians and their friends.

When I went to "school" for my DWI, the instructor was pretty open about his addiction. He claimed he was a functioning alcoholic. He said he never got polluted all at once, but he just drank steady throughout the day while he was working or whatever.

Yeah, a shortcut. I live with a person who won't go out to dinner anymore because when he did, he got caught for DWI. All I have to say is, if you're drunk, find a ride home. Period.

AtomPeepers 2008-02-24 09:40:13 AM
She seems to have gotten a really low bond for that BAL. I thought if you got over .20 in Florida, you were an extreme DUI, and everything came down on you a lot harder.

/She should know the penalties quite well.
