Confiscating those farms worked out like Atlas Shrugged...

Zimbabwe is suffering an economic crisis, with annual inflation of 100,000%, and unemployment at 80%. There are also severe food and fuel shortages.

Also considering that they've already tabulated the "votes."

Mugabe is like Castro, but without the warmth.

This.

Compared to Mugabe, Castro was a kindly grandfather who read books to Sunday-school classes and donated to charities.

What pisses me off is that the British had troops in place and could have stopped him when he first started taking the farms and destroying things. Instead they evacuated their own people and left the place to fall into ruin.

If they had it would have been deeply unpopular, who knows what might have happened. You gotta remember the circumstances at the time. It would have been seen as an attack by the colonialist oppressors against the hero of the independence struggle. They did the only thing they could do.

Dear Africa. You fought to get rid of colonial empires. You did. You then screwed it all up. You made your own mess, deal with it yourselves.

Castro broke a few eggs to make an omlette. Mugabe shot the chicken, ate two bites, threw out the rest.

Why? They're the ones getting blamed for many of the messes in Africa in the first place. Zimbabwe was one of the richest and most prosperous countries in Africa when it was under British rule.

Though I find it funny that Bush doesn't see the need to liberate the poor ol' Zimbabweans from their evil democracy. I guess he only spreads freedom for countries north of the equator

Doubt it. We all know Lowtax has no clue how to run an economy.

They gained independence in the 1980's. This country is still very young. After all, America did not just spring up and go after our revolution from the British.

But to ignore and abandon them, could leave to undesirable consequences for America as a whole.

What I find funny is that Bush is so passive about why he's not doing anything about Zimbabwe. We've got several worldwide examples (good and bad and as-yet-undetermined) of what happens when Uncle Sam gets involved - we should point out to the rest of the allegedly civilized world what happens when we're NOT involved, and if they're so much more sophisticated and intelligent maybe they'd like a crack at fixing the situation themselves.

As if they'd ever do anything more than hold a conference.

With five-star catering, naturally.

Anything that paints the U.S. in a good light is by necessity a lie. Without fail. Space program? We could be feeding trillions with the money we spend on that!! Foreign aid? We're just bribing people to stay quiet and hide behind supposed good intentions.

It gets tiring.

I knew a kid in high school from Zimbabwe, coincidentally we called him "Zimbabwe". Anyways, he said every "election" they would see the ballot boxes floating in the water outside polling places hehe.
