I'm not a fan of their records, but I saw them live twice in the 80's and they put on a great show.
For some reason their tunes are better live.

I wouldn't count on a reunion happening. Dave is tortured by Ray and becomes a stress case when they work together. It isn't what he needs following a stroke and I can't see him letting it happen.

On the other hand, seeing as how Dave has recently had a stroke and Ray survived a shooting, they shouldn't wait too long if they are going to go for it. They may not make it.

sad, but I thought subby was trying to tell us he was dead. So good news/bad news?

I bet a live version of My Sharona would be killer.

I'm so tired, tired of waiting, tired of waiting for them to go on tour again.

there's a kink in their plans

FTFA: "It depends on if Dave and I get together," [Ray] said, acknowledging that the younger Davies is still recovering from a stroke he suffered in 2004. "He's getting well enough to shout at me. That's a good sign."

Good sign for Dave... bad sign for the rigors of a full-scale reunion tour.

SRSLY... they could go for it with just a few exclusive dates-- a couple Stateside, a couple in the UK.

*facepalm*

the kinks made some of the most important music of the sixties. ray davies is one of the world's best pop songwriters. apart from the "you really got me" stuff, they made incredibly influential baroque pop in the mid-to-late sixties. check out "Arthur," "Face to Face" and "The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society."

They were my first concert. At Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque on my 16th birthday, 25 years ago in May. Scandal opened. It was great.

Hi Cheddar. I was at that show. I went to Eldorado High. How bout you? Also saw Rush, Van Halen (three times) Kiss, Styx/Cars, etc at Tingley. There were more.

Kinks are great, btw. If I heard they were doing a few shows and one was near me, you can bet I'd be there.

Geez, I guess you losers need to stick to Creed or Britney, you apparently wouldn't know real rock music if it hit you in the head.

The Kinks are one of the most significant, yet always underrated rock bands ever, with a huge catalog of diverse material. A greatest hits doing it for the money tour would be great, but they've never done things that way.

Hopefully, Ray & Dave will record new music and follow with a tour.

You really can't go wrong with anything the Kinks did from 1964 to 1972, which is like 10 albums because they did at least one a year. My personal favorite would be 'Something Else By The Kinks' though, if you made me pick. But really, discovering their catalog is like finding a treasure trove of awesome rock music.

'Sunny Afternoon' is one of the best ways to drink beers on a sunny afternoon. Go figure.

'Art Lover,' however, should not be re-enacted. :)

Ray Davies, The Storyteller, 1998, great album

The "storyteller" concept was ideal for aging singer/songwriters, letting them run through their back catalog and illuminate the origins of their best-known songs with stories and anecdotes. Ray Davies essentially invented the concept on his promotional tour for his semi-fictional memoir X-Ray, and his concerts were so successful, they eventually provided the basis for the VH1 series Storyteller. It also led to Storyteller, his first solo album since the soundtrack to Return to Waterloo. Like that album, it has a sound very similar to the Kinks -- which shouldn't be surprising, since Davies was the musical force behind the band -- but it's considerably more engaging than Return to Waterloo. Much of the record is devoted to Kinks' classics, all of which are fleshed out by Davies' clever, revealing stories, and many of which are taken from X-Ray. There are also a number of fine new or previously unreleased songs, like "Storyteller," "Art School Babe," "Back in the Front Room," "It's Alright," "The Ballad of Julie Finkle," and "London Song," which is the only song on the collection recorded live in the studio, not in concert. Certainly, the narrative element of Storyteller makes it of interest primarily to hardcore Kinks fans, but by 1998, the only type of Kinks fan that existed was hardcore, and they'll find the album filled with delights, both expected and unexpected. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Last good Kinks album was Low Budget.
In the book KINK, Dave details why he hates Ray's guts.
Great band live, saw em 3 times, best show was in '72 , Hollywood Palladium, with Rory Gallagher opening

The four original members are all still alive. Clock is ticking though, they need to hurry the hell up.

Peter Quaife also has End-Stage Renal Disease, like my sister. (She got it from Nephrodic Syndrome at 18 months from a very aggressive flu bug.)

He has a good amount of funny stuff in his "Lighter Side of Dialysis" books:

(Big images, so they're linked. If you know someone on Dialysis, you'll laugh... Though it's usually hard to...)

I'm sure you know that "My Sharona" was a hit for The Knack, and not The Kinks, and you are simply farking with us for sport.

Bloody good show old boy!
