Keep leading by example Hillary. It's "actions not words" right?

According to a story on MSNBC today, she is spending a million dollars a day. She spent 25 million dollars trying to win on of the recent races yet came in third. She has spent 100 million dollars so far.

Yeah, like we need another President who will spend tax dollars like a drunken sailor.

Yeah, the $12,000 donut bill or whatever it was probably doesn't look too good to people who thought they were helping out after the $5M loan.

I think it was 1,200 on donuts. At least that's what they said on MSNBC earlier today.

Now, I am not an Obama freak or a Ron Paul freak (or any politician for that matter), but I can't help but wonder...

How can anyone be seriously contemplating voting for Hillary?

Of course, I am aware that people voted for Bush, twice, and I still don't understand that...

The capacity for stupidity in humans astounds me.

Don't know what the donut total was, but there were $95,000 in Iowa sandwiches. Obama's people didn't bring a damn thing to my (KS) caucus, and we still supported him 8 to 1.

/ Clinton's Iowa supporters, for the most part, did not need a sammich.

CarolynLibrarian 2008-02-22 10:28:20 PM
From Five Minute Standup's article:

Local NBC affliate, channel 6, out of Davenport, Iowa, is airing a report and a video of hotel rooms trashed by workers of the Clinton campaign. The video highlighted piles of trash, holes in the walls and soiled and tore carpeting. The elderly, avuncular, hotel manager is quoted on the video as saying if this is the way a campaign is managed how well would the White House be managed.

The Clinton campaign has offered to pay 75% of the damages and is refusing to talk with local media about the damages. Look for this video to be picked up by national television and for this news to be gleefully broadcast by right-wing hate radio. It will predictably be linked to the baseless and debunked charges of Bill Clinton's White House staffers trashing their offices before the current dimwit took office.

In light of the foodfight that has broken out between our top two candidates, news like this is not helpful to the Democratic ticket in November. I would urge the Clinton campaign to quickly put this to rest. They will not be the only Democrats to suffer from this video clip.

I can't say as I'm surprised at the mentality - wasn't it Bill's staffers who pried all the "W" keys off their keyboards in preparation for Bush's inaugural? I mean, yes - that hardly counts as "trashing their offices," but I was in DC at the time and I do remember the keyboard thing. An acquaintance actually had one he claimed to have pried from his.

Interestingly, though, I've heard nothing of this year's festivities.

Considering that Cheney will probably burn the National Archives on the way out, a few W keys doesn't seem so bad in retrospect.

Observers agree that the campaign made two major errors: spending too much at the top and not enough on the ground

Just the way Bill likes it.

Hillary Clinton is no Bill Clinton.

Bill Clinton was one of, if not the greatest politician of his generation. And Barry Obama may be the greatest of his.

More interestingly, Giuliani. Raised at least $50 mil. Raised more than any other Republican in 2007. Didn't campaign in Iowa or New Hampshire. Did he really spend that much in Florida? "The Producers"?

The primary spending has been ridiculous. But probably for the positive. If there had been very little spending, the election would have been Clinton v Giuliani (on name-recognition alone), and Rudy would have won. This would not have been my preference.

Holy fudge...monthly salaries...

Mrs Clinton's strategists and media advisers have come in for particular criticism. The firm of Mark Penn, her pollster and image guru, was paid £1.9 million in January and has received a total of £5 million for consulting, direct mail and other services.

Howard Wolfson, Mrs Clinton's communications director, was paid £135,000 last month and has raked in £390,000 so far. Mandy Grunwald, an aide since Bill Clinton's presidency, has collected £1.2 million in fees and expenses.

Mr Wolfson said: "Fees and payments are in line with industry standards. Spending priorities have been consistent with overall strategic goals."

It's called NAFTA.

Tens of thousands of jobs that were once located in America are now located in Mexico.

It's the same reason ExxonMobile and Halliburton love George Walker Bush.

Goodfella: Bill Clinton was one of, if not the greatest politician of his generation.

Hard to make that call in retrospect. He won with 43% and 49% of the vote (never got 50% of voters to put a box next to his name). Probably would have beaten Dole without Perot, but probably wouldn't have beaten Bush I without big-ears. He (and Hillary) also bears quite a bit of responsibility for the overwhelming loss of both houses of Congress in 1994.

From this week's "The Economist":

Her ties to the state and its Hispanic community date to 1972, when she and her then boyfirend Bill Clinton spent the summer working on George McGovern's presidential campaign in San Antonio. Mrs. Clinton registered and organized Latino voters, and they have not forgotten.

Cubicle Jockey: From this week's "The Economist":

Eeeeeeuuuuuwww! The Economist says! The Economist says! I read The Economist! Aren't I cool? Aren't you impressed with me?

What do you read? Time? Newsweek? Those are for people who can't handle a real news magazine like the one I read. That's because you're not as smart or sophisticated as me.

On weekends, I like to sit out on my porch in my wicker chair with my bifocals and my subscription copy of The Economist. Then, when I go to a professor's wine-and-cheese party later that night, I can casually mention all the fancy stuff I read about NASA and Venezuela and Gen. Pervez Musharraf in my fancy magazine and impress everybody.

Question: Do you think I'm smarter than everyone else because I read The Economist, or do I read The Economist because I'm smarter than everyone else? Now, there's a conundrum! I should mail that one in to The Economist and see what they think!

Oh, no! My brain just got larger! Help! I need more knowledge to fill up the new brains! Get me the new issue of The Economist at once! I can't live if I'm even remotely unaware of anything that is happening in the universe! I must have my weekly issue of The Economist, or I risk de-evolving into the sort of mouth-breathing rabble by which I am surrounded daily!

I say, old chap, here comes Lord Smartingford of Braintonshire! Shall we dine upon a nice cup of tea, then? We can discuss the economy, and the global situ-AYYY-tion, and ever so many other matters! I am so very versed in such matters, reading as do I The Economist, just as soon as the postman delivers it by the estate, don't you know. I find that only the right cracking coverage of The E-CON-omist keeps me jolly-well informed and all that, wouldn't you agree? Mmm, yes, I did think you would!

farkin' prick.

They should have retooled the thank you letters for campaign contributors;

"Dear Citizen,

Thanks to your 25 dollar donation, Hillary Clinton was able to pig out on some deli food."

Or ... "your donation went to help pay for this consultant who dresses like a tool and has no idea how to stop the ObamaTrain."

Oh but I forgot, Hillary's relying on loads of PAC money! Her corporate overlords must be displeased with where their investment is going.

Agreed. It would be an error, as is becoming more evident now, to attribute guile to the Clintons.

Easy. As a moderate Democrat I crossed over because Bush was, both times, the better candidate. I would have preferred Bradley or Gephardt.

FTA: Cash shortages forced Mrs Clinton to lend her campaign £2.5 million earlier this month, while her campaign manager stepped down after failing to keep a close enough eye on spending.

This stuck out for two reasons. First, in the states we were told that he manager left to spend time with her family. Second, it is a sad reminder that the dollar is half the value of a British Pound.

This is the consistent criticism I've heard from the pros - she spent way too much on strategists and not nearly enough on organizers.
