Well, that's one way to scare off the rest of the voting public.

Wow, talk about a cock-stomp for the Democrats.

bcbebop [TotalFark] 2008-02-22 05:31:04 PM
I think McCain would be too concerned about alienating the conservative voter-base even more than he already has to try this but God would I love to see a McCain/Rice vs. Obama/Edwards race. That would be one for the ages.

TheConvincingSavant 2008-02-22 05:33:42 PM
Yeah the VP bench for the right is pretty thin this year.

JPJ007 [TotalFark] 2008-02-22 05:36:50 PM
There are huge positives for McCain there, but I think she's too closely tied to the Bush administration. Methinks McCain would do well to distance himself from that, as he has been doing.

That's what I was thinking.

What huge positives?

Most people don't like her and there is no way Rice is taking black votes away from Obama and there is no way women are not going to vote a majority democrat.

It would be a pretty stupid VP choice. This is the kind of logic that sent Alan Keyes to face Obama for his senate seat.

Me too. Three years ago she was a great choice.

big_pth [TotalFark] 2008-02-22 06:11:29 PM
Why would Rice take votes from Obama? No one has called her "black" in years.

/She's also probably doinkin Dubya on the side
//just kidding...
///am I?

Is this the same McCain that won't come out and say that the Iraq war was a mistake? the same one that says Bushes tax cuts for the rich should be made permanent? The same one that says we should allow the CIA to treat prisoners anyway they want? How is he distancing himself from bush? Sounds to me like he is exactly like him.

curmudge 2008-02-22 06:30:30 PM
Well that would give me one more reason to not vote for Senator McCain.

McCain & Rice?

No thanks, had a big lunch.

JC Watts would be a much better choice, if he agreed to run.

CravenMorehead 2008-02-22 07:25:06 PM
Rice is a handy combination of Hillary and Obama rolled into one nice incompetent package.

Good luck with that John.

She may be black and female, but doesn't the VP have to be human?

joeycolby 2008-02-22 07:36:08 PM
As long as we're playing the "what if?" game, what about McCain/Powell? Then it's a choice between white/black and black/white. They could totally recreate the "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" episode of Star Trek.

Snarfangel [TotalFark] 2008-02-22 08:03:44 PM
I still think she should have been at the top of the ticket, running with Mitt. "Rice/A Romney" would have been a treat.

McCain wrote a memo asking her to be VP but she's forgotten what the briefing said.

Yeah, they can't be considered black anymore when they don't think and act the way you think black people should. Right?

It was your racist cartoon to go along with the ignorant quote. Why don't you explain it for us?

No, no, no... you're the progressive expert in race & representation in contemporary US. Explain to us how important collaboration assimilation it is for the creation of a liberal, color-blind public sphere.

There goes your appeal to independents.

(no, she will not "split the black vote", which is an obvious goal of this hypothetical move)

Fart_Machine 2008-02-22 10:30:35 PM
Old and Busted: GOP pundits accuses Obama of being popular for "white guilt" and pandering to the black vote.

New and spiffy: GOP pundit want Rice to be McCain's running mate because she's a black woman.

Edsel 2008-02-22 10:31:35 PM
She may draw a few black voters, but the overwhelming effect will be that independents and moderates will flock away because they will see this as confirmation that McCain is tied to Bush's disastrous policies.

Why doesn't he name Rumsfeld or Cheney his VP and get it over with?

muck4doo [TotalFark] 2008-02-22 10:37:01 PM
lolmao666: That failure? Rice? Who failed everything in her life? Aside from that, she won't be VP, McCain wants a war against Iran and the only ones in the Bush administration stopping a war with Iran is Rice, Gates and the army generals.

She definitely is not a good choice. Too many ties to Bush's failed presidency.

But are you serious about her having failed everything in her life? I'm sure you have a pretty good resume of your lifes accomplishments to compare to hers, right?

pvd021 2008-02-22 10:37:03 PM
Dr. Rice. Never have I ever seen such an intelligent bright black woman work under a man that just simply oozes stupidity and flutters more stupidity out of his mouth than he does carbon dioxide. Being black you figure she would have encouraged him to do something for Katrina, nudge him a little to show up to the gathering of the NAACP, a presidential tradition that has gone on since I can't even remember when. You figure a person of her intelligence and her background would be a champion if not encourage our leader/champion to do what is right or what others would consider common sense. Instead she puts aside all her intelligence and instead invest her energy into defending stupidity. Time and time again. What excess she has in intelligence, she definitely lacks in backbone.

//Colin Powell would be a better fit. Military background and all.

Echoic 2008-02-22 10:37:14 PM
How would Rice take black votes from Obama at all? Blacks overwhelmingly vote Democrat regardless who the nominee is, and now they're still voting for a black pres against a black VP.

Maybe it is time for a lesbian VP.

Rodeodoc 2008-02-22 10:47:28 PM
muck4doo: Yeah, they can't be considered black anymore when they don't think and act the way you think black people should. Right?

Yeah, she plays classical piano so she can't really be black. Blacks rap and play jazz. And Hip Hop. Ain't no black classical sistahs nowhere. Oh, and she doesn't speak funky jive, either. No, she's definitely white.

If mccain doesnt pick a conservative VP he's done for and obama wins in a landslide.

Stupid Floppy Clownshoes 2008-02-22 10:52:54 PM
McCain will pick Santorum.

/just hoping someone will post that crying kid of his
//or McCain's hot daughter

Ground_Hog 2008-02-22 10:53:30 PM
This has been discussed, arbitrated and ejected. Right now McCain could have a decent chunk on Independents and Demos, especially if Hillary gets the omNom. If he was stupid enough to let the party push her on him he'll lose in a landslide. I'd be willing to put my money on Romney with McCain dying two years in. Any takers?

Highroller48 [TotalFark] 2008-02-22 10:54:16 PM
014789: If mccain doesnt pick a conservative VP take a massive and immediate swing to the center, disavow the Bush Doctrine on Iraq completely, and swear off military interventionism and unilateralism for good, he's done for and obama wins in a landslide.

FTFY.

Mnemia 2008-02-22 11:00:06 PM
Yes, because McCain will really want to be associated with the vortex of FAIL that is the Bush Administration. Condi is one of the chief architects of the Bush failure.

soy_bomb 2008-02-22 11:01:17 PM
Dude, I would register Democrat so I could vote for this ticket, twice!

Zalan [TotalFark] 2008-02-22 11:03:56 PM
I thought that she is a lesbian. If so, that would not go over very well with the bible thumping side of the republican party.
