Sounds sorta like Perry, looks like a guy from American Idol.

Always been a big Journey fan, though. Too bad those guys can't get it together. Actally, too bad Perry is such a dick.

He does look like an Idol contestant. He sounds just like Steve Perry to me. Like he's channeling the other singer from the time when Steve Perry could do that music in the original key.

Pineda looks 20, but he's actually 40 and was kind of a star in Asia -- won some sort of Idol-like talent show years ago and fronted a band before The Zoo that had some hits.

Yeah, that really sucks. He's got such an amazing voice.

I guess this Pineda guy's pretty good. I mean, not as good as I am, but he'll do.

I saw them with Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie's old singer), and he was better than this guy.

I'd rather see Mike Baird playing drums instead.

As a guy who saw their first performance with Jeff Scott Soto, I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

/they also had the drummer sing some
//hope this guy's good, wouldn't mind seeing them again
//def leppard still rocked 100x harder

I interviewed Jeff Scott Soto and I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Actually, this is the truth. I interviewed him in 1986...nice guy. It was for Rock Scene magazine. I also interviewed Yngvwie. Tall guy, chipmunk cheeks, but talented beyond belief.

That's creepy. Did they really have to find a clone voice? Couldn't they just find someone with his own sound and a range capable of handling the vocals? Wow. It's just like that Marky-Mark "Superstar" movie.

It's not like they could suck any worse.

The dude sings pretty damn good. It should hit me as odd that he is Asian, but I notice that I did think he was a chick at first...until he sang. Pretty damn good voice.

Btw awfulperson No, you cannot do that. They can only be good songs when sung like Perry. You fail.

How cool would that be? Probably one of his favorite bands growing up, now he's the lead singer. Rock Star, indeed.

I'm getting a kick out of watching these clips! It's great that he sounds like Steve. Asian is a cool twist, too. But man he is struggling to get Steve's register - and the high, high notes aren't even on here. And if this is the first show with this guy, then that's not great. Part of the joy of watching old clips of Journey live was to hear Steve hit ridiculous notes during the bridges and codas. Steve never sang it live, but his vocal on 'Lay It Down' is insane. I hope this guy just had an "off" night.

If it wasn't for Neal's Schon's 'bigger than the universe' ego, Steve Perry would probably still be in the band.

Augeri was in a tough spot - filling the shoes he did - and did a great job. JSS was a great new slice of energy for the band, and they let him go by letter from management in the mail. Real professional Neal!

Arnel - well, good luck with the Engrish verison of Journey. Karaoke started in the orient - didn't it?

Maybe I'm out of the gossip loop on Journey, but I heard the main issue with Perry was regarding some serious health problems.

From what I have heard and read, for all of his talent Steve Perry was always an asshole that's hard to work with. Journey just lived with it while the money was pouring in.

At one point in the 90's, the band waited two years on Perry to take care of a medical problem just so they could tour together. Then Perry said no.

They would take him back in a second now because they know they could sell out arenas everywhere, but Perry won't do it.

You know who sounds like Steve Perry?

/Seriously, even the most jaded heavy metal fan knows it and will never say anything.
//But it's true.
