Eurovision music is generally awful, but not really any worse than a lot of the US pop music.

It was pretty funny when Lordi won though...

/Opeth next?

Um, that is pretty much every Eurovision, isn't it? I mean, it's more or less a talent quest, so isn't that sort of the point?

What happened to Bill Bailey? Wasn't supposedly doing a song for Eurovision?

Yeah, that's what I came in here to say. It would have been awesome, but alas, it appears not to be :(

Eurovision is a show of the blandest saccharine pop that ever lived. Almost each song is selected by committee, that to guess which song would liked by the most people. And of course, when you try to please everyone, you please no one.

That's why Lordi was such a breath of fresh air. They dared to be offensive, different, something else than all the other crap. Frankly, they were not that good, but compared to the other one ? That's why they won with such a margin in 2006.

Anyway, the last time I watched the Euorovison contest was in 1996 in the pub of the Leeds Metropolitan University Campus. Gathered there were all the ERASMUS student (ERASMUS is an exchange program at the European level), and almost all the nations in the contest had one or more people in the pub. The night was spent drinking and riciduling the most preposterous performance. The lone Greek guy was particularly ashamed, that night.

If Kosovo says they're an independent state, then where is their entry?

Granted I like Lordi, but the coolest part of the whole video was hearing the announcer try to say "Hard Rock hallelujah" in a foreign accent.

Ooh, is Verka Seduchka in it again? Her song was awesome.

It's a shame Israel's nomination didn't make it for being too "political." If you thought Lordi was different, you haven't seen anything yet.

Here's Ireland's 1980 winner redone by Shane MacGowan and the Popes. Don't bother with the original.

What about the queen of "being offensive and different"?

Silvia Night. Video and performance. She's the Ali G/Borat of Eurovison.

I'm quite probably on my own here, but I loved France's entry last year.
