What's strange and idiotic to us Americans is that 99% of us have never even heard of this asshole even in passing, and of that 1 percent, probably 99% of them have never even heard of his band, let alone any of his music, but in Britain, he's in the tabloid pages 24/7 like royalty. I don't even think it's all the Kate Moss thing, either. The British tabloid media promote him like he's a valuable and important export, like the rest of the world should be very interested and aware of his every move, when we're like "Huh? Who?"

I think I hate him on principle (chinless junkie bastard with a stupid band name), and I've never even heard a second of his music. Odd. And I'm probably not alone.

Y'know, it's funny because Doherty fronts a band called Babyshambles. And damned if they didn't release a good CD in 2007. It's got some great Indie Britpop tunes on it.

I, like most farkers, have been reading about this jackoff for I don't know how long so I invested 5 minutes in some youtube research and I am disgusted with myself to admit that babyshambles does not suck.

I had a similar revulsion session where I found out that Amy Winehouse('s music) isn't revolting either, and some of it is catchy.

Translation: I'm an ignorant fark who says someones music sucks while admitting to never hearing a second of his music. As Bill Hicks once said,

I love that a lot of the same people who cry junkie scum on Pete Doherty are probably the same people listening to Zepplin, the Stones, Motley Crue, Sabbath, The Who, Hendrix and Bowie. A lot of the greatest musicians from just about every genre were drug addled farkups off-stage. In fact, you could even make a plausible argument that the pain and misery associated with their habits contribuited to their art (Lou Reed anyone?), and the reckless irresponsability to their rockstar personas (Moon?). While Doherty is certainly none of these people, he is an amazingly talented musician in an industry increasingly dominated by the talentless. Not only is he an exceptionally talented lyricist, but he's relentlessly charismatic (hence the kate moss thing)and honest in his music. Don't write him off because he's a junky, because in doing so you write off so many other musicians. Check out songs like The Belle y La Bette (sp?), Down in Albion, What Katie Did, and the 32nd of December. Sure, there's a bit of a learning curve with his music, but then that's the same for the Velvet Underground and Henrix.

The guy is a jackass of the highest order and should have run out of chances a long time ago, but I will say that The Libertines were fantastic.

Used to be in The Libertines. As I said before, they were really, really good. They broke up after 2 albums, and his drug use had a whole lot to with it.

Now in a band called Babyshambles. I've never heard them but supposedly they're at least ok.
