What a Renaissance man... Family Circus and now this.

Jaboobinator [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 03:23:31 PM
Exile on Main Street is all the way down at 48? What a bullshiat list.

aimtastic [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 03:27:13 PM
I love lists like this from the UK. They're a lot closer to my own tastes than anything from the US.

Great Metal Jesus [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 03:39:50 PM
Well that list was made of suck interspersed with very rare acknowledgment of awesome.

petieluvsu [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 03:49:57 PM
fark Oasis. Seriously who likes them?

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 04:46:56 PM
No zeppelin until number 29?
And Arctic Monkeys are even in there at all?

Wow. That list has amazing incredible amounts of fail.

beve [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 06:31:29 PM
Oasis? Fark off!

Canuck Eh 2008-02-18 06:38:15 PM
as probably fark's only oasis fan, i'll declare this list full of win, acknowledge that it sounds like nobody over the age of 30 voted in it, ask everyone to get over it cos lists like this are always, ALWAYS bullsh*t, wipe hands on pants, and carry on with my night.

CruiserTwelve [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 06:46:53 PM
Who the heck is (are) Oasis? And the best the Rolling Stones can do is 48? Did a 12 year old make this list?

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 06:54:39 PM
oh, and completely missing, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.
But they include Amy Whorehouse. WTF?

Wabash 2008-02-18 07:02:52 PM
Better list:

1. The Beatles - White Album
2. Led Zeppelin - IV
3. The Who - Who's Next
4. Pink Floyd - DSOTM
5. Radiohead - OK Computer
6. The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street
7. The Clash - London Calling
8. Queen - A Night at the Opera
9. Depeche Mode - Violator
10. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

213. Oasis- (What's The Story) Morning Glory?

kronicfeld [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 07:05:37 PM
Revolver and Sgt. Pepper are 1 and 1a. Everything else is tied for 10th at least.

Nestea Plunge: 17. A Night At The Opera - Queen

Blasphemy to be at 17.

Damn straight. Every time I look at lists like these, Queen always seems to be barely present, yet they have spent more time on the charts than The Beatles and have plenty of songs that people take for granted.

But yah, I disagree with this list. I just looked, Led Zeppelin at 29th?! Heck, Amy Whinehouse is 35th? No Eric Clapton? No Rolling Stones? Oasis on the list 4 times?!?! What a crappy list.

niteshift 2008-02-18 09:09:41 PM
George Harrison - All things must pass is > than anything amy winewhore will ever do in any lifetime.

To the person who put this list together, cremate yourself.

deevo 2008-02-18 09:13:36 PM
XD at that list. Coldplay three times, Oasis 4 times, both Arctic Monkeys albums, how many times does it have to be the Beatles, did the editors just copy off of some girl's myspace's trying-to-impress-everyone laundry list of favorite bands, and run it as the top 50?

AgentOrangeDrink 2008-02-18 09:17:48 PM
petieluvsu: fark Oasis. Seriously who likes them?

I like Oasis! I like most of the other bands on that list too. Radiohead's In Rainbows, while a fantastic album, was #40, indicating that this list was voted on largely by youth thinking of the albums they can remember. Thus, lots of recent albums and some crap like The Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and Keane.

slideaway 2008-02-18 09:18:09 PM
petieluvsu: fark Oasis. Seriously who likes them?

I love Oasis, hence my handle being after one of their songs, also i like The Verves - Slide Away too.

And apparently alot of people seeing as how they have the top 2 British albums of all-time here.

And to each there own, dick.

RaKellaKAT 2008-02-18 09:18:38 PM
I hate stuff like this- they're just trying to be boat-rockers not putting the Beatles at the top (I personally would put OK Computer first and then Revolver or The White Album). They're just trying to be giant-killers.

My biatchings:

Absolution is NOT better than Origin of Symmetry

And yeah, A Night At The Opera is a top-ten for sure.

/Queen fangirl.

Also, looking at this makes me realize how starved we are for great American rockers. Don't flame me, I'm not saying there aren't any, but just look at this list- we couldn't assemble anything close to this.

sadbad 2008-02-18 09:21:14 PM
Wow horrible list.

Oasis.
Really?
Really?

RaKellaKAT 2008-02-18 09:22:02 PM
Also, I really do like Oasis and Coldplay- they just don't belong in the top ten with the likes of some of the others on this list.

Missing the Stone Roses debut. There's a reason that album routinely appears at the top of most UK 'best of' lists. It's a simply amazing farking record. If you don't think so it's only because you haven't heard it or are very dense. No other options.

Started this but never finished it. Sums up how I feel about that band,

Wonder Balls

(To the tune of "Wonderwall" by Oasis)

Someday they're going to find out our songs are poo.
Right now rip them off is all we wanna do.
We can't believe that anybody plays this bad for you, holy cow.

Fast fleece: two words and a really bad beat and the young will buy our records out.
We're sure you've heard it all before still you suck up every drop.
We can't believe that anybody invented a better cash cow.

'Cause all the words we sing to you are whining.
'Cause all the notes we play to you are trying.
There are so many things we'd like to say to you, but we've no clue how.

But maybe
I can get them to pay me
'Cause after all
The young are so gullible.

SilentStrider: oh, and completely missing, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

You read my mind

JeffTL 2008-02-18 09:55:04 PM
Actually, Hopes and Fears was a lot better than Under The Iron Sea ... they mixed it bad and you couldn't hear Tom Chaplin on most of the songs. Just better music on H&F too.

But my only real complaint is no Moody Blues.

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-02-18 10:03:12 PM
Where the fark is
"Brothers in arms" by Dire Straits
and
"Closer" by Joy Division [which IMHO is 10x better than "Unknown Pleasures"]

Couldn't agree more on the JD.

Also: both Keane albums and Arctic Monkeys, but no Franz Ferdinand? They basically revitalized 60's/70's-inspired rock-and-roll.

AntiProEveryThing 2008-02-18 10:21:50 PM
looks at list...
No XTC, Yes, King Crimson, Tull, or Kinks
All abourd the FAIL TRAIN

RaKellaKAT
It would be very very easy to assemble a list that rivals British music....even if we dont include our state to the north Canada

Canadian Canuck
The Stones are on the list twice....right at the bottom. Joke list

Maynard G. Muskievote 2008-02-18 10:26:08 PM
So two Keane albums are better than anything Led Zeppelin ever released? I know how these lists are usually bullshiat, but this one definitely seems like it was written by Groundskeeper Willie on a bender.

'THE POINT OF A LIST LIKE THIS IS TO STIMULATE DEBATE'

Top 10 American Presidents:

10. James Madison
9. Bill Clinton
8. Ulysses S Grant
7. Abraham Lincoln
6. Andrew Johnson
5. Millard Fillmore
4. Richard Nixon
3. William Henry Harrison
2. Jimmy Carter
1. George W. Bush

/the point of a list like this is to stimulate debate
//no actual research necessary

bobthenewsman 2008-02-18 10:46:49 PM
Beatles For Sale
The Who Sell Out
Wheels Of Fire-Cream
Astral Weeks- Van Morrison
Blind Faith
and about a hundred more that the list neglects...

nuronic 2008-02-18 10:50:33 PM
Huge Radiohead fan, favorite band outside of The Black Keys, but I wonder if ultimately In RaInbows isn't their best. The Bends is brilliant, but In Rainbows might be better than that and Ok Computer in the long run. Four Minute Warning, wow, just wow and videotape, the whole album is like the soundtrack to your life, well my life maybe.. Also love Keane, Coldplay and The Stone Roses, might be time to move to England, huh?

I have both of those Oasis albums and all I gotta say is, wow what a bad list. Led Zep IV at 29? Ummm....

I know, that why I never finished it. But it does sum up how I feel about them. One of the worst, most exploitive bands ever; nothing but stark-naked hubris. Bush is just the political equivalent of Oasis.

433 [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 11:28:12 PM
Dark Side of the Moon is the best album.

I don't mean "best album in that list."

TheSilverOne 2008-02-18 11:31:01 PM
Where the fark is Driveshaft's self-titled album? Seriously people.

/I love Black Holes and Revelations, but one of the all-time 50 best?

Ilmarinen 2008-02-18 11:37:04 PM
Holy shiat. Every list leaves people dissatisfied, but this one really is a celebration of suck like I've never witnessed before. Look at what crap Who's Next has to allow above it.

the_knutsens 2008-02-18 11:37:06 PM
this list makes me want to break things. like my Oasis cd's...

Blasphemy to be at 17.

A Day At The Races
kicks A Night At The Opera's ass every time.

/but it is a damn shame that Queen doesn't get the credit they deserve

Well yeah, it really is. I mean OoS is great, but really, after Citizen Erased, the rest of the album lets down and finishes weakly. Absolution, however, is a complete album.

Kid A was conspicuously missing. Much better than In Rainbows.

And most of everything on that list really is better than Oasis. Why not make a list of the best American music, put Brittney Spears in first and second place, and then say the list should stimulate debate?

Gestalt 2008-02-19 12:58:15 AM
Two Keane albums and a Libertines album, this is definitely a chronocentric view of British music.

Pontius Gandalf 2008-02-19 01:06:34 AM
No Style Council, Pistols, Tull, Yardbirds, or Madness. A pint of FAIL, served at room temperature.

danduran 2008-02-19 03:05:25 AM
No one seems to have RTFA and realised this list was based on a vote, not subjective opinion from the writers.

/loves Oasis
//agrees with much said on this thread otherwise
