The FDA is recalling beef that was produced two or more years ago. How much do they really think their going to get back?

FTFA The recall will affect beef products dating to Feb. 1, 2006, that came from Chino-based Westland/Hallmark Meat Co., the federal agency said.

Good to know that meat I ate almost 2 years ago was bad. I only eat beef that's been slaughtered this week.

The Grinch: Well, where IS the beef?

FTFA: "The recall will affect beef products dating to Feb. 1, 2006"

I'm thinking that any meat that hasn't been eaten has been thrown out by now. At least I hope school lunch programs aren't serving up meat that old.

I just cooked up a couple burgers and they had a little bit of pink in them so I was already a little uneasy. Then with burger in hand I read the headline and I honestly felt sick for a minute.

people could possibly have it in there freezers. it would be technically still good. But who are these people storing hamburgers for 2 years? not sure.

I'd love to see the FDA mandate meat irradiation. The producers don't want to do it because they'd have to overhaul production lines that are optimized for no-irradiation preparation. The public won't ask for it because they're Dumb. So take advantage of the godlike power that has accreted to the Executive Branch over the last century and a half and put the hammer down: if it's meat and you want to sell it, you'll irradiate it. If you don't want to eat irradiated meat, kill it yourself and cut it into delightful portions.

Unless you have compromised immunity, it's not a problem. They were just using sick animals which isn't really much of a risk. The usual sanitary guidelines are not followed anyway, just because they fark up when gutting a steer does not mean they are going to toss it. It just means that there is probably some shiat in ur burger. Still tastes fine though, no?

What? And no corresponding increase from Bert to Ernie in the terror threat level? You'd think that the Bushies would have learned a thing or two about 'informing' the public of asymmetric terror threats. The food, the food! They put it in the food!

What a freaking waste. Just mark the meat as higher risk, cut the price in half, sell it to the poor. Nobody will get sick so long as the meat is cooked extra.

andrew131: I only eat beef that's been slaughtered this week.

You are so missing out.

Cooked, unaged beef has been described as "metallic" and lacking in typical beef flavor. Aging gives beef a flavor that has been described as "gamy." True beef flavor is fully developed after about 11 days of aging. The aged beef flavor increases with increasing aging time. Link (^)

Or you can build your own factory and irradiate it yourself and let everyone else have their standard dirty meat. I could care less either way because I THOROUGHLY COOK MY MEAT.

well, a lot of that red meat is still floating around intestines across the country, so i'm sure if they sponsor the enemas they can have whatever comes out...
