Kazakhstan will have to wait till 2067 for Chinese Democracy.
About 10 years after it's released.

WTF? Every middle eastern country understandably has a lot of middle eastern music except Afghanistan:

Queen
The Beatles
Eminem
R.E.M.
Alanis Morissette
Pink Floyd
Billy Joel
Scorpions
Green Day
Evanescence

CheddarPants [TotalFark] 2008-02-17 08:53:49 PM
According to this, the Beatles are the number one artist in Kentucky. I wish.

MrKraclenutz 2008-02-17 09:30:25 PM
I call BS. They claim that Toby Keith is the number 6 artist in Iraq.

Neither does Iraq. Are we seeing the pattern here?

...American soldiers are the ones reporting/are introducing the music to the locals

Cool find subby.

I can attest that they do in fact like Avril Levine in China. While I was there for two weeks last summer I heard a surprising amount. Also, note how much the Finnish people love their metal.

Finland is the closest thing to a heaven there is.

How come in almost every state, the Beatles are number 1?

Except for Alaska, where The Eagles trump the Beatles...
And Utah, which isn't a real state anyways...

nimeye 2008-02-17 10:36:22 PM
Still number one in Germany- David Hasselhoff

I feel sorry for all the countries that seem to enjoy the Linkin Park we export.

I love that in Thailand, among the top bands are Clash (not that one), another Thai band called Big Ass, and a Thai industrial metal group called ReTROspECT. Support your local artist!

danduran 2008-02-18 12:06:53 AM
The top 10 albums seem right for NZ, if a few weeks old, but where did they get the top 10 bands list from? GnR and Metallica haven't released albums in years, and GnR's G/H is a budget cheapie, and Metallica don't have one... so WTF?

I can say with 99.9% accuracy (I work for the country's largest CD chain and follow the charts) the biggest selling artists of the last few years are Coldplay, Fat Freddy's Drop, Led Zep, Brooke Fraser, Bic Runga, Hayley Westenra and James Blunt.

Not what is listed here.

I don't know what any of that crap is, but maybe NZ should stick to Rugby and not music.

ekdikeo4 2008-02-18 12:13:07 AM
Erm, GnR Greatest Hits was actually recently the #1 album in the world...

frostus [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 12:23:58 AM
Figures half of the top bands for Vermont are crap (Dead, Phish, DMB, Eagles). Twits.

#7 in Japan is Ai Otsuka. She puts out a lot of fluff, but has earned her place with "Planetarium," "Kingyo Hanabi," "Daisuki da yo," and even "Sakuranbo."

And they evidently have a thing for Elton John in Trinidad and Tobago. That's interesting -- he doesn't show up #1 in many places on here.

Why does every far-east country have a hard-on for Linkin Park? I'm shocked.

dokool [TotalFark] 2008-02-18 08:56:00 AM
Given that the Backstreet Boys played a couple sold-out shows at the Tokyo Dome this weekend, I am slightly shocked (and relieved) to see that there isn't a single American artist in the Japan Top 10. There's hope for this country yet...

/goes back to my Ellegarden, Maximum the Hormone, and B-Dash

Whoa...in Russia, the soundtracks to games are in the top 10!

#3: The Witcher-Various Artists
#5: Half-Life 2: Episode 2

redstarr01 2008-02-18 04:15:07 PM
These results are neat because they aren't necessarily based on new album sales. Gracenote is that thing that finds the CD information for you when you put stuff on your ipod with itunes (I'm sure it's used elsewhere, but that's overwhelmingly the main place I've noticed it.). So this map shows what the people with ipods are putting on them. Interesting perspective on listening habits.

I don't even have a level 70 character, and I still play so much WoW that I read that as Karazhan. WTF.

Wow, bagging on stuff you haven't even heard. Maybe you should stick to being a big man on the internet.

FARK: The GnR album is a new release.
