As a resident of Cecil County, MD, I can say that there's many people who I'd like to shoot with birth control...

See, this is exactly why we need assault rifles. 3-round bursts at the feeder and population problem solved. Cuz you know they come to the feeder 'bout the same time every day. You don't even have to get out of your lazy boy in some parts of Texas.

Dont the deer have the right to be there? They were there before the people were.

On top of that - bow hunting! They shove a stick into a deer and wait hours for it to die. How cruel! Further proof of the sickness that infects these neanderthal carnivores.

Well, there no real predators left to keep the population in check. So the populations swell until theres tons of starving deer. So actually, this sort of hunting isn't a bad thing for the environment.

/since when do deer have "rights"? anyhow..

Yeah, you're right! Let's set up the hunters with deer rifles in populated areas! Brilliant!

Besides, if it takes an hour for the deer to bleed out, you'd be a crappy shot. I'm betting with good shot placement the time is about the same as with a gunshot wound. Have you ever seen a hunting tip for an arrow?

Deer = Rats with antlers.

KarmicDisaster 2008-02-17 08:00:56 PM
We should let the anti-hunters have their way here and see what happens. The starving deer will eat EVERTHING, starting with all foliage within reach, then all tree branches and new shoots, then the tree bark. Their forrest will tqke years to recover, since no new trees can get started. The deer will have no problems coming right up to your house when they are starving, eating anything they can. Then the dead deer start showing up in the winter which is always fun. Meanwhile car/deer accidents will be up, and ticks will be plentyful with hosts everywhere. If you want to have a deer population, you have to control it either with predators or people.

That's illegal in MD. I remember when I was a little kid my dad used to do that. When I was like 4.

Dad: Hey you want to go see some deer?
Me: Yeah!
*drives out into a field with lights off*
*dad gets out of car*
Dad: Hey you see that switch can you pull it for me?
Me:Uh okay.
*bam thud*
Dad: Okay got one we can go home now.
Me: YOU JUST KILLED BAMBI BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Dad: Quit crying and take off your gloves, I think I might need you to help tie it down to the hood.

There is no effective birth control on the market to use in wild roaming herds where the deer can be monitored so the multiple booster shots can be administered to the does to make the birth control effective. The maker of one of the drugs being touted by ARA's has ceased production and research on it due to it's ineffectiveness. Personally I'd like to see them use an Atlatl like is legal in Pennsylvania to take whitetail

A good effort, but a little TOO over the top. Should have played up the pain/suffering of the animals more, with less emphasis on direct personal attack on the hunters.

Hunting for sport is dumb.

Hunting if you're going to eat the animal, not so dumb.

Their numbers do need to be moderated, so they don't all die from starvation.

I personally do not hunt, but I do enjoy a good deer steak.

Bowhunting is a VERY humane method of hunting. As with using a firearm, shot placement is critical and a bowhunter must know his effective range. A hunting arrow kills by hemorrage, a slug or bullet by the destruction of vital organs. With both bow and gun, the heart/lung area is the prime location to place the shot, preferrably with a broadside shot. I took two does this season, one each with bow and shotgun. The bow killed doe expired within approximately 20 seconds, the gun kill maybe 10 seconds. Both, in my opinon, were quick and humane kills.

ExJersyGirl - That is a direct quote from a state biologist in SC where I used to live. I believe he was talking about the way they reproduce and their eating habits. I deeply suspect they are tastier than rats though I guess it is all in how you cook them.
