But Stewart said she is skeptical the pull could have belonged to Earhart in part because Col. Lewis Walker, who brought Talon forerunner Automatic Hook and Eye Co. to Meadville, actively promoted his product.

Or maybe somebody had a severe fastener failure while joining the mile-high club?

Or a remnant from the cargo containers of Nike shoes that went overboard back in the 80's?

I think they are grasping at straws!

That anything like a zipper?

Keep in mind.. we're talking about a zipper pull... thats the little tab you pull on when you zip up your jacket or bag...etc... its a ZIPPER PULL. Thats all they found, nothing else.. so this asshat make this statement in the article...

"This is exciting stuff," said Ric Gillespie, executive director of Delaware-based aviation group. "Now we have this site on the island that is producing artifacts that speak of an American woman in her 30s, and the only one missing out there is her. So, this is solid stuff."

You knw who else used zippers in the Pacific right around that time? The US Army, Navy, Air Corps and Marines during WWII. I will bet you huge amounts of money that Talon got a contact to make zippers for the US military. Much more likely that it came off of one of the thousands of pilots who crashed/were shot down in the Pacific during WWII.

Not necessarily "fail," but could have made the sarcasm a bit clearer in the headline to warrant the Obvious tag...

Here we go again. Another white girl goes missing in a tropical paradise, and the media can't stop talking about it.

People are losing their homes left and right, the Taliban has pretty much retaken Afghanistan, but oh no, a white girl is missing, so let's run three extra Datelines just to cover our bases.

You people are clueless. She is alive and well. How else could I have seen her on Lost talking to Juliett when she she burned the muffins. She was looking a little rough, but I could tell.

/If you'll excuse me I need to go back to reviewing last Thursday's episode frame by frame.

planes 2008-02-17 05:10:09 PM
In 1928, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. But, not knowing how to fly a multi-engine plane, she rode in the back as a passenger. The media ignored that little technicality, and Earhart became an overnight sensation.

Based on the overwhelming amount of evidance that they cant fly, why are we still letting chicks fly crash planes into the pacific?

She didn't crash. She landed there deliberately, and after sampling the local male wahngooboo, decided not to return to America. Amelia was a very lusty woman, and learned it's true what they say : Once you tried the Nikumaroro, nothing else will do do. The zipper is actually off her pants, which she never wore again.

FTA: "But Stewart said she is skeptical the pull could have belonged to Earhart in part because Col. Lewis Walker, who brought Talon forerunner Automatic Hook and Eye Co. to Meadville, actively promoted his product.

He would probably have capitalized on the publicity from Earhart's use of his product, yet there is no evidence he did so, she said."

Does anyone else find this more than a little weak? How would he have found out that she was wearing one of his zippers?
