dooder0001: I don't get what's so special about the Hollywood sign. It's an eyesore on an ugly hill.

People like to identify with things that make them feel special. In Portland we have this area called "The Pearl": It was named after an artist and arts advocate because it's the area with the most galleries. In the last 10 years it's been turned into a hell-hole of condominiums and boutiques; most of the lifelong Portland residents dread having to go near there. The residents that live there (mostly Californians), think the area is the best place in Portland and that's why it's called "The Pearl". They love to tell everyone, "I live in The Pearl", not realizing why it has that name, and certainly not realizing that anyone with a brain is rolling their eyes in disgust.

dooder0001: I don't get what's so special about the Hollywood sign. It's an eyesore on an ugly hill.

Meh... Maybe after you've become jaded it's an eyesore. I remember looking up at it everyday after I got my first job in Hollywood at KCBS TV. It was kind of cool for a kid from North Dakota to look at it and think - wow, I made it. Then after a while, it got old, and I didn't care about it anymore. Now that I've been out of L.A. for a while, it does bring back fond memories. And when I'm out on the coast doing work, seeing it reminds me of why I started the career I'm in in the first place.

Whenever I'm in Cali with anybody new that wants to go see it, I show them my old view of it from Sunset and Gower, then I take them to Roscoe's for some chicken and waffles so they can see what Hollywood is really like.

That's so sad... Thanks for making me realize it. Oh, and I've been to Regina before - you must know the Dobb's! Tell 'em I said hello when you get there! (and if you actually reply back with "Brian and Lori?" I'll farking shiat myself...)

No, Minot's not a dive mecca, but we do have these cool things called airplanes that fly out of here three times a day. I can usually be on one coast or the other by noon on a given day. 10:00 AM if I'm going to California. My production partner and DP lives on Catalina Island, so that's where all the mail goes. Less questions.... And the show pitch is going well. I have a big, big production company that has lots of shows on the two channels I'm pitching it to that's interested in co-producing it with us. We'll probably be contracting with them in the next week or two, and then they'll start pitching it officially to Disc... I mean... the channel we want it to go on.

I went hiking in Fryman Canyon not long before leaving L.A... it was a little bit surreal... there were some places where you would actually be isolated from all views of roads/houses, but most of the time you were pretty much walking alongside rich peoples' back yards.

No giant twisted metal signs, but there was an old rusted out car at the bottom of a cliff right next to the path. Ah, nature!

As we were hiking out we ran into Tanya Roberts and her dogs. You can't even go for a hike in L.A. without seeing people you recognize from TV.

/Nice lady
