Only, it was a completely different article about something totally different that people would have actually liked to read and comment on.

forestwalker: Is there some reference regarding f/s that we need explained to us?

When I was at school, we had to translate something from Latin, but nobody told me the Latin s's looked like f's I spent an hour looking up a word (that didn't exist) in several dictionaries. Then it dawned on me that it was an S.

/wasn't even for a latin class
//latin wasn't even a pre-req

"... and among these are Life, Liberty, and the Purfuit of Happineff?"
"That's 'Pursuit of Happiness'"
"Well, all your S's look like F's"
"It's a style thing. It's in, it's very in."

Old Stan Freberg routine. Can't read the Declaration of Independence the same way anymore.

The article was complaining about the seeming random way holidays are placed on the calender, especially Valentine's Day. Which in no ways explains why subby thought this would be interesting to read.

/btw, Valentine's Day was chosen by the Hallmark company for the whole romance thing because Saint Valentine was a martyr who married young Roman couples in the newly formed Christian faith and was executed by the Romans authorities for it.

July 4? Meh.

Continental Congress declared independence on July 2, folks. John Adams wrote to his wife the next day saying that July 2 should be celebrated forever. The whole Declaration thing on July 4 was just a nice write-up of stuff.

Oh, and New Jersey's provincial legislature finalized a new constitution for it on July 2, as well.

/Used to live in the town where the NJ folks signed theirs.
//July 4 people are perpetually late slacking types.

Finally, something we can all discuss.

Ahem, toast is clearly superior to pie in every way. You couldn't be more wrong and are probably of an opposite socio/political/religious group than I am and are, therefore, retarded. Kindly die in a fire.

The best pie I ever had was a homemade wild blueberry pie. But apple is a fav too.

Pies have to be homemade, store bought ones don't cut it.

Bah! It's not necessarily just the firſt Eſs that's long, it's long in most circumſtances in which it appears anywhere other than the end of a word. At the end of words, or for the ſecond of two Eſses, the 'terminal' Eſs is used.

In German, ſs evolved into its own letter, ß.

Jane, you ignorant slut. Since it has been proven over and over again in subjective tests that I will not give you the results from that show that pie is indeed superior to toast, I'm afraid that I'm going to have to hire some goons to beat the snot out of you. Please just sit where you are for the next ten minutes.

The link (now) goes to a lame blog about Valentine's Day - or did it always and I missed something?

Anyway, he goes on to say: Easter is the worst. We never know when Easter is coming.

Friend, Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox.

Toast can go into salads, along with bits of bacon.

And with bacon on your side, you cannot go wrong.

/Bacon, coupled with toast, FTW.

Ah, yes, bacon is truly superior to both toast and pie, and will greatly improve a salad or baked potato. To truly appreciate, however, you must wrap it around steak.

Hang on, let me get the goons on the phone. If your doorbell rings, just don't answer it. It's not a candygram.

Carolina Day is our Independence Day. My favorite part of the story is how British Admiral Peter Parker (no relation to Spider-Man, kids) had his pants shot off...
