Kids today give up Facebook and MySpace for Lent

Christa Byker, a 21-year-old senior at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, added a line to her profile on Ash Wednesday warning her friends that she'd be disappearing from the digital world: "I am leaving Facebook to its own devices during the Lenten fast."

How old are kids to you submitter?

Any chance of MySpace and Facebook giving up their businesses for Lent?

21 is not a kid. Are you an enabler of the snowflake generation? You must be one these adults that believe it's okay to take care of your child until they're 30 yoa.

I say tax them like every other business.
Even better would be the system some EU nations use, where donations come right out of your paycheck and the only way to avoid them is too get out of the religion.

A cult is any religion one joins as an adult.

So, for this Lenten season I'm giving up dismembering prostitutes. Does it count if you never actually did the thing you gave up?

Not it that way dumbass. A 21 year old is still rather unexperienced though.

Think of it as a transitional time if you must.

Nope, has to be something you normally do.

Monks used to limit themselves to one beer a day, so they brewed a 12% ABV or higher beer for this time.

The goddamned paradox is that, at a 35 year old guy in a major corporation, since I am surrounded by 45-60 year olds with "kids" in their 20s, they see me, they see a "kid"... so by enabling their little goddamned basement-dwelling jerkoffs to remain a teenage in perpetuity, I get a lot of "you're young! your career is just starting" and what not.

Seriously. I'm sure Jesus, having willingly allowed himself to be nailed to a cross to slowly die of exposure and positional asphyxiation, will be totally miffed that you're eating meat on a Friday.

They're doing it wrong. Why give up your favorite things? Why not just give up things that you only mildly like, such as for Lent, not watching any Star Trek movie, other than 5. Why give up the good stuff???

Or better yet, not be apart of a belief that requires you to give shiat up for a few weeks.

/knew a kid in jr. high who's parents made him give up meat for Lent.

Then just pay attention over the next few years. It will come to you.

90% of 21 yearolds, don't know anything about real life, they just got out of highschool 3 years ago and many are in college.

You are young. You should be considering getting rid of your starter wife and thinking about what career you really want to focus the next twenty years of your life on.

Yeah, I've thought about it. Unfortunately the flipside of the coin is probably worse- places where the lack of experience and competence creates a business environment which is more unstable than a Turkish Space Shuttle. If I were single and w/o kids I'd be able to weather that instability a little better.

I wouldn't have to think too hard... "Alimony, loneliness and child support" doesn't sound like a great way of life.

How old do you think I am? The only reason 21 year olds are lacking experience is because their parents do everything for them. Sadly, where I'm from, most "kids" are knocked up, drop out of school, and working full time by the time they reach 18. So it's a different perspective from my viewpoint.

Your state must suck if that really is the norm. I somehow doubt it, those are just the ones that are memorable.

It's not the state, it's the county. Look up Nueces County. It's the highest in adolescent pregnancy. There are daycares in the high schools down here.

So that is the only thing that makes people volunteer or be charitable?

I'm 21, going to be 22 soon, and I have no doubt that I expect my elders to still see me as a kid. That's just how it's going to work.

That being said, as long as I am still treated legally like an adult, because I am, I don't care.

Funny. That was a waste of time and tax dollars. Sex education wouldn't do much better because most of the population here is Catholic and they don't believe in contraceptives.

Well, it was a joke. As to catholics not using contraceptives; I find that a bit odd. I was one, and know many they all use them. Certain ethnic minorities maybe more strict though, I guess.
