I know getting him to improve roads, power, or really anything useful in this country is out of the question but any chance we can get Bush to stick to democratic principles and sound economic policies?

If he just doesn't bomb any other countries before he leaves, I'll be happy.

Ignorance is bliss, isn't it? Spend 5 min reading about Mugabe and your snark will vanish.

bp3.blogger.com

Just replace "Anonymity" with "Ignorance" in this graph, and we have your situation.

Let me know when Bush starts publicly assassinating anyone who disagrees with him, even his own countrymen. (and your snarky mentions of war do not count, that is about more than merely disagreeing with him about political matters)

If you really want to go down that road you can compare Mugabe to Obama/Clinton.

1. Mass redistribution of property and wealth from successful people to people who do not understand how anything works.

2. No real solid policies to tout, just a mass appeal for "Change" from the "oppressive" system the "poor" are currently under.

3. The public assassination of rivals. (Clinton only, though political assassination, not physical)

While neither Clinton or Obama come within 1,000 miles of Mugabe, comparing them to him is about the same as comparing Bush to him. We really don't have it so bad, competence is a sliding scale, our very worst period of governance (either Carter or Hoover) was hundreds of times more competant in governing the land than Mugabe, and even our most power hungry leader (FDR or Nixon) was nowhere close to Mugabe in ruthlessness or audacity.

Subby, the Florida vote was almost eight years ago. Move on. It was Gore who tried to suppress votes by disenfranchising the absentee voters (military) and like it or not, the Supreme Court issued its ruling. Even the New York Times conceded that Bush had the popular vote in Florida. It is so tiresome to keep and hearing and reading about this. The Dems have another shot this year and if they lose again who are you going to blame?

BTW, I live in Florida and the butterfly ballots were not complicated or difficult to use. I think 2004 was the final referendum on the 2000 election for better or worse.

Really. I'm so tired of my grandfather telling me stories about when he was a kid Bush stole the election. I think what went wrong was that the ballots were transported via Pony Express and it kept getting attacked by indians and vikings. Plus the earth was still cooling and that confused a lot of people.

The issue isn't whether Bush is "better" or "worse" than Mugabe - the truth is, we'll never know. We live in a country that is fortunate enough to have systems in place to restrict the abuses of power of morons like Bush (and sufficiently affluent and socially cohesive that they still function to some extent). They don't function as well as we wish they had, but they are there.
The difference is that we are seeing what Mr. Mugabe does when he can do absolutely anything he wants. If Mr. Bush could do whatever he wanted ( and no, hyperbole aside, he cannot, in fact), as Mugabe can.....well, I tremble to think.

twilson2 2008-02-17 11:40:10 AM
>> Too bad for Bush the machine broke back in 2006.

Well you can't steal any election. It has to be somewhat close.

For example with all the polls that have come out since 2006 it would be an obvious election theft if the repubs took back congress.

They are just too far behind in too many places.

randomjsa 2008-02-17 11:44:29 AM
I wonder exactly how many objective studies of the 2000 election would be required to prove that Bush did indeed win? The two or three that already exist are apparently not enough to appease people with BDS.

"B-but..."

But nothing, that election was studied after the fact nine ways from Sunday and Bush won.

Quietly Florida Admits 2000 Election Fraud
By The Associated Press
April 26, 2002 | Filed at 10:17 p.m. ET

MIAMI (AP) -- A federal judge has approved a settlement between Leon County and civil rights groups that sued over widespread voting problems in the 2000 presidential election in Florida.

The state and six other counties remain in the case brought by the NAACP and four other groups who sued in a dispute that grew out of the long-uncertain results of Florida's vote for president.

"There was nothing they were seeking that was impossible to achieve," Ion Sancho, Leon County supervisor of elections, said Friday. "I've been a proponent of settlement from the moment the lawsuit was filed."

Thomasina Williams, one of the attorneys for voters, said settlement talks are under way with other counties, and she was optimistic that some will follow Leon's move. Trial is set for Aug. 26.

State lawmakers changed election laws in response to complaints after the 2000 election, but critics said the changes didn't go far enough.

In the biggest departure from current procedures, Leon agreed to give a written explanation to voters whose ballots are rejected. The idea to make that a state standard was discarded by the Legislature.

The groups that sued agreed that the settlement "achieves some if not all of the relief" they could have obtained at trial, according to the court order dropping Leon from the lawsuit last week.

The county agreed to address disputes over voting, voter registration and voting lists and will meet with community groups to boost registration, with special efforts targeting minorities and college students. Sancho said he was doing all of that before.

Many voters said their votes didn't count or they were turned away from polls due to mistakes on voter lists, busy telephone lines at election headquarters, punch-card voting machine foul-ups and other problems.

Statewide, the largest numbers of voting problems were found in precincts with high proportions of black and elderly voters.

Under the settlement, both sides will work to restore voters who were wrongly removed from voters lists in the 2000 election. Many law-abiding voters across the state said their names were dropped because they were mistakenly pegged as ex-cons, who generally aren't allowed to vote in Florida.

The county also agreed to improve communication and training for staffers who work on election day.

Leon County includes the state capital of Tallahassee.

Who were the 5 Brigade? 4.« »6.
In October 1980, Prime Minister Mugabe signed an agreement with the North Korean President, Kim Il Sung that they would train a brigade for the Zimbabwean army. This was soon after Mugabe had announced the need for a militia to "combat malcontents". However, there was very little civil unrest in Zimbabwe at this time.

Darius Harris: From the teenage idiocy of subby's headline to the few dumbass comments so far, it's just more proof of the obvious: The truth pisses liberals off.

Zimbabwe is everything that the left claims we need. It's got a wonderful marxist economy, forced 'social justice', no more racism and the white devils have finally been put in their place.

Better still, Mugabe has brought 'change', and 'unity'.

Of course (and as always), Zimbabwe's is not the 'real' communism, it's all the white people's fault anyway and now it's 'Bush' who's to blame...

One might say that there is... no hate like Liberal hate?

Now
Bush goes soft. For what Mugabe has done to Zimbabwe we should be calling for Mugabe's head on a plate.
