Dear People Who Voted for Bush in '00 or '04,

While we enjoy your monster truck rallies and your frequent appearances on COPS, could you, as a public service, please refrain from voting in '08? We simply can not afford your 'unique' decision-making abilities to affect our nation any longer.

Sincerely,

The Part of the USA that Does Not Suck

Some states wanted their plants to reduce mercury emissions by 90 percent and to do it quicker than what EPA was requiring. They also did not want their plants buying credits to pollute.

I don't know... but it seems to work for Al.

I thought Bush was the brand of conservative that finds that there is no end to the depth of the federal governments pockets when it comes to involving the Fed in private and state issues.

Wait. I don't mean conservative -- I mean Theocrat.

Well.... if it wasn't for the nasty habit of pollution to cross state borders I'd agree with you. Unless, of course, you're advocating that states have the right to invade other states to enforce their environmental standards. Personally, I'm sick and tired of Wisconsin sending their arsenic laden waters down to Illinois and if we can't have a federal standard to prevent that I'd be happy to send some Chicago boys up to teach those cheese-heads a lesson.

I dont see anyone whos very pro-enviorment conserned at all about how regulating big-buisness might lead to out-sourcing. I dont have the awnsers myself nor do I have my own mind made up about the issue... but people make this seem so oneside, when its really more complex.

As someone who's started monitoring Mercury (and Arsenic) levels in the Chesapeake Bay for SERC, I can say there is a damn lot of people pissed off down here about their catch being too polluted (or dead) to sell at market. If the Feds aren't gonna do anything about this, just give me some company names so a couple of busloads of angry Virginia watermen can go "State's Rights" on their asses

Hey, I've learned a lot in 8 years. I only voted for his sorry ass once, because I was young and stupid. That was one time too many, I admit. But he was right about one thing: he fooled me once, and .... I can't get fooled again.

SilentStrider: So much for states rights.

Bush is, at his core, a firm and principled believer in states rights. This should be obvious to anyone without Bush Derangement Syndrome. What the leftards like to forget is that Bush is The State. We as a country elected him to be our Head of State twice. Then again the left has nothing but open contempt for the constitution.

Now maybe Bush doesn't do the kinds of things al-Qaeda and the New York Times editorial page want him to, but the left will just have to deal with it

Wouldn't ventures that get into "mercury pollution" territory be less entrepreneurial and more toward the huge industrial?

That's what I'm saying... most of our upper Bay poisoning comes from Pennsylvania... and they barely contribute to the Bay fund... hell, they don't even send the right people to help. We talk about metals poisoning and they send down a bunch of guys with pesticide and chlorine gear

We do have higher standards, you putz! What are we supposed to do? Hold back the entire Sesquahanna river until they get their act together? We know where the Mercury is coming from and by and large it ain't us.

Cool, I hope you and your family wouldn't mind eating canned tuna at every meal from now on. The FDA says there's too much mercury in it, and I'm sure you wouldn't want the government to succeed in punishing the tuna companies.

I produce no mercury, so the polluters can buy credits from and pollute all they want!

1. Produce no mercury.
2. Sell credits at confiscatory rates.
3. Profit!

Don't worry. Hillary will get it passed.
Walmart has way too much invested in these new "green" light bulbs.
Read the small print, they are loaded with mercury.
