Today may eventually become known as "the last day before World War 3".

As a geopolitically significant archduke, I plan on avoiding this weekend's proceedings.

How do you figure? Trouble yes, WW3 no.
Also I would like to see your version of WW3 plays out.

GET there fast. Sheesh. Screwin' up the punch line again.

A predominantly Muslim nation in the middle of Europe? I don't think so. This is going to get ugly.

Nah, should be fine. Kosovo is soooo 1998.

Piss on the Serbs. The worst farking people on Earth.

Jubeebee 2008-02-16 09:12:22 PM
They'll be all right once a few NATO members recognize them. Serbia wouldn't be stupid enough to invade a sovereign country after what happened last time.

Way down to Kosovo?

Tyrosine 2008-02-16 09:14:40 PM
But Kosovo belongs to Serbia! They get to keep it forever because they lost a battle 600+ years ago.....

I work with some people from Serbia, and let's just say they aren't planning on visiting home anytime soon

Life's going to get interesting out there once they acquit Haradinaj at the Hague. If they convict the guy, there will be hell to pay in Pristina.

Mustafa Kruja, the Prime Minister of Albania, was in Kosovo in June 1942, and at a meeting with the Albanian leaders of Kosovo, he said: "We should endeavor to ensure that the Serb population of Kosovo be - the area be cleansed of them and all Serbs who had been living there for centuries should be termed colonialists and sent to concentration camps in Albania. The Serb settlers should be killed.
"

Serbs are the final victims of WW2 ethnic cleansing in Europe.

Oh those poor oppressed muslims - why will the non-muslim world just not leave these poor people alone. Can't you see the muslim plight all over the world?

*rolls eyes*

dchall1 2008-02-16 09:22:53 PM
No worries. Serbia wants to get into the EU, so they will sulk for a while and then get over it. But although I support Kosovo's independence, I'm kind of worried about it. No jobs, not much of an economy, and even Albania doesn't want it. Not sure there's a pleasant future in store.

Serbia will not acknowledge it so you can be sure something will happen eventually.

No worries, the Saudis have been funding those Wahhabist mosques for years already. Plenty of employment opportunity for piousm white Muslims in the West.

Damn......... Now I am going to have to spend a year wandering around with a UN target flap on making sure that people I don't know, don't successfully shoot each other. My ex wife will be thrilled.

I for one, support our new Kosovoyan brown nosers getting their own Government.

/Not sure they'll call themselves that
//Don't think there will be a war either

wumpus 2008-02-16 09:35:58 PM
Thaci's government has reportedly ordered 80 tonnes of fireworks from Bulgaria for the occasion.

But some countries will refuse, at least in the short term, to recognise the new state, including Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.

wtf

It is to our great solace and fortune that these farkers are not actually involved in international politics to any significant degree.

Were we to blindfold the "Bbbbut thier Muslem!" crowd, drop them into Prishtina, they wouldn't know where the hell they were.

Farkin' amazing experts for never having been there.

Just in time for a 40-year Prague Spring anniversary, too.

j0ndas 2008-02-16 09:37:44 PM
UN peacekeepers are useless, given that they're not actually allowed to kill bad guys. This will be like if we sent 10,000 soldiers into Iraq rather than 300,000 - and didn't let them bring any weapons. Why even bother?

(given, 10,000 Marines would probably kill a few Iraqis with rocks, take their weapons, and beat the entire Iraqi army anyway - but peacekeeping afterwards might be more difficult)

Meh. Serbia has no political or economic power on the world stage, so I doubt anyone who matters will care. All it will do is confirm opinions already held about Serbia.

Russia, on the other hand, will also refuse to recognise Kosovo, and that's a little different. That said, they won't do much, they've got too much to loose over something so insignificant.

You do get to have weapons when on a UN tour. Also, the ROE are different for each mission. A soldier conducting UN duties is always allowed to protect themselves. Even if that means killing an aggressor.
