Ditka OR Barack Obama could do it by themselves. MAYBE.

IF Obama and Ditka got together and formed the unstoppable Ditka / Obama Voltron, then there's just no way.

Obama's brochures to voters, she said, "sound like they've been written by the health insurance industry and the Republicans, talking about how we can't possibly get to universal health care."

Yeah, just like your mailers look like they were written by the GOP, what with your references to "trillion-dollar tax increases" and shiat.

"We've learned there is this binary way that we're deciding who is doing well," said U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., an informal adviser who was traveling with Clinton. "One is the delegate count and the other is winning states."

You're losing on both counts there, champ.

FTFA: Clinton has been especially hitting Obama on health care, saying his proposal wouldn't achieve universal care because he does not require everybody to obtain health insurance. Clinton's plan has such a mandate, Obama's does not. Obama aims to make insurance more affordable by offering government subsidies to those who can't afford it.

So, let me get this straight, Clinton's idea of health care is better because a citizen is not allowed to opt out if they want to?

Once Jack Ryan dropped out of the senate race in '04, the Illinois Republican Party tried to draft Ditka.

Um... I've not heard anyone talk about her intensity. Ever.

I've heard jeers because she cries like a girl, but that's about it.

I don't think she's the intense, emotional, edgy candidate at all.

Am I the only one that's getting that?

Gosling [TotalFark] 2008-02-16 08:44:35 AM
Oh, I am a Bill
Yes, I'm 42 Bill
And I'm out stumping for candidate Hill
Well, it's a long, long journey
Through the primary season
Attacking Barack
For no good damn reason
And I hope that they vote for my wife
At least I hope and pray that they will
Or Hill will make me a deceased Bill

"Boy, Bill, Hill really has a shot."
"Well, we got this far. When she started she wasn't even a candidate, just my First Lady. Back home she decided she wanted to be President, so she called herself and she told herself "You're right, I oughta be President." Then she sat down and decided she should probably be a Senator first. And so she moved to New York, became a Senator, and she'll remain a Senator until the voters decide to make her President."

I'm just a Bill
Spouse is Senator Hill
And she got as far as Capitol Hill
Well, now she's stuck on the trail and she'll speak and she'll wait
While a few key "journalists" discuss and debate
Whether she should be the nominee
How I hope and pray that they will
But till then I remain Mr. Bill

"Boy, listen to those pundits arguing! Is all that discussion and debate about Hill?"
"It bastardizes the words 'discussion' and 'debate', but yes. Hill's one of the lucky ones. Most candidates never made it this far. I hope they decide to report on her favorably, otherwise I may die."
"Die?"
"Yes, by Hillary's laser beam eyes. Ooh, but it looks like I'm gonna live! Now I go to Texas and Ohio, and they vote on her."
"If they vote for her, then what happens?"
"Then I go to Pennsylvania and the whole thing starts all over again."
"Oh no!"
"Oh yes!"

I'm just a Bill
Former President Bill
And if Pennsylvania votes for my Hill
Well, then we start the convention
Where I'll browbeat some schlub
And I pray that Obama
Makes some sort of flub
And if the supers come through then she'll win
How I hope and pray that they will
But today I remain husband Bill

"You mean even if the whole country says Obama should be the nominee, the supers can still say no?"
"Yes, that's called a brokered convention. If nobody has enough delegates to win, she has to go to all the delegates and they vote again, and by that time the media is so fired up..."
"By that time it's very unlikely she'll be the nominee. It's not easy to become President, is it, Bill?"
"No!"

"They voted for her, Bill! Now she's the nominee!"
McCain: "Oh yes!"

If she pulls it out on Super Delegates and somehow pulls out the election she will never be a legitimate president to me.

Link (new window)

And now she's going after Michigan and Florida delegates? What a whore.

mrexcess [TotalFark] 2008-02-16 09:38:39 AM
She's really showing her true colors now, folks. Pay attention.

bwesb 2008-02-16 09:41:54 AM
Of course she still thinks she can win - she has no other option at this point. This was supposed to be a cakewalk for her; a supremely legitimizing win that would move her away from being the "wife" of a proven douchebag President to being President herself.

Forget her flaws on this; the most unnerving part of her campaign is that she really does look at the Presidency as some sort of prize- the ultimate win for someone who craves winning.

It is not over by a long shot and her campaign people are right to demonstrate that some wins in Texas and Ohio put her right back on track but they also go on the record as listing Obama's wins as coming from meaningless states and that winning in caucuses is somehow less of a win than in primaries.

So the message that comes accross is that unless you live in a "meaningful state" or that if you elect officials by caucus; you don't matter.

That's a incredibly stupid thing to say in an election.

I just saw Hillhore's new ad on MSNBC. I came to the realization that even if the content was 100% true and then some, I am so goddamned sick of seeing this kind of shiat. It pretty much confirmed my instinct not to vote for this woman just by itself.

I really hope I'm not alone.

EdgeRunner 2008-02-16 10:01:45 AM
She's been showing her true colors for years, mrexcess, but for some strange reason, there's still people who refuse to see it. At this point, those people aren't just burying their heads in the sand. They're tunnelling their way to the center of the Earth.

I almost hope she does get the nomination, just for the sheer desperate comedy of her "campaign." Without Obama to steal speeches from, she'll have to start stealing them from McCain. I look forward to her loony descriptions of her years of torment at the hands of the "vast right-wing conspiracy" media, and how it was exactly like being tortured by the Viet Cong only more so. She's the real war hero, people!

I have a theory. It's a bit bizarre, but bear with me: if you combined Hillary Clinton and John McCain, shook them fiercely, and allowed the contents to settle, you would get one George W. Bush and one Barack Obama.

Upset cause she got freight-trained by Obama. Upset because he did it without dirty politics. Even more upset because she cant use dirty politics this time. Im just loving how Obama has kept the whole thing very civil, risen above the Clintons dirty, mud-slinging games. he took it to a level they dont know how to play on.

starsrift: So, let me get this straight, Clinton's idea of health care is better because a citizen is not allowed to opt out if they want to?

That is correct. And for some strange reason, she thinks that this is an idea to use as a focal point for her campaign.

It's like mandatory car insurance. You have a choice with that - "don't want to pay for car insurance? Don't drive." This is more "don't want to pay for health insurance? Don't be a citizen of the United States."

Sure, Hillary, I bet that all of those Republicans and conservative-leaning Americans out there are just going to LOVE this plan.

I guess she hasn't learned much about this stuff since last time.

Well, holy shiat, all we have to do to fix things is "mandate" them fixed? Then let's mandate that by 2010 no one is allowed to be poor. That should solve pretty much everything. Also, let's mandate that no one is allowed to steal, rape, murderdeathkill, etc. We could make a utopia!

Erik_Emune 2008-02-16 02:44:32 PM
Darius Harris: Of course, in the end, ObamaCare will accomplish the same thing. You simply won't be able to function outside of the government imposed system, by which vote-hungry politicians will be the 'wise overseers' of the world's last bastion of medical freedom - the United States of America.

Dude, people in freakin' semi-socialist feelgood Scandinavia go to private hospitals if they feel it's worth it to spend the extra cash to schedule freely or get better grub or whatever. Don't worry, the rich will retain their privileges.

I will forever be baffled by the people who seem to say at the same time that the people in the US healthcare are the world's best, bar none - but they'll be utterly unable to run a system on par with, say, Germany, without turning it into a Kafkaesque hybrid of the DMV and the IRS, only with scalpels.
