Billy Idol really looks like a douchenozzle now, doesn't he?

John Oates really does look like a 'man eater'

Kenny Loggins still looks edible.

As many times as I have seen 19's face over the last year I still didnt recognize him.

That said I actually think they all have held up well.

I think the average Springsteen and Billy Joel fan would take issue with that statement.

/Did I see a few hearing aids in those pix
//Talking to myself and feeling old (OK, that was 1971 but it had to be said)

Billy Idol is my favorite.

Given the looks of most of those guys compared to Sting I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that those yoga folks may be on to something.

Who considers Bowie an 80s rock star?

Indeed. And whose blood has David Bowie been drinking to stave off Father Time?

Phil Collins looked like he was 58 back in the 80's, too.

Barry Gibb appears to be morphing into the late Sam Kinison.

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2008-02-16 06:17:18 AM
Some of this pics are awful, so duh they don't look good. Also a lot of those guys weren't exactly that young in the 80s to begin with. Having said that, Lionel Richie has barely aged at all, Jon Bon Jovi still looks damn good, Bruce Hornsby is also aging remarkably well and Richard Marx? Please, for the love of God, grow another mullet. Oh and a couple of those guys should lay off the plastic surgery, I'm looking at your Kenny Rogers.

gbiewer 2008-02-16 07:20:01 AM
Is it just me or does Huey Lewis look like a skinny Drew Carey with those glasses?

Amadour1 2008-02-16 07:42:52 AM
Darryl Hall, David Bowie and Sting are all still pretty cute (okay, Daryl Hall is cute, Bowie and Sting are still HOT). But Rick Astley seems to be morphing into William Shatner.... I didn't expect this.

oddly enough, as ugly as David Bowie was in the 70s, his held up pretty well, all considering.

Holy FSM, John Oates looks scary. But that's fine with me, since I can't stand his music.

However, the decrease on the hittability scale of Robert Smith (pop, pop, pop!) makes Ophelia a sad snorkel.

I can't view the slideshow. Would somebody be kind enough to put the list up on here?

/ I wonder if Mark Knopfler is in there.
/ Or Peter Gabriel

Dear Jerk 2008-02-16 10:14:45 AM
That was not my 80s. I expected to see Bob Mould and the Replacements.

I've always thought that Robert Smith must hate being on the "where are they now?" things. He's still a musician with a huge band and a huge fanbase. AS much as I'm not a huge cure fan, every time I see that, I want to make a "Where are they now?" and do The Cure, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones. I might be tempted to do a second one with Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Curt Kobain, Brad Nowell, and Shannon Hoon.

Awesome idea - newsletter?
BTW, going to see The Cure in concert this June. If he had three eyes and no nose, I'd still like him.

What the hell happened to Peter Gabriel???

Bowie does look awesome still, though. Please don't make me turn in my man card for admitting that.

Hey, I was big in the 80s.

Bek: What the hell happened to Peter Gabriel???

He's 57. But the change is startling - loss of hair, Colonel Sanders goatee and he gained about 30 pounds.
Nevertheless he still looks healthy, wealthy and wise.

I thought Paul Young died a couple years back? If so,then he looks really good for a ghost.

dustbunnyboo [TotalFark] 2008-02-16 02:38:36 PM
Many of those were pop performers from the 1980's, not rock performers.
And Kenny Rogers? Country music except for a couple of songs.
Stupid list.
/Kenny Loggins still looks hot.

VickInABox 2008-02-16 02:51:38 PM
Seeing John Oates literally made me yell GAH! just now.

dustbunnyboo: Kenny Loggins still looks hot.

This.

Bruce Hornsby was never great-looking to begin with and to me he looks the same. Jon Bon Jovi's actually gotten BETTER looking. Still hate his music though.

Peter Gabriel can't be hanging with those old farts Mandela and Tutu and Carter and still go around looking like Rael, now can he?

Annnnd... his voice still sounds incredible. Seriously when I saw how he looked when he came back on the scene with UP (he has looked like he does now since its release in 2002) I too thought 'WTH??'. But then I saw a few concerts and was stunned by how great he still sounded. After that I decided I could give a shiat how these older artists look if they can still sound like Peter Gabriel does now. I just saw him in concert last year and he is still amazing.

Kenny Loggins needs to send me his exercise/diet regimen.

They're not hearing aids, they're in-ear monitors.

Clearly, he's eating other people since he looks younger now.

Peter Gabriel may be pushing 60, but I know guys half his age who wouldn't be on stage bouncing inside a ball, riding a bike, walking upside down on the ceiling or wearing a jacket that lights up and cooks you from the inside.

Roto-Rot 2008-02-16 07:48:13 PM
Keep in mind people, that's the Bizarro Hall & Oates (moustache switch).

The reverse mohican and a fox head mask would liven up some of those Amnesty meetings.

Even though he's 20+ years older than myself, I'd still hit Richard Marx like the fist of an angry God. Of course they didn't pick a great photo of him. I was at one of his shows a couple of weeks ago and he's looking great as ever, even if he has Walken eyes (that's a great quote, Ophelia's Snorkel. I'll have to tell my hubby that one).

/Yes, my user name says it all
/no, I'm not some crazy stalker... seriously, I promise ;)

Congratulations, Nelson - you get to wear the slipperman costume. And you, Bishop Tutu, get the batwing mask. President Carter, try this red dress on for size...

Slideshow of 30 29 top male rock stars from who performed in the 80's. Many of them have held up about as well as their music.

(The ability to count is also fun-damental and over half of the 29 had significant careers prior to the 80's. Cites available on request.)
