Six hotels ... are they on Boardwalk?
I always clean up if I can get hotels on Boardwalk.

"The acquisition of these buildings means a brighter future for people who will be able to have housing with support services to stabilize their lives and regain their independence," said Campbell.

The problem here is people need to be motivated to become independent, I'm not saying all homeless people lack in ambition but if you can have housing for free what else do you really have to worry about besides food.

So what do they do about the mentally ill?

The guy has people breaking into his office and pooping on his desk. What do you expect him to do?

I think we're past the farking point of motivation when they're living in the alley and eating garbage. These people are in crisis that your dumbass basic motivators have no effect on. But hey, if you can keep it simple for yourself, by all means do.

There are 4 main types of people that are homeless there:
a) Mentally ill
b) Drug addicted
c) Mentally ill and drug addicted
d) Homeless by choice, but they're not asking for anything from anyone anyway

The people who have homes, but give the homeless a bad name are:
a) People from Halifax who are motivated enough to move to Vancouver and pretend to be homeless for weekly protests (See Anti-Poverty Committee)
b) The handful of professional beggars that avoid real homeless people like the plague

The old Woodwards building was set aside for low income housing at one point before unscrupulous dickweeds turned it into condos fer a profit. This was a long time coming and a lot of people had to crap on an awful lot of desks to get even this far.

Found this interesting...

At the Vancouver news conference, Campbell also denied rumours the government has plans to redevelop the Riverview hospital site in Coquitlam

Riverview is the local boobyhatch and when it's residents were flushed out of there and onto the streets many moons back it led to an increase in homelessness, amongst other problems, that folk have been biatching about ever since. Recently a Vancouver police report came out which stated that roughly one in three police calls in the downtown eastside core were related to dealing with these ex-patients.

Have you kids met Gordon Campbell?

Gordon Campbell and the BC Liberals are dicks of the highest order.

They are willing to buy hotels for homeless people, give free needles and morphine to addicts and replace mouth pieces of crack pipes because it looks good.

Yet, parents of autistic children had to sue the BC gov. in federal court to get their children's therapy covered. We recieved only 1/3 of the actual cost ($20K out of the actual cost of $60K) and that drops to 6K out of the actual cost of $60K when the child turns 6.

Mr. Campbells government appealed the ruling numerous times and renigged on its agreement making familes have to get an enforcement order.

The man is a whore of the highest form.

By 'displeased' I mean a white hot intense unendurable heat similar to a pair of twin suns going supernovae simultaneously.

They give them important positions in the provincial government.

I think everyone should applaud their plan for sweeping the homeless under the rug in time for the Olympics helping the homeless.

This might cause protests? Hell, afternoon and evening rainshowers cause protests in Vancouver.

So, every day, yeah.

That's why I live in Surrey, where OUR homeless don't have activists -- they just take my clothing and food donations and steal enough cars per year to supply a small country.

andrewabc 2008-02-16 10:20:48 AM
Fart_Machine: So what do they do about the mentally ill?

Most homeless people are mentally ill.

It's nice to see the government getting all the homeless people off the streets in time for the Olympics. All those beggars would make them look bad.

cmb53208 2008-02-16 12:08:01 PM
I can see how a lot of this starts: a bunch of politicians sell out SRO's and the like so that developers can house yuppies in condos. And after manufacturing a homeless problem they buy up old SRO's to house the homeless. Gotta love government.

luckybastard 2008-02-16 12:32:11 PM
Don't do it, Vancouver. Don't do it!!
