Ok.

Would it be so bad to have a President that people actually, you know, "Liked"? Not being American I don't know, but I think us UKites have the monopoly on being perpetually jaded, we're better at it. It used to be nice to have an America around that actually liked itself, and I don't mean the horrible jingoistic weirdness, I mean the old-school positivity. We used to think that was kinda cool. Obama reminds me of that.

AaaPha: We used to think that was kinda cool. Obama reminds me of that.

I like him a lot for that reason. He inspires us to be what we say we are. To be proud to be American doesn't mean you have to think less of any other country. To be able to stand up and say I am an American, and have people feel that means you are going to try and bring out the best in everyone, including yourself.

I are serious Farker. This is serious question.

What has he actually accomplished? Is there any reason to think that he can get anything done besides talk pretty?

If there's anything the NRO should know about, it's personality cults.

ThatGuyGreg: What has he actually accomplished? Is there any reason to think that he can get anything done besides talk pretty?

Well, it's obvious you have never LOOKED for anything he's accomplished. Because the LAST time some douche asked this question, a quick Google search showed that he's introduced and sponsored dozens of bills, as both a state rep and a US senator. But, don't let facts get in the way of your hate.

I ain't buying into this "hope" shiat, and I sure as hell ain't voting for someone that I like or inspires me- that's all pussy feel good libtard shiat. I'm writing in Bush-Cheney in '08. If Obama makes me feel all inspired and hopeful (ghey!!1!) and he's not who I should vote for, then those that piss me off and make me feel depressed about the state of our nation must be the correct choice.

Bush-Cheney '08!

Whamdangler: Well, it's obvious you have never LOOKED for anything he's accomplished.

Nope. I did read the recent thread where he renamed a bunch of post offices, if that's what you're talking about. Getting things done at a state level doesn't make you presidential material, by the by.

Who said anything about hate? Or is this just repackaged "you're either with us, or agin' us"?

No, Krauthammer this time. Who I used to at least respect even if I disagreed with him. He's turned way too bitter and cynical since the cult of conservatism realized the kool-aid was poisoned.

If this is the best the critics have, they're really grasping at straws. If anyone had delusions of messianic grandeur it's Hillary.

Hillary's message is rooted in *I*. I will fix. I'm the most capable. Only I am the most prepared. I am uniquely qualified. I will deliver you. I will save you.

Barak's message is rooted in *we*. We are the agents of change. We are the solutions. We can restore our country's honor and greatness.

They're attacking the guy for being a hope monger. How cute of them.

If you believe so strongly in the policies of Bush and Cheney, why are you here screaming and putting your patriotic essence to such bad use? Why aren't you in a military uniform fighting for what you apparently believe in?

Are you a chickenhawk, a typical internet tough guy, or just lost?

The guy is likable, no doubt. Charisma is important, but it's not everything. Too bad his politics are so removed from what I want in the White House.

As far as his accomplishments, I personally don't think he has shown me enough that he is a good administrator, but I would say that about anyone that has been a Senator for such a short time. I would feel better with a 2 term governor, for instance.

If the standard for "presidential material" is set by doing things at a national level for a few years, then you won't complain when Dick Cheney is Raptured into office for a lifetime appointment with vice president Robert Byrd.

What is really interesting this time around is our choices are now down to basically 3: Obama, Clinton and McCain, all three only being a U.S. Senator. The last president to be elected and only have Senatorial experience as their main credential (not V.P. or Governor) was JFK.

The ironic twist here is that you've had a 2-term governor for president for the last 7 years. Meanwhile your short-term senators who became presidents made history in their times.

That pretty much sums it up for me, too. I don't dislike the guy at all. He's just further to the left in his politics than where I tend to vote and I don't think he has much experience with crafting policy.

As far as Obama is concerned. I for one welcome the hope for change in the future. Or the future change of hope. Or change of future hope. Or whatever the order of the words are today.

JFK was the last Senator to move into the Whitehouse, and that was a long time ago. It's mostly been governors since then (with varying degrees of success) but still, history kind of backs up what I am saying.

If I had to choose a person to go get a beer with, then Obama is my man. However for the highest office in the land? Not so much.

Now you're confused. Hillary's the one who would make you do that. Obama would work with the beer companies to make your beer more affordable and not mandate that you buy Budweiser instead of your favorite brand.

Compare him to these other two. Two deficit-spending warmongers who couldn't be bothered to read the classified National Intelligence Estimate before voting for war. #1 (Clinton) and #2 (McCain) in the Senate for lobbyist dollars received. Yeah.

If it's not Obama, I think we will get Bloomberg/Hagel to run, and you'd better believe I'm supporting them.

I think I would rather have to buy a bar a round of beer at twice the price then have the government messing with the brew companies. Having a politico telling a brew master how to make beer is like have a politico tell a doctor how to treat a patient.......oh wait, nevermind.

I find it funny that the same Right-wing Noise MachineTM that demands its followers and candidates fellate the specter of Reagan at every opportunity can have the audacity to call someone else's support a 'cult of personality'. Tsk, tsk.
