I'm pretty sure there's nothing American about the Final Countdown.

Me too. It may not have been a great song but it sure deeply covered a short span of history.

/oldest son wasn't taking his History class too seriously (failing) so I made him write a half page explanation on each of the references in the song before he got his cell phone back. He quickly figured out that it would have been better to do his homework in the first place...

"Greatest" is more for the actual song, and not the span of history and so forth. Besides, We Didn't Start The Fire really doesn't cover history, it just names stuff. A vast array of stuff, yes, but in all reality it's just The End of the World as We Know It without Leonard Bernstein.

Iron Maiden songs are historically accurate. Those are not lyrics, they are textbooks.

JosephFinn 2008-02-15 11:13:15 AM
"greatest"

Methinks you need to hie yourself to a dictionary and actually look up the definition; there's probably a subclause in the entry that says "shall not apply to Iron Maiden."

Unfortunately, this specific technique would require that I let my kid have a mobile phone in the first place.

Great link, nopokerface...some funny shiat there:

Piece Of Mind is a badass track that chronicles the true story of man's life and death struggle with dinosaurs, wooly mammoths and fire in caveman times

a ginormous robotic mummy that looks just like Eddie bursts onstage with huge multi-colored sparks exploding out of his eye sockets- a moment so awesome that to me, it ranks WAY above The Great Pyramids Of Giza on that bullshiat Seven Wonders Of The World list

Well, the Final Countdown album had "Cherokee", which also has ambulatory native americans.

I just can't take all this mamby-pamby boo-hooing about the bloody Indians! You won! Alright? You came in and you killed them and you took their land. That's what conquering nations do. It's what Caesar did and he's not going around saying "I came, I conquered, I feel *really* bad about it." The history of the world is not people making friends - you had better weapons and you massacred them. End of story.

/not a song, but it seemed appropriate.

What a shock another stupid ironing maiden link (didn't click the link, that is what post suggests). The only non pop music links that ever get to the main page are metalic washwomen, and lets face it thay are decent at best. Just once i want a buckethead or amon amrath link. I submit them, they never get accepted. How sad for me and my ears.

/runs to the hills, to avoid getting of this iron maiden filth on his viking metal gear

And inaccurate. Well over 90% of the Indians died from white men's diseases. Accidental at first and then official policy (see also: smallpox-laden blankets). Anyone who thinks a bunch of pasty-faced white boys who came over here 250 at a time in leaky boats and couldn't even feed themselves when they showed up beat a nation of 20 million Indians solely by force is suffering from some severe "My race have bigger koks than your race" disease.

This crap is a "fact", yet no one has a problem with the idea that our military NOW (with demonstratably better equipment and training) can't even secure the capital city in Iraq?

That's some fine logic there, Lou...

Lord Jeffrey Amherst's letters prove it happened. but then you of course knew that and were obviously showing tremendous witt and charm by joking that a shameful practice never happened.

There is proof of one blanket. Not the systemic distribution alleged by madwad. Of course you knew that, too. However, you lack my tremendous wit.
