Ah, but Hillary still has the mildly senile mayor of Oakland, California, Ron Dellums backing her.

John Lewis spent his youth campaigning for civil rights and on the eve of what could possibly be the first black President in the history of the United States, he is supporting an old frigid multi-millionaire white woman for the office? WTF? What a bizarro world we live in.

Don't forget that she is married to the first black president.

I'd say the voters in SC, GA, and LA nullified that one.

And he was implying Obama was a drug dealer a little over a month ago. Strange bedfellows indeed. But whatever, as long as Lewis' support doesn't *hurt* Obama, I don't care.

BWAHAHHAHAAA!

I love it!

Anyway I can't wait til the convention when Hillary gets the nomination.

Martin Luther King always said to support blacks in every venture no matter who is the best qualified.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will be given elections by the color of their skin not by the content of qualifications.

"Representing the wishes of your constituency": there's a novel idea. Suck on that, Hillary.

I expected that to be thing first thing I saw in this thread.

Okay, entirely neutral position here (as opposed to the many positions I'd like to be in with Hillary).

Hillary cannot beat McCain. It will not happen. For the good of her party, she needs to step aside and let Obama take the reigns. If Obama gets the nod (and I expect he will), he will beat McCain.

/Any hot pics of Hillary out there? Anyone?

As of yesterday he's changed his mind (see http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/15/us/politics/15clinton.html if you can). Not that I think he should just because Obama's black; I think he should because Obama's a better candidate.

Politicians who have exploited Black people for their own self interests & sold them a line that OMFG SYSTEMIC RACISM prevents them from achieving anything in life... they have everything to fear from a successful Black presidential candidate?

NO WAI!

Wai. If the status quo got you where you are today, you have everything to fear from a bright Obama tomorrow.

MCStymie I suppose that's an improvement? But if you want hot, female democrats, what about Gov. Granholm?

They sure took their time coming around.

However, there's a reason people like Al Sharpton, Charles Rangel, Jesse Jackson aren't beating the drums for Obama. If he gets elected, their stature as "black leaders" disappears overnight. Not to mention that their ability to rail against discrimination will be crippled. How can you complain about racism in a country where a black man is president?

Not so fast, Rep. Lewis may have already been bribed back into the light:

http://www.ajc.com/news/content/news/stories/2008/02/15/lewis_0215.html

A story in Friday New York Times that said U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) was going to back Barack Obama for president is inaccurate, a spokeswoman for the former civil rights leader told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution this morning.

Lewis press secretary Brenda Jones did not elaborate and did not immediately respond to a message asking for clarification.

Actually I think it has more to do with the fact they are political opportunists. They aren't going to back either candidate no matter how much they want to until one of them wins, then you can bet your ass they'll become their most vocal supporters and make it sound as if they supported that candidate from the beginning.

A small part of me also thinks Obama may have told them to stay the fark away from him so he can maintain his credibility as well, but who knows.

Actually, he didn't... the Times got it wrong, as did many others. He's since released a statement claiming that he hasn't switched sides.

Link (pops)

He is being very complimentary of BO, though. Might be some hope there in the future.
