When 'Jennifer Lopez' signed on to be Selena, she expected to be providing her own vocals. But it was felt that since the movie would be released so soon after Selena's death her fans would not approve of hearing any voice other than hers. So Lopez was coached to lip-sync instead of being provided the vocal coaching she expected.

So that at least confirms that she thought herself to be a singer as well as an actress before her first movie role.

I think that Tom Waits and her general bent towards artistry in her acting may actually make this project have a shot at anything other than suck (or at least fail). I believe there is a true distinction not only in talent but in character between her and the others on the list. Although to prove I may need to spend a night or two with each...with the excpetion of Paris...I'll claim a friend of mine did and he's farked payapas that were better.

Well, I don't think I can say that she's joining those ranks. They put out pop albums, whereas Scarlett is releasing an album of Tom Waits covers. They tried to promote their album with tours/live performances. Scarlett seems to be doing this on a lark.

Plus, Scarlett is teh hawt.

Making an album of superficial, generic pop is just par for the course for most popular actresses these days. Making an album of Tom Waits songs is a challenge, and one that you don't undertake unless you're seriously confident in your voice.

This is shameful, and the wrong gender for this discussion, but,

I actually purchased (paid for! not downloaded) the Robert Downey Jr. version of "Your Move" from his pretty damn good album.



Jon Anderson sings on the tune with him. It's *shudder* quite good, and not in a Shatner, so-hipster-it's-funny sort of way. It's a bit reworked, and it does homage without being a straightforward cover.

Recommended, seriously.
