Pretty much ;)

Most underrated voices in hip-hop.

ENJOY THIS EVERYONE (new window)

If I could have my own theme music, it'd be this scratch groove

Wow. All this time I thought they were cartoons and they turn out to be actual real live people.

Yeah, I remember reading awhile back about how they did the concert using projectors and stuff to make the holograms of the band. Very cool

I was referring to the music (not the De la Soul part, of course).

There's nothing wrong with the music I guess, but why the hell would you pay concert ticket prices to go see cartoons?

I don't like paying much more then 20 or 30 bucks for show even if it is a band I really love, I could only imagine what they are charging to watch TV with a couple of thousand strangers.

I remember hearing from one of my friends, that was way into the Gorillaz, that the band is band form "playing" the U.S. After the bannantion is over they plan on having a North American tour with holograms over 40 feet tall. I don't know how good his info was but his herb was superb. Would be a great concert if it ever happens.

I see your De La Soul and raise you Gorillaz with Ibrahim Ferrer (RIP) (new window)

Check out the Gorillaz: Live in Manchester/Harlem DVDs and you'll understand. It's a helluva lot more than just cartoons.

Puh 2008-02-13 05:23:24 PM
that was so cool! I really hope they go through with the Gorillaz movie they have been talking about.

Needed more Noodle, though....

Musion Systems - Creators of the Gorillaz Hologram. MTV Europe Awards marked the first live performance of Gorillaz, using the Musion Eyeliner System to beam three-dimensional holographic style performing cartoon characters on stage. Their appearance at the MTV Awards 2005 in Lisbon was billed as the 'world's first 3D hologram performance' and was one of the highlights.

As the world's most successful "virtual band", the human artists behind Gorillaz traditionally appear at live gigs as silhouettes on a giant screen combined with images of their cartoon alter egos.

Gorillaz has also announced plans to collaborate once again with Passion Pictures to produce a full live holographic tour for 2007-2008, or perhaps, a better description is that there may be several tours, since the members can be duplicated at will. Concert producers, take note.

Check out http://www.musion.co.uk for further information.

Pretty sweet, but the Live In Manchester concert is unbeatable.

Do the songs always sound EXACTLY like the album when they play live?

Madonna walking BEHIND Murdoc in that clip was a real mindfark at the time. Awesome use of the technology.

Except for Shaun Ryder's part in "DARE". His timing was WAY off. I think he was drunk.

Shaun Ryder? Under the influence of substances? No sir, not the Shaun Ryder I know.

Eh. I like both Gorillaz and De La Soul but that was meh. And all the camera shots through the clapping hands, yeah, we need more of that. (cough cough).

Yeah, he pretty much ruined the show.

Seems like the band "members" would be a little difficult to render in real-time were the musicians to tinker with the song live.

uncledeercamp: Yeah, he pretty much ruined the show.

He did considerably better at the Live in Harlem show. I'm guessing Damon Albarn pulled him aside after Manchester and told him that if he showed up to any more shows that shiatfaced he'd be replaced with bagpipes and a shrub.
