Has it been 20 years already? Holy crap.
First time I heard Cowboy Junkies was like an epiphany, and they're still at the top of my all-time favorites list.

CJ are not my kind of music, but I think they are great song writers.

Cowboy Junkies cover of Sweet Jane is one of the most awesome things ever. And the Trinity Sessions is an awesome album.

That album has been out for months here... why is this news again?

I'm partial to The Caution Horses, but as WhyteRaven74 says "Sweet Jane" is a freaking awesome cover.

In my worthless opinion, the only thing awesome about that cover is that they played the original version with the stupid bridge. And they kept the tempo and didn't speed it up like every other band. OK make that two things...

You had me at Cowboy Junkies, but lost me at Natalie Merchant and Ryan Adams.

I am more of a fan of Lay it Down. Common Disaster is genius.

I came here to biatch about how cover versions of great recordings don't seem to honor them very well, but then I listened to "Misguided Angel" again (thx Crocodile!) and mellowed the fark out.

Yay, "Trinity Sessions." Yay, opportunity to get more people to hear it.

/yay

Well, their version reintroduced the world to the "Heavenly wine and roses" bridge. It was cut out of the original version of "Loaded", against Lou Reed's wishes, and even he gave up on playing it in concert before then.

Right on! Once I saw the entire original lineup fall asleep live. It was in a small club too. Totally awesome.

Cowboy Junkies were in my store not too long ago (a few hours before the show). Since I do not appreciate their music much, or, had no memory of their faces at the time, I didn't realize it was them until they told me. D'oh!

Funny, I love the original album, but both Ryan Adams and Natalie Merchant make me want to rip my ears off and stick them into the bloody holes.

I remember playing Trinity Sessions, turning up the volume all the way up and still barely being able to hear what they were singing.

And I have 11.

came in here just to say that. I can't decide whether their version or the VU Live 1969 version is better.

I still can't listen to Loaded because those versions are far superior to the one on Loaded.

I'd rather go to the person who influenced them; Townes Van Zandt. Enjoy.

If you want to see where this was recorded, go to http://www.holytrinitytoronto.org/

You can actually walk in and visit just about anytime.

I actually used to work right beside that church (BTS) and sat out by the church all the time. If you are ever in the area, they sell great soup. No, I'm not kidding - they run a little cafe out the back of the church. Good times.

This might better illustrate Townes Van Zandt's influence on this particular band

What an over-rated band. They built their fame on other people's songs. Even their supposed ground-breaking interpretations of those songs weren't original. The Dream Syndicate, for one, had that slow, dreamy, female-voiced rhythm down in their song "Too Little, Too Late". Or, check out Opal's Happy Nightmare Baby, which was released in 1987, like The Trinity Sessions.

Even when the Junkies finally started recording their own compositions, they were no great shakes. Just another ordinary Canadian alt-country band.

This 20-year anniversary is just a pathetic attempt to cash in on their sole past glory - and an un-deserved one, at that.

My buddy, Skip Lunch (of the Treebirds, You me You, The Clamps), dated Natalie Merchant and introduced her to the 10,000 Maniacs. She turned on him and denies his existence. She has never acknowledged how she was introduced. It's probably because it would come out about her heavy drug use around that time. If you read the way *she* writes the story it is vastly different and filled with roses and butterflies. In real life it mainly had to do with hundreds of hits of acid. If you don't believe me I'd recommend you ask the musicians from around the Jamestown, NY area for confirmation. Eh, maybe it was filled with roses and butterflies...

What a criminally under-rated band.

It's a pity that the land of short-attention spans only considered them a hot property for such a brief period as they have evolved since then into something far more interesting.

//They also have an epic lead guitarist in Michael Timmons. The guy can rip it up with the best of them.

I have felt the urge to say it before, but the 20th anniversary of this CD makes it very real.....

Get off of my lawn.
