Axl Rose, please let it go. You outlived Kurt, you are the winner now live your life and stop pretending to be a rock star.

Q: Should you get in, any chance the band reunites for a one-off performance?

A: I don't know whether the circumstances will permit us wanting to get together and play, but it would be a whole different spirit-of-the-moment thing.

Nice. Not permitting them to get together but permitting them to feel any desire whatsoever.

I hope this does not get released. I lived through Appetite for
Destruction and both the Use Your Illusion albums; I liked the music
...LIKED it. But for some reason every station on TV
re-re-re-re-ran the videos every 5 minutes and every other story
seemed to be about that jackass Axl Rose. The last thing I feel
like watching is news clips run ad nauseum starring the bloated
stringy-haired 40 something version of a guy I could not stand when
in his prime.

i've heard some bootlegged stuff from Chinese Democracy and i sincerely hope that it never, ever gets released. G n' f'n R died after The Spaghetti Incident. Today's G n'R is some redheaded fat guy with dreads surrounded by a bunch of freaks

davynelson 2008-02-12 03:01:09 PM
why would anybody be anticipating anything but CRAP from any of these clowns?

first time I heard GNR I thought it was a joke, like some sort of Spinal Tap thing.

Listening to this shiate from the link, I have to ask, "Why bother?"

Go buy In The Future by Black Mountain.
All rock with 100% less cheese.

My guess on how this album will do, assuming it comes out, is that it will debut at #1, based on the few remaining GnR fans and curiousity. But it will plunge after that, and probably have to really struggle to make platinum.

I just started to listen to the 1st song in the link provided above...and not too bad. I have not heard anything from this before. And I don't really like Guns 'N Roses that much. I don't own any of the other records. And I was in high school when they were huge.

Martstar:

"Better" will likely be the first single - it sounds great here but supposedly Rose tinkered with it further, adding alot more synth - I heard this 'newer' version and it sounds worse, but the song in general is very good.

The first half of "There Was a Time" is a suckfest, but the second half is REALLY good. Unfortunately, Rose plans on removing most or all of Buckethead's contributions to the album. If he deletes Buckethead here, the song will tank. Thankfully I have this recording to enjoy because the final two/three minutes of "TWAT" is basically the best rock music I've heard in over a decade.

"The Blues" and "Madagascar" are great when you know what the lyrics are - casual listeners will not 'get it'. Good songs - expect one or both of them to be singles.

"Chinese Democracy" (the song) is good but not great. Tries to hard to rock out and doesn't quite get there.

"Oh My God" is a previous release, "Rhiad and the Bedouins", and "Silkworms" are experiments - all three will not be on the album.

"Catcher in the Rye" has been reworked heavily though nobody's heard a newer version than this - hope it gets better, lots of potential, but it suffers from the same shiatty first half / great second half thing.

With fourteen years to work on it, Rose has an advantage that most new artists have with a debut release - a 'lifetime' of material to put on that one album. In Rose's case he had over forty songs to make one album from - that usually makes for a great album.

Unfortunately, he went through personnel like crazy, over-tweaked and over-produced the songs to a ludicrous extreme, rebuilt the entire thing once again after finally settling on and touring with an 'acceptable' lineup (because he wanted those players on the album not just onstage), and is now wasting another year or two for good measure on god knows what.

The album will have some really great parts and some really shiatty parts for sure, but without Slash and with all the skepticism of 'fourteen years' it just can't win. Rose seems to be looking forward to the NEXT album or two as the real chance to redeem himself, which I think will just never happen without a 'reunion'.

The funny thing is that Velvet Revolver is in the same boat. The populace won't accept them without Rose - not to mention that Scott Weiland was a horrible choice.

The only winning move is to play together, or not to play.

I have a copy of what basically is Chinese Democracy from a source directly involved with the album.

I agree with those who feel no matter how good it is it will never live up to 14 years of anticipation. It also will never live up to the legacy of Appetite For Destruction.

It has some really good songs with some really killer parts but too long in length and some parts it sounds like he tries to hard to be "complex" and "artsy". With some of the filler and dead weight cut out, these songs could be awesome. The CD lacks these shorter and intense songs with the "hooks" that usually are the "hits" from an album.

I will say he is trying too hard to make every song a masterpiece instead of saying over produced. Some parts if mixed differently would sound better also.

It could be released today and do well but it is like a Queensryche album. With the complexity of the arrangements, it will take a few listens before you "get it" and start liking it. Appetite For Destruction was one of those albums where you lkove the songs the first time you hear them.

I think an Appetite era reunion is more likely now. I think Axl has buckled under the pressure, he can't write an album worthy of the wait. He is not Brian Wilson, this is not Smile, it will get scrapped for good. He will pay the label the millions he owes by taking Slash, Duff, Izzy, and Steven on tour.

You are assuming here that Axl's ego has shrunk to the point where he can do that. I still remember seeing them in concert and I doubt that's the case. He makes Gene Simmons look humble by comparison.

Fark Steven Adler, give me Matt Sorum any day. Adler is a junkie who screws up everything he touches. You think he could really complete a reunion tour without ODing?

Sadly, what you described is a failure. If it sells, it's to a completist or to a hardcore fan who may then burn copies for other fans not as superfan as to buy what has amounted to a lead singer's solo album. Chinese Democracy has no leg to stand on. There may be weight to the album as you describe, but it's dead weight. The market has shifted 2.5 times on MTV at least - grunge, hip hop, and now power pop again. We're at the Cheap Trick phase. And Cheap Trick wrote good tunes. Power pop is about to peak, and right now is when the cream will rise, or get thrown out. Chinese Democracy will get shuffled under the carpet.

Yea, I've been to one of those tours, good times. I know common sense doesn't apply to Axl, but the album has been done or mixing for ages now. He may never admit it, but the 15 year wait must be taking it's toll. He can either release ChiDem as a disappointment, or reunite the Appetite lineup for the reunion tour everyone has begged for the last decade. 15 years... I just can't help but start thinking of Smile.

The album will not sell anywhere near expectations. He has done 2 US tours where he has played ChiDem songs, I don't see much excitement about hearing these songs live when some of them have been played since 2002.

Correction: G n' f'n R died WITH The Spaghetti Incident. What a self-indulgent and bloated piece of poo that was! Much like Axl himself.

ZigThis 2008-02-13 10:22:37 AM
I think it will sell well because of the hype/curiosity factor, and because good singles like 'Better' and TWAT' will lure folks in, but it will not best either of the Illusion twins or come even close to Appetite. You can't work the same 20 songs for over a decade and not have it sound over-produced and 'artsy' (the synth-ed up revision of 'Better' is proof of this), plus there's too much criticism and doubt re Rose and the absence of Slash/Izzy/Duff for this to do well.

Cause Axl is crazy, he needs to get on some better meds and release the damn album, also he needs to let go of that NIN sounding guitar just ask slash to come back and lay down some good rock guitar on the tracks then release it a month later.

It would be the biggest album in the past 15 years easy.
