Hell yeah!

I'm not even a big Slayer fan but just the fact that there was actual music (beyond the classical) represented is a good thing.

BigSnatch [TotalFark] 2008-02-11 10:09:32 AM
rocinante721: Metal has its own category now. The other nominees were Machine Head, As I Lay Dying, King Diamond, and Shadows Fall.

It's much better than lumping Metal in Hard Rock (which the Foo Fighters won this year).

Was THE BAND actually honored last night (Lifetime Achievement) ?

upload.wikimedia.org

Did not see it, nor do I see any press on it. Though I know Levon & Robbie would be hard-pressed to get in the same room together.

BigSnatch: The other nominees were...King Diamond

King Diamond got a nod? Unholy shiate! I rememeber listening to Mercyful Fate (farking rocked!), Them, Abagail etc, but haven't listened to him in years.

Good for Slayer too! They are one kick ass metal band that hasn't sold out. They will be trashing til they pull their corpses off stage.

Crank it up! If your ears bleed...too bad!

Awesome. Love the new stuff, love the old stuff, own most of their albums and bought Soundtrack to the Apocalypse just for the hell of it. Christ Illusion and God Hates Us All were a little different, but they still manage to crank out awesome guitar tones. SLAYER!

Greatest thrash band EVAR...

Obviously one of my personal favs...

In other news, Alison Krauss lost Best Country Vocals to Carrie Underwood. Even a Grammy magnet like Krauss can't compete with American farking Idol.

/2008 was a poor year for bluegrass

Oops, I meant that to be in the other Grammy thread. Sorry bout that.

One of my favorite bands ever. I always thought I was into metal, but it turns out I was really just into Slayer. Most other bands that claim to be hardcore are pretty soft and lame.

King Diamond?!

I SERIOUSLY wished I had those last night...

Also; does anyone think King Diamond got popular and "cool" just because he was mentioned nine times in Clerks 2?

/Just wondering, still thinks the Jay and Randall scene where they're screaming KD lyrics at Elias is funnier than anything else Smith has ever done.

//Grrraannddmaaa what was it liiiiiike up on the holiday siiiiign..

Yeah, I was really WTF about the Foos being in that category. That's the only really heavy song off that album, save for arguably "Erase/Replace".

/best Foos album is their acoustic live one
//ESP&G wasn't that great
///Dave was best when drumming for Queens of the Stone Age
////They suck now

Jedekai: does anyone think King Diamond got popular and "cool" just because he was mentioned nine times in Clerks 2?

It could be responsible for his resurgence, but I was a fan during his Mercyful Fate days. 'Them' was a great album, same with 'Abagail'.

'Don't Break the Oath' is one of metals best albums ever.
Here's a sample.

For me it was his song in "Probot" as well as a glowing review from my metalhead buddy that got me to pick up "Don't Break the Oath" about a month ago (It rocks!). I've been informed that I should pick up Abagail as well.

Whatthefark 2008-02-11 03:03:47 PM
AFarkingTempest: I've been informed that I should pick up Abagail as well.

Abagail is an awesome album. It's a story about a couple and a stillborn child named Abagail.
If you do like Abagail, pick up 'Them'. It's about bizarre things happening at a house that is inhabited by 'Them'. 'Conspiracy' is part two of 'Them', but I don't remember much of that album. It came Perhaps someone else could give you their take on it.

Even if you don't get into the stories, musically they kick major ass. Andy LaRocque shreds throughout.

The fact that DOWN was not nominated further proves that these grammy voting idiots are just paid stooges of the RIAA et al.

oh well.

//DOWN - phil anselmo, pepper keenan, rex brown, kirk wildstein, jimmy bower

/// you want nothing in return...

He's also done a few guest spots on Metalocalypse, which may or may not have anything to do with it.

And as mentioned in a different thread, this is the second time (at least) that Slayer has won in this category.

SLAYER!!!!

i'm still bummed, i was rooting for Shadows Fall.
Still, this is a great song.

Exactly what did they win for? I wasn't aware Slayer (or any of the other nominees listed above) had any new stuff out recently?

Kodiak Attack 2008-02-11 05:08:04 PM
I would have voted for the new Machine Head album, as it's pretty much fantastic and the new Slayer is just so-so. However, I can't biatch too much as I grew up annoying my parents with Slayer, so I'm happy for 'em.

I thought it was cool that Tom Araya admitted backstage after the show that his guilty pleasures are country music and Elvis. He went up several rungs in my book after I heard that.

Seems like a cool guy with a fairly well-adjusted outlook on life. His wife has kind of a soccer mom thing going, too, which is not at all what expected.

Nah. Most devout Catholics could think of stuff that would make Glenn Barton piss his poser pants.

Catholic I'm not so sure about, but I have heard from many sources that he is practicing Christian of some sort. This put him up a few notches in my book not because of his Christianity but because he does all this in addition to being Christian and being able to keep his personal beliefs from degrading Slayer's creative process lyrically and musically. I read somewhere that someone asked him about the album "God Hates us All" he said that "...God doesn't hate, but it's a hell of a farking title."

/That's all I came here to say.
