Congrats, subby. It's your big day.

'Lt. Roesler said the main problem on the roads is that "visibility is down to zero." The road conditions are bad enough, but drivers are not able to see what's in front of them.'

Like that's going to slow down anybody in Western Michigan.

And here I am... biatching to the sky about folks who can't stop before the white line at an stop sign.

Saw on CNN how bad the weather was in W. Mich. Even being from Northern Michigan I was like "Woah."

In Alabama, that is called Talladega

Bucky Katt [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 10:45:09 PM
FTFA: One fire truck was also involved in the pile-up.

I hope there's video!

Amatuers! 2000 cars were trapped on 90/39 outside of Madison, WI for awhile on Wednesday when two semis got stuck after we got nearly two feet of snow...

That was insane, I saw that on the news ... and experienced the prequel driving from Minneapolis to Chicago through rain, snow, and hail on Monday prior to that Wednesday SNAFU.

/Seriously needs to get out of the northern Midwest right now.

Subby, and the whole thread, fail for not mentioning The Blues Brothers, which is mandatory for any pile-up thread.

ya, the weather really sucked here. a high of 1* with most the day being in sub zero temps. it was made all the better by having to work out in this crap for about 2 1/2hrs.

glad i stayed off the main roads this afternoon.

Yeah, but getting stuck in Michigan is WAY WORSE than getting stuck in Wisconsin.

This always seems to happen on I-96. Never on any other road in Michigan.

Shiftless 2008-02-10 11:08:17 PM
Soft, comfy snow and soft, pillowy airbags will certainly neutralize a 65 MPH impact, right?

Crash happened after these words were heard on the CB radio; "Boogity! Boogity! Boogity! Let's go racin' boys!" DW wanted for questioning!

Cmon snowday. Already had 2 in the past 2 weeks here at Ferris.

I am always amazed at how many people venture out on the roads in the middle of a blizzard, 10 below, with none of the roads plowed. Some are suckers like me who have to go to into work on a Sunday night. But driving into work I see tons of cars on the road, pulling into White Castles, McDonalds, and party stores. Can't people stay home just one night and cook themselves a meal and watch TV? I think some people (like a friend of mine) consider it a "challenge" to go out in their car in the middle of a snowstorm.

Apparently, there's also a pile-up on I-196 on the way to Holland, and a multi-vehicle accident on US 131 near Schoolcraft. So, it's not just I-96...

Yep, I'm not going anywhere tonight.

It's like their trolling to get rear ended and the subsequent insurance payouts. Crazy driving weather to be out in for a Sunday evening.

Just saw the TV coverage a few minutes ago... They alluded to that. Said that there's something about the location and elevation and resulting wind funneling that more easily leads to whiteout conditions in that area.

Yet another reason not to live near Coopersville. ...Not that GR is any great place. But still.

Living in Traverse City, I can say today was a 9.2 out of 10 on the brutally sucky it's cold meter.

Dear Michigan: The correct term is a "Hollywood stop."

Thank you, California.

I suppose a 10 on that scale for you would be International Falls, MN where it currently -24°F. I'll take my -4 over that.

How many times can you use the word pile-up in one article?

that's not true. this sort of shiat happens regularly down here on I-94, between New Buffalo and Benton Harbor or so. seems like every year there a 100 car pileup over there.

West Michigan has plenty of white people. It's always a whiteout there.

cubic_spleen 2008-02-10 11:33:18 PM
I was out driving in that crap today. Westbound into the wind was some of the scariest driving of my life.

Welcome to West Michigan. Our weather can beat up your weather.

I'm in michigan, i have about a foot of solid ice blocking my door, had to go to the store today by going out the window. Wind chill is like -18 atm.

FTFA: A three-car crash quickly evolved into a 50+ car pileup when whiteout conditions hit eastbound I-96 near Coopersville Sunday afternoon.

I blame global warming.

-11 wind chill in my little corner of Michigan. Haven't left the house all day.

vodka 2008-02-10 11:55:04 PM
Is it the lack of killer bees and fire ants that make people want to live in that shiat?

yotta 2008-02-10 11:56:11 PM
Coincidentally, last week was the 30th anniversary of the Blizzard of '78 here in the northeast. Three states were shut down for a week.

Over 3,500 cars were found abandoned and buried in the middle of roads during the clean-up effort. (In Massachusetts (new window).)

Lloydminster, Alberta
Current Wind Chill: -35°C

It's been down around -45 to -50 with the windchill a few times.

Average is what, I dunno -40 with the windchill.

Anytime you feel like growing a pair feel free to move up here and let em dangle, we'll see how quickly you start to beg to go back to nice warm Michigan.

Sturgis area here. Weather sucks today. Last month we had a 60 degree day, the next day it was like 4. I hate this shiat.

Wind Chill is between -20 and -30. Southcentral MI. Desperately need to dump recyclables, take out trash, and get a minimum of supplies, but will wait until tomorrow.

This sucks ass
