Parvo is usually fatal.

That really sucks.

Why must even the Puppy Bowl make me cry?

/shakes angry fist at imaginary god

MasterThief [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 06:48:04 PM
It wasn't the one on Animal Planet. But still sad. Parvo is a horrible way for a dog to die.

GoDawgs! [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 06:49:49 PM
That does suck. I had a coonhound puppy we got from a breeder die of parvo a week and a half after we adopted her. Watching an animal basically dehydrate to death is torturous. A year later I got another coonhound puppy but from a rescue. He's gone from this

Give em to the Koreans, high cooking temp kills parvo.

This little girl had the parvo too. I took a 'flavor injector Link (new window)' and forced water and gatorade down her throat. It was a ruff time, she lived and is the most spoiled dog ever!

I'm sure Tom "Man Slut" Brady went into his game with some sort of virus.

ricodued 2008-02-10 09:05:42 PM
At first I thought that said "pavlovirus."

Weird how the mind does that.

BasqueBastard 2008-02-10 09:07:45 PM
I didn't know eating poop passes Parvo.

blkhwk86 2008-02-10 09:08:00 PM
I started laughing as soon as i saw the headline. I'm sure the Patriots would have liked to get some virus at the superbowl or before to blame it on that.

generaltimmy 2008-02-10 09:08:35 PM
Trademark infringement..that is what happens when you do it!

tripperday 2008-02-10 09:09:01 PM
I guess even if the Patriots had played the Packers, someone would have said "No, they got Farvovirus!" before I did.

This is my pal Fritz. He was a rescue dog.

home.nycap.rr.com

He died yesterday at the age of 15, with me holding him in his favorite blanket (part of which he's wearing in the picture).

He sort of held a record, because that's really old for a badger hound.

He gave me kisses, and just went to sleep.

Beatlefreak [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 09:12:24 PM
Made me go hug my dog. Wouldn't have survived some of the health problems I have without her.

Its sad to hear about puppy death, but at least maybe next year there won't be puppybowl.

I just came in here to say the the puppy bowl is the complete and awesome bomb.

/Kitten halftime show needs work.
//Still worth it.

I got a puppy from the pound some years ago that died of parvo soon after I got him home. His name was Peabody.

Very sad thing.

Dude, that sucks. I'm sorry for your loss. But at least you can know you gave him a long, happy life.

Gosling [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 09:16:35 PM
And that is why the Puppy Bowl is a shell of what it once stood for. All that puppy-growth hormone.

Aren't you supposed to put them to sleep before they die from horrible illnesses like that?

Is sad now

phillydrifter 2008-02-10 09:18:26 PM
Ah that's a shame, cuz I had a puppy who died of parvo so i'm really getting a kick they either die a horrible slow painful death or you put them down but either way, they lose.

So sorry man- I nearly lost my dog a few months ago from liver problems, and cried for a week. He lived a really long life, and at least he passed away at peace.

/i really did have a puppy who died 2 weeks after we got him
//the refund wasn't nearly as cute as the puppy

We had one of the lucky one that survived. Now he's grown fat and barks at the neighbors.

That's horrible! My puppy was lucky enough to survive. It's the most evil disease. She just smelled... sick. :(
Hope these little guys can make it.

Good news is this has NOTHING to do with the Animal Planet Puppy Bowl... Those were all show dogs.

I'm not crying. I just have something in my eye. Losing a pet always sucks. It's like losing something between a sibling, and a limb.

I am so sad for you...Please don't let anyone else tell you how to feel/behave/act. Being a pet parent is something not everyone understands. Take time to grieve, sounds like you were a good pop and he went gently.

One of my aunt and uncle's pugs had parvo when he was a puppy. Fortunately, he pulled through, and lives on to be a happy and goofy old porker. I love that dog!

I hope these little guys get through this!

I noticed that too when I was reading about the game after the fact. There must be some kinda weird Pats/Giants shiat I'm not privy to at all or something.

Workemon 2008-02-10 09:30:55 PM
Uhhhggg... I took in a dog from my ass hat co-worker who decided that after one day a dog was too much work. After the first night at our house he started vomitting, pooping all over, etc... Parvo.
Long story short, it cost us 2128.00 dollars.

GET THE VACCINATION! 45.00 bones ain't nothing.

I'll second that. Pets give you something that people can't... unconditional love.

Perhaps they should introduce bears to the halftime show.

Very, very, very hungry bears.

That'd make it interesting.

Parvo is serious shiat. Very often fatal, as The Onanist said. It was rare, but in the vet hospital I used to work at we saw it sometimes. Our Parvo procedures were as close to biohazard standards as we could achieve, and we luckily never had any cross-contamination.

Dogs with parvo have a very particular, very foul smell. It's an instant tip off, and a pretty easy diagnosis. There's also massive gastrointestinal upset, think scat fetishist with super soaker, and a few pints of blood for good measure. It generally can kill within days, even with medical care. Sometimes, some dogs can make it, but young puppies are enormously susceptible.

What I want to know is how young the puppies participating were. I didn't watch it, so I don't know. Also, I'm wondering if vaccination records weren't fudged to get puppies in who shouldn't have been there.

The moral of the story is to always vaccinate, and to limit puppies' exposure to other dogs until after the full set of vaccinations.

As much as I love my pets, I couldnt spend that kinda money on them. Thats almost 10% of my gross income for 2007.
