I guess I better take the monopod in my truck off the gun rack.

Well I better stop carrying my sticks around than. Damn, and I thought steady shots were important.

Though the tales I've heard about pressers and photog fights one would wonder if this professor was on to something.

In other news, Canada will pass a nation-wide ban on sticks.

Blame his "camouflage". If it had been working, they wouldn't have seen him.

I'm a tripod, and I'm really getting a kick out of some of these replies.

well, my tripod looks more like a turbolaser from star wars than a shotgun, but i can see how it could scare people.

/ especially in areas with a lot of UFO sightings

That there looks to me like one of them 50 caliber tripods.

Stupidity is contagious. Also, what doesn't cause a lockdown these days?

So the question remains, will the guy with the tripod be charged with "gun hoax" like they do with people who leave innocent objects where some idiot thinks it's a bomb?

Jeff_from_MD 2008-02-10 07:47:13 PM
This doesn't change a thing! Canada's strict gun control laws don't work! Let's tell them what they're doing wrong again!

I just bought a set of metal spikes for my tripod. I live in the city where police assume people taking pictures are criminals (link 3284897). How much money should I set aside for bail?

I never experienced a "lockdown" in K-GradSchool. I thought lockdowns were something that happened in prisons. When did schools officially become prisons?

Yes, America is at an end because a Canadian professor at a Canadian college can't tell that a Canadian student is carrying a tripod.

/or maybe its at an end because people can't tell America from Canada.

My school went into lockdown because a helicopter was flying overhead. I could see the news station logo on it when I looked out the window. They were reporting on an accident that shutdown a nearby highway.

Around 1990. Prior to that they were future taxpayer indoctrination centers.

What a waste of breath and bandwidth. If there had been an incident and it was shown that a group of people had seen the person and assumed it was a tripod, not calling in the potential threat, this weather vane's blog post would go along the lines of:

This got me thinking. Why did they professor think a reaction was warranted? Do we need be so bloody self-conscious of looking foolish/suspicious/paranoid as to not call in the police when a student is clearly seen with a "long, tubular object" that could very well turn out to be a gun -- not a tripod, or a document tube. Christ. Hasn't anyone seen Terminator 2? Guns comes in many different shapes and sizes!
