Awesome.

The Telegraph has the worlds best obituaries.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 10:46:35 AM
"You're a Yank," said a British voice.

"Never," came Fawcett's lilting southern burr, "confuse a Virginian with a Yankee."

LOL. That gentleman truly grabbed ahold of this world and got everything he could out of life. Well done, sir.

Dinki [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 10:48:17 AM
Now THAT is a life. We should all be so lucky... and brave.

Sounds like he packed more life into any random year than most people do in a lifetime.

Well done sir. RIP, you've earned it.

Gwendolyn [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 12:01:56 PM
when he was 15 Fawcett had started an affair with his best friend's mother. "If that's child molestation," he declared, "I would wish this curse on every young boy."

HA!

I was going to quote that Yankee line but it was taken. This guy was AWESOME.

Gwendolyn [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 12:05:26 PM
In three months at the end of the war, Fawcett married six Jewish women who had been trapped in concentration camps, a procedure that entitled them to leave France with an automatic American visa.

Ohhhh ok

"Last December 13th, there appeared in the newspapers the juiciest, spiciest, raciest obituary it has ever been my pleasure to read. It was that of a lady named Alma Mahler Gropius Werfel, who had, in her lifetime, managed to acquire as lovers practically all of the top creative men in central Europe. And, among these lovers, who were listed in the obituary, by the way, which is what made it so interesting, there were three whom she went so far as to marry: One of the leading composers of the day, Gustav Mahler, composer of Das Lied von der Erde and other light classics; one of the leading architects, Walter Gropius, of the Bauhaus school of design; and one of the leading writers, Franz Werfel, author of the Song of Bernadette and other masterpieces.

It's people like that who make you realize how little you've accomplished. It is a sobering thought, for example, that when Mozart was my age, he had been dead for two years!

It seemed to me, on reading this obituary, that the story of Alma was the stuff of which ballads should be made, so here is one:"

-- Tom Lehrer's introduction to his song, "Alma"

Seriously, what a great life. Granted the man was lucky as hell but still, he lived and lived well.

Makes it even sadder to watch people who's lives are working and sit ting on their couches in front of the TV and for decades. Life is short, go live it.

/As a fellow Virginian, I love that line
//seriously would have loved that curse as a 16yo, hmmm MILF

GaryPDX: I grabbed that classic nugget too. If only more people had his audacity.

I don't know if this is apocryphal or not, but a friend told me a story of a NY lawyer who was pulled over for speeding in Georgia.

When the trooper told them: "Sir, no one moves that fast through my county." the lawyer replied: "Sherman did."

They spent the night in the local jail.

The angels are going to have to update their wardrobe, they don't make togas or robes big enough to cover those balls.
