The story of Mankind:

Human 1: hey we're wrecking things
Human 2: haha your doing it too
Human 1: I know that's what...
Human 2: pwned

The End

-1 subby. Berke Breathed is a saint beyond criticism.

Subby not sunny. Damn typos.

/preview is my friend.

ScreamingInDigital 2008-02-10 10:08:19 AM
With "Opus" he's more than once repeated old jokes almost verbatim from both those strips and the lack of effort shows.

He should have stopped with Outland.

Or better yet, never ended Bloom County. Unless of course it would've evolved into this crap in which case, thanks for ending it before it did.

-1 subby.
He didn't say that setting up gear is the most stressful nor the most important.
It is a pain to normal people.

Opus rules.

AlphaNumericus 2008-02-10 10:09:16 AM
Wow, he's still alive? I thought Opus was from the 60s...

Bad_ad85 2008-02-10 10:10:33 AM
Why did a comic strip get greenlit?

Fuggin Bizzy 2008-02-10 10:10:45 AM
There's a TV commercial for [big box retailer] that says something about HD being a snap with [their service] to set it up for you. How farking hard can it possibly be? We're not talking about replacing the transaxle on a car here.

When I complain about it, my wife reminds me I'm a computer programmer, and therefore not one of this store's typical customers.

Still...

Confabulat [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 10:11:20 AM
"Opus" has turned out to be the most disappointed comic strip I can remember.

He doesn't even try. Binkley was in high school back when the strip started, but he just conveniently forgot that, and added him anyway.

MIguy [TotalFark] 2008-02-10 10:11:31 AM
Hey Berke, if you're going to keep doing a strip, how about bringing back all of the Bloom County characters?

Trozdor 2008-02-10 10:11:43 AM
Subby has lost all perspective on what "normal" (HAH!) people find funny.

Fantasizing about chicks, check.
Laid out on the floor, check.
In front of bigass TV, check.
Having difficulty with current technology, check.

Sounds like a typical day for most of us.

/I'm sure there's bottles of beer or booze behind the TV or just out frame

Tommy Moo 2008-02-10 10:12:41 AM
Wow... I read that as "Ben Bernanke" and was like WTF?! I scoured the cartoon three times for some obtuse economic metaphor.

I'm sorry, exactly what part of this is current?

Also, I understand why he is stressed about that. I put my LCD up and connected my computer, a 5.1 surround system, dvd player, xbox, PS2, and a Wii. If I was too dumb to connect it, I would feel pretty bad about myself.

However, I do wish there was a way to eliminate some of the cables... thing looks the vines from a damn jungle back there until you spend 20 minutes with zip ties.

It really isn't that hard. The cables all line up nicely, usually in perfectly sensible grouping, and most with multiple cables are color coded. There are about 9 different kinds of connections, but the only ones that would be even mildly confusing - component versus composite are red white yellow and red blue green respectively. So, unless you were color blind, it's cake, otherwise that could potentially be horribly frustrating.

BB was coerced into creating Opus-oriented comic by his editors. He should never have taken out the Bloom County Picayune, the harried editor, Milo, or the other characters that allowed him to make pointed political commentary and witty or snide suggestions. Without these, he lost perspective on Bloom County and the comic has never been nearly as good since.

Geez, I thought Breathed might have a chance at producing something of quality now that he only has to squeeze out a strip once a week, but obviously I was wrong...

My husband couldn't get sound out of the stereo speakers from the TV and acted like I'd asked him to perform open heart surgery when I told him just to unplug them from one device and into another. I once found him holding a patch cord, looking at it like it was a creature from outer space. I try to take care of things before I find the cable box connected to the stereo cassette player which then has been connected to the DVD player.

Shenanigans. In this day and age, no self-respecting technologist would acknowledge the existence of composite, or even component connections.

Holy fark. I can't believe people still think that they're among the technologically elite because they know the difference between component and composite.

I think he copes better with technology such as rocks and sticks. We're still working on fire, though, there's still extinguisher residue on everything in the kitchen from last night.

Not a programmer, but I do some tech support at a university library, you would really, really be surprised at how easy it is to trip up the average person.

The second they see something out of the ordinary, they pick up the phone and call. I'm guessing pretty much none of them could connect a new HDTV, even if their life depended on it.

Losing perspective over what people get stressed About? Subby needs to do one day of 'repair' calls for his local cable service provider for -just one day- , and then he'll be qualified as 'Having a @$% clue' On the subject of people buying technology which is smarter than they are.

Oh, look at this fancy pants with his HDMI connections and S/PDIF outputs. I guess DVD is too simplistic for you, what with the component outputs that look the same as the 5% of the players on the market that DO have HDMI. If it's analog, it's CRAP!

Speaking as probably one of the poorest Farkers on here, if this sort of thing stresses you out, you are just like Berke Breathed.

Clueless.

Do you know how difficult it is to stay online and my TotalFark account, without actually having any discerable means of income?

Whew.
