Sadly, I saw this on my local news channel earlier this week. Fark used to be where I got my news first. Ahh, the good ole days :)

Seriously though, there's no way I'd let that thing poke at my car to find the gas tank.

So they don't let you smoke or talk on a cell phone, but I'm supposed to let some electric powered test run poke at my car?

Yeah. I don't think I'll be comfortable with this unless the robots have incomprehensible accents, listen to loud punjabi music, and give me $50 worth when I ask for 15.

/would rather go across the border to NY and pump my own

This.

Anyway, Skynet is way overdue for becoming self-aware, and I don't want to give it any extra opportunities.

Even Newer Hotness: People stealing $100,000 robots that dumbasses leave outside. I know I'd want one, just the part at the end with the sensor package and wrist would kick ass.

Because gas stations will buy $100,000 robots that will break down and be expensive to maintain so that they have to just to pump gas when people will do it for free...

Worst. Invention. Ever.

Subby must never have visited either. Just TRY to pump your own gas in OR and people their farking mind it seems. Reminds me of the WA/OR across-the-river rub that stated "we'll take you more seriously when you learn to pump your own damn gas".

The Japanese are waaaay ahead of us in robot technology. They are using it for good instead of laziness.

studebaker hoch 2008-02-09 09:51:48 PM
How long before someone steps between the car and the robot and gets 10 gallons of unleaded injected into their leg?

SpacePunk 2008-02-09 09:52:48 PM
Just putting gas in a tank isn't full service.

OMGlookatthat_HUGE_P_HOLE 2008-02-09 09:54:10 PM
This is great news(NOT) I already have hell gassing my truck up because of the vapor recovery systems(it's about like striking a FOX viewing position). Now I get to let a robot do it, fail because of the vapor recov system, then let Julio come over and do it. Maco is going to make some serious cash off of this.

So long as they don't congregate outside Home Depot every morning, rusting & staining the ground they stand on, I'll be ambivalent.

MonkeyBoy666 2008-02-09 09:56:58 PM
rajuncajun1369: pretty sure that is not how it works

That's how it works in every state that doesn't have ridiculous laws preventing normal people from pumping gas.

What happens in the retarded states which legislate such things is none of my concern, so long as I don't pay for your idiocy (of course).

At least in Oregon, the law still forces the gas station attendant to pump your gas. Just don't ask him to "do" your windshield, though. That's only asking for trouble.

Uh, Full Service includes checking the oil, cleaning the windows and kicking the stem on the tire and telling the guy he has a slow leak in his tire. The service manager will then replace the stem, clean the tire and charge him for a matching used tire he just 'happens to have'.

Worked in a full serve for about two months. Off of I-57 in the middle of nowhere Illinois. Never did the above but was suppose to encourage work for the bubba drunks in the back.

They've been predicting these are right around the corner for 20 years now. I'll believe it just as soon as I see it refuel my flying car while I listen to Chinese Democracy as I think of getting home to play Duke Nukem Forever.

I've considered 'on the road' fueling for trucks and such. Kind of an 'in flight' refuelling for the road.
