I am perfectly content with Hillary forfeiting a debate. Who's next? Come on, networks! Let the insulting innuendo fly! Why doesn't CNN just call Chelsea a fish-mouthed ginger puppet who epitomizes the horrifying result of zealous over-ambitious carpetbagger parents with cartilage for spines and who think 'ethics' is an English county with a lisp?

Jubeebee 2008-02-09 09:55:52 AM
So a week ago, when she's strapped for cash, she wants 4 debates in 4 weeks. Because no matter how badly and how often she gets beaten in debates, it's free air time.

Now she has money from a bunch of feminist retirees because they set up coin-fed donation booths in the left lane that only take exact change, so she wants to stay as far from debates as possible.

It's shady, but it makes sense. Par for the course.

hillbillypharmacist [TotalFark] 2008-02-09 09:56:42 AM
Shoot, I thought Obama wasn't that great of a debater- his policy of cleaning out the lobbyists and philosophy of finding common ground with Republicans are what made the difference.

Now, when it comes to speechifying, Obama's got her beat all kinds of ways.

Dinki [TotalFark] 2008-02-09 09:57:01 AM
Good for her. Some people think that anyone can say anything about the Clintons and they will just have to sit back and take it. If Schuster had said the same thing about McCain or Obama or Huckabee people would be up in arms.

The article states that Obama supported Hillary on this, saying that the comments had no place in political debate.

So I guess the next time someone says anything out of line against Obama or anyone in his family, Hillary will fully support Obama?

Guess not.

Obama has principles, ethics, and class. The Clintons have the opposite of those things.

Which makes watching Clinton self-immolate all the more amusing. The more she tries to drag Obama down to their level, the better Obama looks and the worse she looks.

The best comparison I read was one before Super Tuesday where they said Hillary was running her campaign with the political style of the 90s, whilst Obama's campaign was running a "2000s" campaign. She really is looking backward.

I've been disappointed in the NYT. Usually, their strong reporting and good writing shines... but, like, for instance, during Super Tuesday, their front page lineup of states with returns had all the states that Hillary was winning, but half the ones Obama was winning. At a glance, it looked like Hillary was winning big.

I know they endorse Hillary, but really, at least make it not screamingly obvious.

There are people here that are saying she won't debate Obama.

She accepted a debate at, of all places, FOX - a network not known for their love of the Clintons. Obama, so far, has not accepted.

Isn't there enough to say about these two without making shiat up?

Who's making shiat up? Hillary wants to debate at a propaganda network but not a real network that said something that might sound bad in the wrong light?

SpinStopper: Cannot run out of time. There is infinite time. You, are finite. Zathras is finite ... Hillary is just a tool ;)

Hillary is like Mr. Morden. Only without the charm. I can see bill clinton as Londo Molari tho.

All that aside, Hillary is getting desperate. she's losing ground and having to loan her own campaign money. When she started this race, she had an 'unbeatable' warchest, a lock on all the votes and all the 'smart people' were on her side. By this point in the race, she was supposed to be fund raising for the general election and accepting resumes for running mates. she was NOT supposed to be locked into a fight to the death struggle against Obama!

Hillary is getting desperate. She's now using her daughter as a pawn in her political/public relations campaign. Just goes to show that Hillary will do/say anything if it gains her even a small advantage over her opponents.

T-Servo: If Limbaugh and Coulter are shilling for Clinton, I'd say she might have the advantage on Fox.

They just want her to get the nomination because they think a woman, any woman, doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting the presidency. They may be right if TFers are any indication of the maturity level of the voters...

Daneel Olivaw 2008-02-09 01:12:11 PM
CheetahOlivetti: But she'll debate on Fox News?

But Obama wont. To me, it says much about a major political parties contenders when they say how much they would like to talk to Iran/N. Korea/Cuba, but wont take questions from Brit Hume, or Chris Wallace in a debate. As a firmly undecided Democratic voter in Ohio, I find the stance(no debating of Fox) by the Democratic candidates on this issue to be cowardly in the extreme.

The R's have shamed the D's by their debates on the left leaning networks (CNN, MSNBC). Face it, if the R's refused to debate on the left leaning channels they would be excoriated as the sniveling cowards that they would so richly deserve to be labeled as. How much different when the R is changed to a D, and the same equation happens?

Sorry (well not really) fellow D's, I'm not a partisan on this issue. I'd hate to think that the party of Kennedy, FDR, Truman, is now blatantly servile to some worthless website(s), or that they're scared of goofy journalists. This is akin to the same stupidity of Bush 41 having a hissy fit with Dan Rather, it was wrong then, this current stance is wrong now. Then, is was one man and his personal shortcomings. Now, it's a policy of craven timidity (yeah I'm looking at you, Obama). I'm not happy about defending Clinton on this issue (or throwing the D's under the bus).

cameroncrazy1984: Hillary wants to debate at a propaganda network but not a real network that said something that might sound bad in the wrong light?

ALL the networks have their bias (propaganda if you like). There are no saints, just varying degrees of sinners.

Subby: Yeah, it's not at all because Barack is cleaning her clock in face-to-face debates, no, not that at all

I'm pretty sure most election observers have been saying Clinton is the better debater, and Obama 'wins' a debate when he is able to merely hold his own because his expectations are lower. Obama crushes her on stump speeches. So she should be happy to debate everyday, if only for the fact that it would keep Obama from packing an 18,000 seat arena that night. I voted for Obama (in Utah), but headline is simply flat-out wrong.

pwhp_67: They just want her to get the nomination because they think a woman, any woman, doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting the presidency.

Wait, are you saying I'm making shiat about Limbaugh and Coulter? I agree that they're preying upon sexism (although the fact that she's a Clinton helps enormously) and are both complete asses. And I think Obama doesn't do quite as well in debates as Hillary.

That said, I am curious why she's turning to Fox after earlier agreeing not to.

Going back to the Digital TV thread a little bit back, a bunch of us don't intend to pay $700 a year (what it is here after taxes) for basic cable. Put the damn debates on PBS!
