My 92-year-old grandmother is voting Democrat for the first time in her life because, she says, McCain is too old.

When someone who remembers horse-drawn buggies tells you a candidate is too old, either he's too old, or the end of the world is at hand. Possibly both, since my Southern grandmother is also voting for Obama, because she doesn't trust Bill & Hillary again.

See you at the Second Coming.

big_pth [TotalFark] 2008-02-08 10:48:16 PM
If you want to vote for Obama just because he is black, or Hillary because she is a woman, then you don't deserve a vote. I support Obama because he is not a paid for tool of the DC lobby/money machine. Not that he is not capable of it, it's just that he hasn't been in DC long enough to be corrupted. Give him another term and I don't know if I would vote for him.

JimmyFartpants 2008-02-08 10:55:51 PM
Well I won't vote for Hillary under any circumstance. I'm planning on voting for Obama, but if Hillary gets the nomination, it's all McCain.

We need to break this ugly & corrupt family dynasty Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton cycle.

I'm posting from my iPod or I'd provide links, but polls have been saying this for nearly a year. This was before Giulliani and Romney and Thompson and Edwards and whoever the fark else dropped out, and Obama basically was the only Democrat in the polls who could beat any Republican nominated. I don't know how the Hillary campaign has perpetuated the myth the only she can beat McCain -- it simply is an ubsunstantiable claim.

Of course he does. He has made the point over and over again - you don't beat McCain on the war by being sort of like him. No Dem will win a Commander in Chief argument with John McCain. You have to beat him by contrasting with him.

I don't think Obama was the only Democrat who could beat a Republican. I think it was that Hillary was the only Democrat who couldn't.

I'm pretty sure that an empty suit would be able to beat McCain in November. Oh wait, he was in the same party and dropped out, I forgot.

Unfortunately, this. The elected delegates will probably break close to 50-50 on Obama/Clinton which means it's just up to the superdelegates. And the superdelegates have already made it pretty clear that they're for Hillary because, well, she's in the good-ole-boy network by virtue of her husband.

You think voters were disenfranchised in 2000? Just imagine what will happen to the Democratic Party if all of the people who voted for and donated to Obama were suddenly overridden by a few hundred people in a smoke-filled back room.

here's a few of my services for free.

- Polls show that the sky is up, the ground is down... unless you are doing a handstand, in that case invert it.
- Polls show that not eating will kill you, but eating too much is also bad for your health.

DEMOCRATS: Obama has the best chance of beating McCain.
REPUBLICANS: He's an empty suit with no experience and if he gets elected he'll probably be assassinated.
DEMOCRATS: Like we said, let's nominate Hillary!

Democrats seem to have this severe difficulty with the idea that the opposition may not be all that interested in helping them win.

WorldCitizen [TotalFark] 2008-02-08 11:13:19 PM
If Hillary cared about the country instead of power, she would consider stepping out of this race to give the Democrats a chance of winning the general election.

However, I have a feeling that the Clintons are so wrapped up in their own world that they won't even consider that she can't win.

I don't think Hillary has ever, for a moment, thought about conceding. I don't know if she actually has the ability to. Can you imagine what a Hillary concession speech would be? It's hard for me to see her doing it. She'll fight tooth and nail, destroying the party and Obama in the process.

Prospero424 [TotalFark] 2008-02-08 11:15:24 PM
Expect to hear this trumpeted as loudly as possible by Obama's campaign in the next few weeks. If they can make this a media meme, it could give Obama a massive boost over Hillary ad a very crucial time in the process.

Why people would still support Hillary over Obama even knowing that she's not as likely to beat the Republican candidate just boggles my mind. I mean, everything good about her (except her gender) is represented more honestly and more sincerely in Obama.

The woman just ooozes insincerity. It kinda freaks me out that she still has so much support just because she's a woman and she's powerful (and/or she's not black).

WorldCitizen [TotalFark] 2008-02-08 11:16:17 PM

Yeah, I imagine the Democrats will do this and totally lose the excitement of voters to get out and vote this year. And they will lose. If there is one thing I count on the Democrats for, it is doing their damnedest to lose elections.

I dunno about the whole "superdelegate" thing. It seems to me that these people act as a sort of electoral college for the primary process. That is, they will support whoever gets the majority of "regular" delegate counts.

Think about it. If Obama had the majority of regular delegates even by a single vote, but these people hand it to Hillary, there will be riots in parts of some major cities. It will irreparably damage the Democratic Party for the better part of a decade.

I ask myself: is the Democratic Party establishment this stupid; this eager to sabotage themselves just to get their "centrist" (read: corporate) candidate the nomination, even knowing she has a smaller chance of defeating the Republican than the alternative?

And I answer myself: I wouldn't put it past them . . . I wouldn't put it past them.

Turing_Machine [TotalFark] 2008-02-08 11:26:45 PM
Yeah. This is true, at least for me.

For me, if Obama runs, he has my vote. If it is Clinton, my vote goes to McCain.

So basically, you're the type of farker who sits around waiting for a music thread to come up so you can pop in and go, "You know that band you all like? They suck, and you suck for liking them, and if you say that I suck, it just means you suck."

Must be a fulfulling life you lead there.

Calvin Coolidge 2008-02-08 11:29:35 PM
You know, I was watching CNN's Super Tuesday coverage the other night and they had Ari Fleischer on there as a political "analyst." Why, I'm not entirely sure, but that's beside the point. My point is this: He came out and said quite plainly that Republicans hope and pray that Hillary is nominee. They know they can beat her, and they've already got the tools to do it from their conflicts with the Clintons from the 90s. I mean, shiat, why do you think all the right-wingers out there are always talking about beating Hillary like it's a foregone conclusion that she'll be the nominee? It's because they hope that if they say it enough, it'll be come true and they'll have their wish.

So if you want to help the Republicans win in '08, vote Hillary.

seabass242 2008-02-08 11:30:58 PM
They would both crush McCain badly. Especially the "super-ticket" of Clinton/Obama, which is looking more and more like a reality.

Bacontastesgood 2008-02-08 11:32:01 PM
Prospero424:

I have to believe they aren't that stupid. There will be some game-playing and deals made, but end of the day, if the votes are breaking even 55/45 Obama/Clinton, they will do the right thing and push the brother over the top.

Otherwise, we basically should just go straight to our recruiters, because eventually they will run out of body armor and Iodine pills* for the conscripts sent to Iran by President McCain.
