Oh God, I really hate laughing at that, but it was funny.

Queue the knee-jerk feminist Hillary voters to tell us we're all evil. We didn't get enough of that shiat yesterday.

They're just telling Hillary that more bribe money will be necessary to ensure their vote come nomination time.

That doesn't bode well for Hillary. Her current delegate lead hinges on super delegates.

RealClear Politics (new window) shows the delegate count at 1076 for Clinton and 1006 for Obama. But, when you remove the super delegates from the equation and just take the pledged delegates you come out with Clinton with 865 and Obama with 878 (a seven delegate advantage for Obama).

If Hillary cannot keep hold of her super delegates she is going to lose the nomination.

Why she has 70 more still baffles me. It just shows the Clintionian comradery as an Anti-democratic principle.

As I've said in a dozen other threads, the Clintons are massive fundraising machines. They won't sell her out until it's clear they can replace her. If Obama takes the presidency, he has a good shot at replacing them.

The DLC also has big sway, and you'll see some delegates stick with her no matter what. But if Obama loses the general, the Clintons fundraising power will be greatly diminished.

Not so much any more. Howard Dean has been spending the past four years building up the Democratic party across the nation. He has opened field offices in places that were once considered the reddest of the red states. He formed networks of activists that once had no organization, and got them all moving in a single direction.

The success of his strategy over the DLC strategy became evident in 2006 when only one major DLC candidate won nomination (Harold Ford Jr). And of all the wins that the Democrats were able to crow about, it was the DLC candidate that managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

As for the DLC money machine, it is not the Clintons that have been raising the most money, but Obama who is tapping into the Dean fund raising model. The subtext of the race between Obama and Hillary could be called the last stand of the DLC. Because if they cannot win the nomination for Hillary, and get rid of Howard Dean then they are going to quickly fall apart under the pressure of the new Democratic party that is forming around them.

One of the Superdelegates from Nebraska also switched from Hillary to Obama. But I'm sure there will be movement both ways until it's time for the final tally. What will be interesting will be the media coverage of each sides' losses/gains.

Indeed. The fact he revitalized so many state parties is amazing. It's pretty awesome. The party supports him instead of DLC insiders because the states get better fundraising and support. Less graft and less influence of big players, but that's not a bad thing to anyone except Terry McAuliffe.

Code_Archeologist: The subtext of the race between Obama and Hillary could be called the last stand of the DLC.

Yep. Which is a huge factor in my decision to support Obama. If Obama can win the nom, and Dean can keep the party moving at state and local levels, you might have a real Democratic party again. 5 years ago when I left the Republicans, the Democratic party in the area would not let me volunteer since I had helped out the Republican campaigns before. It was an insiders racket content to lose year after year.

If that can change, I'll be damned happy.

Hillary may lose the nomination if she loses the super delegates, but if the super delegates ignore the will of the people in the party and vote Hillary when Obama has the voted delegate support then the party is very likely going to lose the next election, and alienate their young voters for some time to come. It could take the party decades to recover from that kind of damage.

Hell, if Obama doesn't get the nomination he could probably form a viable third party all on his own.

When that happens the remaining amount of irony left in the universe will be expended at once,

Hillary - put forward a constitutional amendment in 2001 to eliminate the electoral college, because it could possibly thwart the will of the people.

I can hear it now, "Selected, not elected, selected, not elected"

The problem there is that both Murray and Cantwell are D.C. insiders. Maria especially, given that whole mess with the call on her Real Networks stock and her resulting sell-out to cover her campaign loans.

Gregoire needs to remain as progressive and centralist as she can in order to woo moderates and independents in the next election with Rossi. You know it'll be brutal. I think that is one reason why she put her weight (and Superdelegate vote) behind Obama.
