That catch is a bright spot in my increasingly crappy day. First time I smiled in about 3 hours.

"Wait? He's GAY?!" Fred Phelps told the Washington post. He continued, "But I love 'We Will Rock You'!".

Yes, well, Brian was much too busy being the reincarnation of a Baroque composer and pondering the properties of quasars to notice.

The guitarist wasn't flamboyant or meterosexual or moustachioed? Them's some slanderous words there, Betty.

Metrosexual? I remember seeing and interview once with someone who said he witnessed a parade of young men in sailor suits going into Mercury's dressing room and he said "That man was gay to level I'd never reach."

Elton John said that.

That said probably one of the greatest perfomers evar. Seeing him at Live Aid one of the great moments in rock history.

I remember him telling me that when I was cinching up his leather pants.

SweetSilverBlues 2008-02-08 04:44:22 PM
Not news.

It was realized in the 1980s that Freddie Mercury was gay and the rest of the band just ignored it. With all the flack Elton John was getting, Freddie was terrified of the papparazi.

Brian May's mustache has been gone for some time, unless he grew it back within the last few months, which he should never have done.

iquixotic 2008-02-08 04:44:26 PM
Freddie Mercury was the lead singer of an enormously popular rock band in the 70s and 80s. He was farking men, women, animals, inanimate objects; everything was fair game.

Did anyone else find it hilarious at the time that Brian May's biggest solo song just after Freddie took his six-foot-snooze was called "Too Much Love Will Kill You"?

/Love = unprotected buttsecks with randoms

heavymetal [TotalFark] 2008-02-08 04:45:42 PM
Well despite dressing like a gay biker, Judas Priest fans did not acknowledge that he was gay until Rob Halford announced it himself. Rob Halford said when he started dressing that way figuring he would get called out on it, instead metal fans started dressing like gay bikers. Thus the leather, chains, spikes, and studds look of heavy metal was born.

/ Judas Priest, greatest band evar!

SweetSilverBlues 2008-02-08 04:46:30 PM
That's what I get for trying to multitask and post. Please completely ignore the second sentence of my previous post as it's totally stupid.

Freddie grew the mustache because of a mandibular deformation. He looked into surgery to fix it, but was told it could change his singing voice, so he ixnay'ed that idea.

And of course, ALL flamboyant music stars of the 1970s HAD to be gay, like all of Kiss, the Rolling Stones, etc.

That is a good point. Maybe someone should raise it to Brian, I doubt he ever thought of that.

tgregory 2008-02-08 04:47:26 PM
well...

"When I shared a room with him on tour in the early days I can assure you it was girls who generally stayed overnight."

so if he's banging away at girls...i think anyone would be hard pressed to think someone was gay. it's only recently that we point people out for being "metro" and label them as gay and call them 'deniers' if they still date girls.

Frank Zappa once said he thought Brian May was the best rock guitarist around (Hendrix was dead at the time.) Brian May is quite the awesome player.

To be fair, Queen always sounded a lot better when I was on acid...Queen II was meant for tripping

Plus that sound he got with the stereo, top boost, dimed AC 30 is pretty recognizable. I think he's a great musician. There's a lot more to music than virtuosity.
