Subby's headline: Governor says he doesn't know how testing of older drivers would help safety, but he does know how it will help him win votes

Actual headline: Governor calls for tests of elderly drivers: Doesn't yet know at what age or what to test for

Did you even read the article, submitter? There's a difference between not knowing if elderly road tests would help versus not knowing how to conduct those tests.

"Hmm. I'd really like to end my political career, but I'm just not interested in blowing some dude in a bathroom stall. I know! I'll take on the one constituency that votes in overwhelming numbers!"

He may as well call for the outlawing of Matlock reruns and a ban on ribbon candy.

Can't we re-test all drivers frequently? There's no shortage of blame to spread around for piss-poor driving from young and old people alike.

Old driver: creating a hazard by driving 10 under the limit
Young driver: creating a hazard by weaving around old driver and believing he/she has some got-damn 'right' to go 10 over the limit

//oh, right, the broads doing their makeup in traffic!

As much as I think too old drivers can be dangerous, I think too young drivers are even worse.

/DL at 18.
//yearly testing at 65

Vision is only half of it. Reflexes dull with age. Strength. Attention span. How do you test this? You make them drive. Something demanding, not just the "around the block and parallel park" test that is usually given.

Ageism bothering you? Then give it to everyone at intervals. Might weed out some of the other asshats on the road, if you design the test properly.

I have a simpler solution:

1) Enforce driving laws

2) If you cause an accident that causes any injury by breaking a traffic law: You lose your license (no work exemptions, et al) until you pass the driving tests (written and road) again.

Makes sense. Therefore, it will never happen.

Yeah, but there's the extra cost of hiring more DMV people to administer those tests. Can't be wasting money on social programs.

Massachusetts RMV has all sorts of specialty plates for various causes. I'd gladly buy a Save the Farmer's Markets plate and ahve the funds go towards the geriatric driver's testing initiative.

dl will never be moved to 18. it would cause too much strain on parents having to taxi kids, for an additional 2 years, to the sporting events, the hangouts and jamies 17 year old cheerleader sumber parties, complete with pillowfights and makeout practice.

I do agree with constant testing.. for everyone, not just the elderly so they feel like they're being singled out. I've seen some pretty farked up shiat when it comes to old people driving.. a good percentage of them need to get off the road and into the ground.

Ah, yes. Dangerous too young drivers allowed for the convenience of parents.

I did already know that, but I really don't give a shiat about anyones convenience. Want convenience? Don't have kids.

They have to pay for the tests again, and I wouldn't hire anyone extra. Make the motherf**kers wait.
