Granny Barak is adorable.

/everybody needs a pet chicken. srsly.

It's just crazy. This little old lady from Kenya probably had no idea when Obama was born that he was ever going to be this close to becoming the President of the United States. It's amazing.

I wonder what all her neighbors think.

I hope she flies over if he wins, those will be some great pictures.

Yep, and she'll be even prouder when he beats the she-beast who is not to be named.

At least he doesn't have embarassing relatives like Billy Carter, Roger Clinton and Neil Bush.

My god we may actually pull off electing this guy. I'm dying to see how the rest of the world will react to this. The most powerfull and dangerous nation in the world electing A half black half white guy from a Muslim father with a name that is disturbingly close to that nations two biggest enemies in the last 15 years, young and a nerd. How will Brittain see that? How will japan react? Hell what will the entire continent of Africa's reaction be?

Confusion?
Pity?
Awe?

This is gonna be interesting.

/Granny looks like a hoot, I wanna see her walk up to McCain and give him a hug.

PirateKing 2008-02-08 12:13:18 PM
What I find amusing is that even before the elections were over, TMZ had a photographer in Kenya, stalking Obama's Granny.

Hideously Gigantic Smurf 2008-02-08 12:16:30 PM
So his Grandma's holding a chicken. Big deal.

I'll bet your Grandma held you when you were a baby, and frankly the chicken's prettier!

Barack Obama is black?

DAMMIT! And I was going to vote for him!

She looks like an awesome person. I spent some time in Kenya in college and I met a lot of down-to-earth, good-humoured people and their pet chickens. You couldn't ask a culture to produce better grandmothers.

I expect he seems less unusual to the rest of the world than too America.

Too bad she didn't produce a better son/father for Barack. His dad was a douche supreme. He turned out quite well, due to his mom and her family, though.

I came in to say, THIS.

And yes, pet chickens do rock. I had 4 of them as a kid, and they were the funniest creatures.

Reminds me of what Bush 2 said after visiting the (then) Chancellor of Germany, Gerhardt Schroder: 'You know, I'm sitting there with Schröder one day with Colin and Condi. And I'm thinking: What's Schröder thinking?! He's sitting here with two blacks and one's a woman.'

Does cock-fighting count?

Pet chickens are great, but I would vote that that particular chicken was a little dead. And stuffed.

She does look like a fun lady. I like the dress.

But that chicken really does not look all that thrilled with Obama's success. Perhaps Obama's campaign team could find a more upbeat chicken.

There is a black people/fried chicken joke here somewhere.

She's actually his step-grandmother, so no fair blaiming her.

ZachF81: There is a black people/fried chicken joke here somewhere.

When I first saw the picture yesterday, my first thought was, "Lordy, Lordy! We havin' sum chicken and biscuits tonight, sho' nuf!"

And then I crawled across broken glass as punishment for having such thoughts.

Running a-puck 2008-02-08 01:45:12 PM
Well Obama just lost my vote. No way in hell I will vote for someone who has a grandmother with a pet chicken.

When I was growing up it was my job to take care of the chickens. I try to eat chicken at least 5 times a week. Oh how I hate them... with their wee beady eyes... Chickens are proof that we do not have a kind and compassionate god. How many other animals that you know of will lay an egg, turn around as though they were surprised, then peck at the egg until the shell breaks and eat it.

Damn him, damn him that... that... CHICKEN LOVER

Thank you, Jedi Liz. I have actually never seen the guy's grandmother, and he gives her much credit for raising him (with his late mother, of course).

brantgoose 2008-02-08 10:13:24 PM
His other grandma was a bank vice-president, married to a salesman.

Well, every family has its skeletons in the closet.

brantgoose 2008-02-08 10:22:49 PM
A farmer's wife wakes up in the night screaming. It's sometime about 1960 and it's in Kenya. "What's the matter my little honey pot?" "I dreamed it was 2008 and my grandson was running for President of the United States against a Mormon and woman."

Silence. And then her husband asks: "What's a Mormon?"
