Dude, congrats!!!

Juno Award = A award that actually means something other than an American Grammy

Congrats! So who are you and do you have any cat pictures?

dstanley 2008-02-06 01:11:53 PM
The only thing I know about a Juno is that Rush always wins one.

Many congrats, Subby!!

But I see Doug and the Slugs were shut out, so I won't be watching...

Alternative Album category looks interesting. There is actually a group named Holy fark.

Perhaps if Doug Bennett was more.....y'know...."alive"? That might put them back on the nominee's list.

:)

Well, looking at the five nominees, two are black guys, and one is a girl--a girl who is not fat and who looks like she might be hot. Given that it's a Farker we're talking about, statistically speaking, it's unlikely to be any of those. The other two nominees are a five-member band, and a white dude. If I had to guess, I'd put my money on Subby being one of those people.

Congrats. You must have had some decent sales or airplay if you were even nominated.

He's Dead?

Until the Jitters reform or Belinda Metz puts out a new album I'm not watching.

/Russell Peters is hosting though

Oh my god I went through the EXACT same thought process when I was looking at the list.

In 2004. A real shame. He packed a pretty punch. (*pow pow*)

...or Belinda Metz puts out a new album

Oh, the Belinda Metz stories I could tell. But won't.

Maybe, but I bet that wouldn't stop them from winning a Grammy...not if Jethro Tull can be a metal band...

But if "being dead" disqualifies poor Doug, how about April Wine? How come THEY got the high hat?

zooter: But if "being dead" disqualifies poor Doug, how about April Wine? How come THEY got the high hat?

Myles Goodwyn is still alive and well and living in Quebec might have something to do with it?

(funny how a thread about the 2008 Junos has had so much dinosaur music being discussed! I'm waiting for Goddo and Doucet to make their appearances!)

Bill_Wick's_Friend 2008-02-06 02:40:58 PM
I don't actually see April Wine on the Juno site anywhere...

But TRIUMPH is getting inducted into the Canadian Rock Hall o' Fame.

If there was a "highest voice in Canadian music" award they'd win that too. Try singing along to the last chorus of "Somebody's Out There". Every dog in your neighbourhood will start howling.

Hmm, higher than Jim Cuddy?

Hell, yeah!

I can sing along when "Try" comes on the radio. Even the falsetto parts.

"Lay It On the Line"? No way.

You have to at least give me a hint. How much dirt could there be? It's not like she's Luba or Mitsou. Up until today I thought I was the only one who remembered her.

But I hate Tom Hanks. Thanks! My lips are sealed, especially since you might know my boss and I Fark from work.

I think I'm going to listen to some Spoons tonight. Maybe a little Mona with the Children as well.

Man, I was just talking to a Canadian pal this morning and he says that Dion was guaranteed at least four Juno nods every year. I scoffed. Looks like he was right and I owe him a sixpack.

That's a farking shame. Snakes and Arrows should be nominated just for being an amazing record.

Hell, their instrumental Malignant Narcissism got nominated for a Grammy. Too bad it won't win it.

shadowself - care to share the chords? Payola$ tabs are awfully hard to come by on the interwebs.

Subby is most honoured to have been greenlit! More surprised than the nomination, even...

I'm the tabla player in Autorickshaw (new window), and many thanks for the congrats.

40below: Congrats. You must have had some decent sales or airplay if you were even nominated.

Lol...the world music category isn't based on sales or airplay...there's a jury of industry folks.

Complete Crap.

Celine Dion is nominated for 2 albums...Great.

Almost as bad as Diana Krall getting nominated for an album of Christmas songs.

The problem with the Junos is that they are chosen by radio people, not industry people who actually know about some good bands. It's basically a radio station owner looking over the nominee list going "oh yeah, nickleback...we play them...Who are Wintersleep?"

I am happy for Feist, even though she wouldn't be anywhere without that Apple commercial

madden101 2008-02-06 05:45:28 PM
Pretty exciting stuff, congrats subby!

Just out of curiosity, what are the rules for being nominated? Most of the artists I recognized I know are Canadian (Avril Lavigne, Neil Young, Thousand Foot Krutch, etc.). But what about Relient K? I could've sworn they're 100% American.

hitmanric 2008-02-06 05:48:50 PM
Congrats subby!! As long as you're not running against Wintersleep then all the luck to ya.

/ ohhhh have you seen my ghost?

OMG---Saw Prism open for Meat Loaf in 1978. Hadn't thought about that for years. Thanks for shaking the cobwebs out!

Not familiar with their stuff, but everything has to have some sort of Canadian connection (citizenship, production, writing etc) to be eligible, except the international category, where Bon Jovi is up this year. It looks like Matt Thiessen (lead vocals) was born in Canada. Wiki says so, anyway...

Full nominees here (new window)

and then:

Vineet is friend, and a blistering tabla player, but I ain't him!
