Thanks for that.

The improved one liners are pretty witty. When Paul said to Art "I thought I told you to wait in the car" I LOLed.

It's likely I was watching that night, yet have zero recollection. That was good fun.

"So this is what Dawn does, is it?"

Very accurate headline.

Didn't see that as I wasn't living in the states at the time, but I remember reading about it in the New Musical Express...there was all sorts of controversy about how Lennon debased the show by not treating it with the respect it deserved.

I'm dead serious.

Perfect op for Paul McCartney to run up on stage...oh well.

Seems so weird that Lennon would actually do the Grammys.

Watched Imagine the movie lately... miss that guy. He was quirky for sure...but seeing him talk to that fan hanging outside his studio was shocking on a few levels

Olivia Newton-John beat Joni Mitchell?

Well he makes it pretty clear that he hates every moment of it. Money must've been too good.

/Elton should've won that one.

that's great.

you really think he hates it? to me it just looks like he's being funny.

"Which one of you is Ringo?"
"I thought I told you to wait in the car."

carmody: I wish celebrities would start smoking lots of pot again.

Most naive thing I've heard all day.

Yoko Ono was ugly back then too.

That was one of the first I watched on purpose, 12 years old and wanting Elton John to win everything cuz he was my hero.

Not so much anymore, but he IS playing a concert in backwoods Sudbury, Ontario

rendering him still kinda cool.

I would also like to know this.

My two favorite Grammy moments: Billy Joel's interrupted performance of "River Of Dreams," (in protest of the producers playing Sinatra off the stage earlier in the show,) and Lou Rawls interrupted performance of "You'll Never Find," (coughing fit. The band kept playing.)

This!

Lennon had a great sense of humor. What a loss.

Inigo_Montoya: Olivia Newton-John beat Joni Mitchell?

And even worse, beat Maria Muldaur.

Thanks subby - for proving that the Grammy's were just as boring back then as I'm sure they are today and confirming why I never watch them.

The Dawn joke was slightly amusing - the rest of it sucked.

dmax: "Where's Linda?...Oh. Too subtle."

I thought he said "You still listening?" to Art, in response to Art's "You still writing music?"

/thought that was a bit cruel, but damn funny!

Andy Williams' references to his ex-wife were a little creepy to listen to, considering what happened a year later: "He was showing me how the gun worked when I 'accidentally' shot him in the back from 7 feet away." (new window)

pipco 2008-02-07 12:44:35 PM
I ain't a fan of awards shows or anything like that, but John Lennon was just being an asshole. He didn't have to be such a dick to Andy Williams. Textbook example of too cool for the room.
